Four Seasons Hotel Firenze pairs an 11-acre walled garden with a stay in central Florence. The property stretches between Palazzo della Gherardesca and Palazzo del Nero, with room for a ceremony overlooking Brunelleschi’s dome, cocktails among the statues and dinner beneath the vaulted ceiling of the Conventino Ballroom. Guests get the garden setting without the journey to a countryside estate, and can explore Florence between celebrations.

The Palazzo del Nero wedding arrangement combines event-space hire with a required hotel stay, rather than an exclusive villa rental. For 2027, event-space and garden hire starts at €20,000 plus 22% VAT per day, or €24,400 including VAT. Reception and four-course dinner with selected wines start at €285 per person, plus 10% VAT and a separate 10% service charge. This arrangement requires 14 rooms above the ballroom, generally for two nights during the week or three at weekends. The rooms, additional drinks and wedding production are separate from the venue hire.

Early-2027 availability: Palazzo del Nero is scheduled to be unavailable through March 31, 2027, during enhancement works, while other hotel facilities remain open. The ballroom and required rooms are in that building, so weddings during this period need an alternative arrangement with the hotel. For later dates, the availability of the specific wedding spaces still needs a booking commitment; the scheduled end of the works is not a guaranteed reopening date.

Four Seasons Firenze makes the most sense for couples who want their wedding to feel unmistakably Florentine, but do not want to organize a remote estate stay around every guest.

The garden is the first reason to choose it. This is not a courtyard attached to a hotel: the neoclassical temple, the lawn with a view of the Duomo and the more enclosed Statue Garden give the day distinct settings and a natural progression, without a drive between ceremony and reception.

The second reason is the ballroom. The Conventino is a deconsecrated church, with height, an apse and architectural presence that a conventional hotel function room rarely has. Holding dinner here from the outset makes the contrast between the gardens and the vaulted interior part of the day, rather than treating the room only as a rain backup.

Our preferred size is 80–120 guests. At that scale, the celebration can feel substantial without pushing the indoor dinner toward its limit. The hotel’s own 100–110-person recommendation is particularly useful because it accounts for dining and dancing together, rather than counting chairs alone.

The main drawback is how the bill is assembled. The €24,400 starting hire, including VAT, is only the event-space line. The mandatory bedrooms, food, open bar, flowers and any restaurant or bar closures are separate. Hotel catering and coordination simplify parts of the planning, but they do not turn the booking into a bundled wedding weekend.

Privacy is also different from a private villa. The wedding takes place in reserved spaces within an operating hotel. Couples who want private breakfasts, poolside gatherings and evening drinks throughout the stay will need a broader agreement than event-space hire and a room block.

We would be more cautious with 150–200 guests, an outdoor-only vision or a party built around loud music well after 1 a.m. The lawns can accommodate a larger dinner, but the Conventino cannot take that full guest list indoors. At the other end of the scale, a very small wedding still carries the fixed hire and room commitment of this del Nero arrangement. For a much smaller group, it is worth discussing a different hotel-event format rather than assuming these costs fall with the headcount.

The reason to choose Four Seasons is the combination: a garden wedding, an indoor room worth choosing in its own right and a city that gives guests plenty to do on their own.

The 2027 event hire

For the Palazzo del Nero arrangement, 2027 event-space and garden hire starts at €20,000 plus 22% VAT per day, or €24,400 including VAT. Accommodation is separate.

The hire covers the event spaces agreed for the day, not the entire hotel stay. Closing Palazzo del Nero’s restaurants or bars costs extra, and additional event services may carry further charges. A welcome dinner or farewell party also needs its own space and food-and-beverage arrangements, even when guests are staying for several nights.

Reception, dinner, VAT and service

The starting food-and-beverage arrangement is €285 per person for the reception and a four-course wedding dinner with preselected wines. Add 10% VAT and a 10% service charge. Open bar, late-night snacks, Champagne and a dessert buffet are separate additions.

For planning, applying the service charge to the €285 base and then adding VAT gives €285 × 1.10 × 1.10 = €344.85 per person. This is a RoamRecs calculation, not a quoted menu total: the final payable amount depends on how the hotel applies VAT to the service charge.

At the starting hire and menu, the event-space-plus-reception-and-dinner subtotal is:

The compulsory room block

The booking requires 14 rooms above the main ballroom in Palazzo del Nero. The minimum stay is normally two nights during the week and three nights at weekends. That means 28 or 42 room-nights, respectively. Prices vary with the dates and mix of rooms and suites.

The room block can be one of the largest parts of the commitment. These hypothetical rates show how much the average room price changes the total:

These are illustrative inputs, not Four Seasons room rates. At the €1,500 average, one additional night across the block adds €21,000. The mix of rooms and suites can change that average substantially.

Guests may pay for their own rooms, or the couple may host them. That changes who funds the stay, not the fact that the rooms are part of the booking requirement. The agreement should identify who guarantees unoccupied rooms and when reservations become nonrefundable.

What is additional?

Beyond the hire, menu and rooms, the main additions are bar service, food upgrades, cake or dessert arrangements, flowers, photography and video, planning, furniture and tabletop upgrades, lighting, sound, entertainment and transport. Flowers, audiovisual production and live entertainment are specifically outside the starting event hire.

Restaurant and bar closure fees pay for privacy, not for guests’ meals and drinks. They should be priced separately, alongside any extra event days or separately reserved backup rooms.

The selected wines cover a different part of the evening from an open bar. Decide on bar hours, drinks and package-versus-consumption charging alongside the menu, with separate provision for a wedding cake, Champagne toast or late-night food where required.

This example assumes a three-night weekend in 2027 after the planned works, with 100 wedding guests and 28 adults in the required 14-room block at an illustrative average of €1,500 per room per night, including room VAT. It covers one wedding day, food and drink for 100 at both a welcome meal and farewell meal, professional suppliers and local guest transport. It uses the starting hire and menu, applies no seasonal discount and assumes an approved indoor plan avoids a substantial marquee build.

Supplier allowances include anticipated taxes and service costs; no second blanket layer of VAT is added. The welcome-and-farewell line is for food and drink only, not two additional days of private venue hire.

Rounded, the example is about €205,000–€290,000, including the illustrative room block and city tax. Only the required 14 rooms are included, not accommodation for the entire wedding. The €1,500 average remains a model input, not a hotel rate.

Excluded are any increase above the starting event hire, restaurant and bar privatization, extra venue-hire days, separately charged backup spaces, a marquee or substantial weather infrastructure, and accommodation beyond the 14 rooms. Guest flights, attire, rings, honeymoon expenses and off-site legal or religious ceremony charges are also excluded. Any required venue supplement must be added to the total rather than treated as covered by contingency.

What changes the number most?

The room allocation, event-space scope and production design matter more than small adjustments to stationery or transport. An extra €500 in the average room rate adds €21,000 across a three-night, 14-room block. By comparison, reducing the dinner count from 100 to 80 saves €6,897 on the modeled reception-and-dinner line, with further potential savings in drinks and décor.

The ballroom also rewards restraint. Its architecture provides much of the atmosphere, so we would let the room remain visible rather than cover it with an installation. Large suspended florals, elaborate staging or a garden structure can move the wedding beyond this model.

Match the rentals budget to the hotel’s included furniture and equipment. The allowance should cover what is genuinely additional, not charge again for tables, chairs, linen or service equipment already in the agreed package.

Dinner capacity depends on the layout

100–110 guests is the hotel’s recommended scale for comfortable dinner and dancing without a room turnaround. 140 guests is the Conventino Ballroom’s round-table dinner capacity. 200 guests is the outdoor dinner capacity for Tempio Lawn and Duomo View Lawn in the 2027 wedding offering. They are not interchangeable descriptions of one wedding setup.

The terrace, Gherardesca rooms and small chapel are separate options to discuss alongside the principal garden-and-ballroom arrangement; they are not automatically included in the del Nero hire.

The Conventino Ballroom

The appeal of this room is its height and proportions, not just its decorative finish. The apse creates a natural focal point, while the former organ balcony offers a possible position for audiovisual equipment or musicians within an approved design. It is worth considering how speeches, the couple’s table and entertainment relate to those architectural features.

The practical choice is whether dinner and dancing share the room from the start. Around the recommended 100–110 guests, that is the intended comfortable arrangement. At 140, dinner may fit while a generous dance floor, band and bar require a different sequence. Round tables, long tables and entertainment setups use the room differently, so the final layout matters more than recreating a photograph.

How we would use the gardens

For around 100 guests, our first choice would be a symbolic ceremony on Duomo View Lawn or at the temple, cocktails in the Statue Garden and dinner in the Conventino. It uses the garden without making the whole evening dependent on it.

A garden dinner is also attractive, particularly for couples who prefer a less enclosed setting. Tempio and Duomo View Lawn both support the larger outdoor format, provided the guest list also has a workable covered alternative.

The Conventino Ballroom is the principal indoor dinner solution, with up to 140 places at round tables. For a wedding of approximately 100–110, its ability to accommodate dinner and dancing without a turnaround is one of the venue’s strongest practical features.

The remaining wet-weather question is where the ceremony and drinks take place while dinner is already set. A separate ceremony room and covered aperitivo space allow the day to keep its pace; reusing the ballroom means allowing time, and somewhere for guests to go, while the room changes over.

There are other indoor event spaces within the hotel, but they are not all beside the Conventino. The Gherardesca lobby, for example, belongs to the other side of the property. Using it would mean a separate reservation and a planned guest route, not simply stepping into the ballroom foyer.

For an indoor-first reception, we would keep the ballroom ready for dinner and allocate separate rooms for the ceremony and aperitivo. For a garden-first reception, the full indoor dinner alternative should be reserved with the outdoor space. The ceremony and cocktail rooms need to be reserved for your full guest count, along with the dinner space.

Above 140 guests, an outdoor dinner no longer has an equivalent single-room indoor fallback in the Conventino. A larger wedding needs a separately approved covered solution and a budget for it. A marquee would require hotel approval and a quote; its permission is not established by the size of the lawns.

Around 100 guests, the ballroom gives the celebration a strong indoor foundation. At 180 or 200, the covered reception becomes a separate planning and spending decision. That is the most practical reason to stay near the hotel’s recommended dinner-and-dancing range.

Staying at Four Seasons

The accommodation inventory for the 2027 arrangement is 120 rooms and suites: 85 in Palazzo della Gherardesca and 35 in Palazzo del Nero. The required wedding block is much smaller, comprising 14 specific rooms above the ballroom in Palazzo del Nero. The rest of either building remains outside that reservation.

The hotel stay is a meaningful part of the appeal. Historic suites, gardens, spa facilities and the pool give the resident group somewhere to spend time without a formal itinerary. Room types vary substantially, and connecting configurations are available for some families. Allocation should follow the actual rooming list rather than the assumption that every room sleeps the same number of people.

There is no single confirmed sleeping capacity for a wedding group. Room categories, children, extra beds, twins and connecting arrangements affect occupancy, and the allocation depends on the rooms available for the dates. Build the rooming list from those specific rooms rather than doubling the hotel-wide room count.

At an illustrative two adults per room, the mandatory block houses 28 people. A 100-guest wedding would then have 72 guests needing additional rooms, either elsewhere in Four Seasons or at other Florence hotels. Housing all 100 in double occupancy would require approximately 50 rooms, 36 beyond the compulsory block. These are room-planning calculations, not confirmed bed allocations.

We would allocate rooms to the couple, immediate family and wedding party first, bearing in mind that the compulsory block sits above the late-evening reception. That location is useful for the wedding party, but worth discussing with light sleepers.

Arrival, families and accessibility

Standard hotel check-in is 3 p.m. and checkout is noon. For a morning start to hair, makeup or changing, include the previous night in the couple’s booking rather than relying on early check-in.

For guests with limited mobility, choose bedrooms and event routes together. The distance between the two buildings, step-free garden access and assistance during rain can matter as much as the room itself. Those arrangements need a route-specific review with the hotel.

Nearby guest hotels

Florence allows the nonresident group to enjoy a proper city break rather than wait for the next estate shuttle. We would begin with a small number of walkable hotel options around Borgo Pinti and San Marco, then provide cars for those who need them.

• Palazzo Monnalisa, Borgo Pinti 27: A historic four-star alternative on the same street as the main Four Seasons entrance. Useful for guests who want a traditional Florentine setting without committing to the wedding hotel.
• Hotel Orto de’ Medici, Via San Gallo 30: A historic hotel with a garden near San Marco, well placed for combining the wedding with sightseeing. A sensible second accommodation hub rather than another remote resort.
• The Hoxton, Florence, Via delle Mantellate 2: A more contemporary option with 158 rooms and a separate three-bedroom house. Worth considering for a larger, concentrated group allocation.

Allow roughly 10–15 minutes from Palazzo Monnalisa, 15–25 minutes from Orto de’ Medici and 20–30 minutes from The Hoxton to the main Borgo Pinti entrance. These are walking estimates; the agreed del Nero event entrance and guests’ mobility may change the best route.

For the evening, offer an arranged return option for guests in formal shoes, older relatives and anyone staying farther away. A central location reduces the need for coaches; it does not mean every guest should be expected to walk home at 1 a.m.

Hotel-led food and drink

The wedding is built around the hotel’s reception and dinner service. The events team can help develop the menu, and the pastry team can create a wedding cake, priced or agreed separately from the €285 starting menu. This allows the meal, room and running order to be planned together rather than as separate catering and venue arrangements.

We would spend the tasting discussion on the things guests experience directly: what is served during the reception, how long dinner takes, the wine selection and whether the late-night food suits the party. For a mixed international guest list, dietary requirements, children’s meals and vendor meals should be priced with the menu, not discovered in the final headcount.

This is most naturally a hotel-catered wedding. A nonnegotiable outside chef, specialist kitchen or external bar team should be made a condition of the booking, since acceptance of those arrangements is not established. Creative vendors can then develop the design around the hotel’s agreed access and operating rules.

Hotel coordination and an independent planner

Four Seasons offers wedding-planning assistance and can help arrange flowers, photography, entertainment and other services.

For a multi-event destination wedding, we would still budget for an independent planner representing the couple across the whole weekend. Their role should cover the overall budget, non-hotel suppliers, off-site gatherings, guest transport and last-minute changes, complementing the hotel team’s responsibilities. This is a RoamRecs recommendation, not a compulsory hire in the arrangement described here.

Music until 1 a.m., with a maximum of 85 decibels

Music is permitted until 1 a.m. at a maximum of 85 decibels, conditional on booking the 14 rooms above the ballroom. The approved music locations and outdoor cutoff still need to be agreed; the 1 a.m. permission is not a blanket allowance for an outdoor party.

The simplest way to make the most of that finish is to protect dancing time. A long dinner ending around midnight leaves very little party. We would aim to have dancing underway well before 11 p.m., with cake cutting and the first dance timed accordingly. Final guest departure is a separate arrangement; a later afterparty is not part of the established music permission.

Symbolic ceremony in the gardens

A symbolic ceremony is the most straightforward way to make the setting part of the wedding. Tempio Lawn gives the aisle an architectural endpoint; Duomo View Lawn places Florence itself behind the ceremony. Both are identified as ceremony settings in the wedding offering.

Our preference would be a ceremony layout that leaves the view visible and does not overwhelm it with a second large structure. The choice between the two settings is as much about the scale and style of the ceremony as about the photograph.

Legally binding civil marriage

For a legally binding marriage, a municipal ceremony at an authorized setting such as Palazzo Vecchio can be followed by the celebration at Four Seasons. An on-site legal ceremony would require specific municipal authorization for the hotel space; a garden event reservation does not provide that authorization.

Under the municipal arrangements checked in September 2026, the standard Sala Rossa fee for foreign couples who are not resident in Italy is €2,500, subject to the applicable booking category and calendar. Municipal Saturday marriages are reserved for Florence residents or people registered with Florence’s overseas-resident register. A weekday legal ceremony followed by a Saturday hotel celebration may therefore be the practical format. Documentation, interpretation and the required appointments depend on the couple’s circumstances.

Municipal fees and appointments are separate from the hotel booking and follow the rules in force for the ceremony date.

Religious ceremony

The Conventino is a deconsecrated church used as an event room, rather than a consecrated Catholic ceremony venue. The hotel’s separate small chapel has a maximum occupancy of four and cannot accommodate the full wedding.

Couples planning a Catholic wedding should arrange the church and religious permissions separately, with the reception returning to Four Seasons. That can be a beautiful Florence itinerary, but it adds a distinct ceremony location, timetable and transport movement.

Four Seasons Firenze is at Borgo Pinti 99, within Florence rather than in the surrounding hills. The practical advantage is that guests can arrive by air or rail, spend the weekend without renting a car and fit sightseeing around the wedding. The hotel can arrange charged airport and station transfers.

• Bologna Airport, BLQ: road-transfer allowance to the hotel: Approximately 90–120 minutes.

Florence Airport is the simplest arrival point for many guests. The T2 tram links the airport with the city and continues to San Marco–Università, providing an alternative to a private transfer. It does not deliver guests to the hotel door. For passengers with substantial luggage, wedding clothing or mobility needs, a direct car is generally the easier final journey.

For rail arrivals, use the station shown on the ticket and arrange the final transfer from there. Send guests and drivers the exact wedding entrance, which may differ from the main Borgo Pinti entrance because the hotel occupies two buildings.

We would provide grouped local transport for the church or welcome dinner when needed, plus an earlier and final return option after the wedding. There is less reason to run coaches all weekend if guests stay centrally, but vehicle access, loading points and room-block locations should still be coordinated before choosing the vehicle size.

Our first choice would be late May, June or September, with the reception designed to work indoors as well as outdoors. The garden is a large part of the attraction, but the Conventino makes an indoor-first wedding a real choice rather than a concession.

July and August call for shade, water and a later ceremony. September still needs a rain plan, while October’s wetter average favors a reception that works comfortably indoors. These long-term figures describe seasonal conditions, not the weather on a particular wedding day.

April and October are worth considering for an indoor-first celebration with some time in the gardens. They do not automatically bring a lower event bill: the 2027 starting hire has no month-by-month discount schedule, and room rates vary with demand.

The three-night weekend room commitment lends itself to Friday arrival, a Saturday wedding, Sunday time together and Monday departure. The stay provides the time for that itinerary; each additional gathering still has its own event arrangements.

Friday works best as a relatively relaxed welcome evening. A restaurant gathering in Florence gives guests a different setting while leaving the hotel garden and ballroom for the main event. A separately arranged Four Seasons welcome dinner is another option for keeping the resident group together.

Villa La Massa: a riverside retreat outside the city

It is a useful alternative when the hotel stay and riverside setting matter more than guests being able to explore the city on foot. Its private-event offering includes garden and indoor settings.

The tradeoff is transportation. Four Seasons is particularly persuasive for guests who want an independent city break; Villa La Massa leans more toward a shared retreat with trips into Florence.
