Castiglion del Bosco Wedding Guide (2027): Pricing & Capacity

Castiglion del Bosco is a 5,000-acre Rosewood estate in the Val d’Orcia near Montalcino, with 42 suites, 11 private villas, a medieval borgo, castle ruins, a historic church, a Brunello winery and a private golf club. For weddings of 130 guests or more, the current 2027 proposal requires a full resort buyout. Across the six quoted three-night dates, the contractual minimum starts at approximately €699,210 and reaches €1,293,210 including the stated VAT and the mandatory daily revenue commitments, before florals, entertainment, production, rentals, photography, planning and every other wedding cost.

The upside is unusual even at the top of the Tuscany market. A full buyout gives you 90 rooms and beds for up to 178 guests, enough to keep almost an entire large wedding on the estate. The harder issue is weather. Castiglion del Bosco can host groups of up to 250 at resort level, but its currently published individual wedding spaces top out at 200, and the largest indoor wedding structure, Il Granaio, is only confirmed on the property through 7 January 2027. For any of the quoted April to November 2027 dates, the large-wedding rain plan needs to be settled before booking.

Castiglion del Bosco belongs in a different category from most Tuscan villa wedding venues. You are not renting a villa and building catering, furniture, staff and accommodation around it. At the full-buyout level you are taking over a Rosewood resort with 42 suites, 11 serviced villas, two restaurants, spa facilities, pools, extensive gardens and an events operation already in place. The current buyout model sleeps up to 178 people, which is an enormous logistical advantage for a destination wedding.

That advantage comes at a serious price. For the 2027 dates currently quoted, the room and exclusive-use component alone ranges from €462,000 including VAT for three November nights to €1.056 million for three June nights. On top of that sits €237,210 of required food and beverage, spa and transportation revenue over a three-day stay. So the real starting point is not the €140,000 or €320,000 nightly rate. It is the €699,210 to €1,293,210 contractual commitment, before most of the visual and entertainment elements of the wedding are added.

That makes Castiglion del Bosco inefficient for a couple who simply wants a beautiful venue for one evening. It makes far more sense if you actually want the resort experience: multiple events, three nights with your guests, substantial use of the restaurants and bars, spa time, transfers, villas and the estate itself. The sweet spot is around 130 to 180 guests. At that size the mandatory full buyout makes operational sense and virtually everyone can stay on the property. Above 178 you need hotel overflow. 

The biggest unanswered question is the 2027 rain plan. Ristorante Campo del Drago currently accommodates 120 for a wedding reception. Il Granaio solves much of that problem when installed, with capacity for 200 banquet-style or 160 with dinner, dancing, bar and stage. But the current stated Il Granaio availability ends January 7th 2027, and none of the quoted 2027 full-buyout dates falls within that window. For a wedding spending €1 million or more, that is not a detail to deal with after signing. Get the exact wet-weather plan, with a floor plan and pricing, written into the proposal.

Castiglion del Bosco’s current 2027 pricing is built around a very different model for large weddings than most private Tuscan estates use.

2027 Full Resort Buyout Pricing

For 130 guests or more, a full resort buyout is required. The current proposal offers six three-night buyout windows in 2027. Each is priced per night and subject to 10% VAT.

Each line below gives the nightly rate before VAT, the same rate including 10% VAT, the three-night accommodation and exclusive-use cost, and the three-night contractual minimum once the mandatory daily revenue commitments are added.

• 15 to 18 April 2027: €190,000 per night, €209,000 including VAT, €627,000 for three nights, €864,210 three-night minimum
• 6 to 9 May 2027: €250,000 per night, €275,000 including VAT, €825,000 for three nights, €1,062,210 three-night minimum
• 17 to 20 June 2027: €320,000 per night, €352,000 including VAT, €1,056,000 for three nights, €1,293,210 three-night minimum
• 2 to 5 September 2027: €300,000 per night, €330,000 including VAT, €990,000 for three nights, €1,227,210 three-night minimum
• 14 to 17 October 2027: €260,000 per night, €286,000 including VAT, €858,000 for three nights, €1,095,210 three-night minimum

Those are exact calculations from the current quoted rates and taxes, not rounded planning figures.

The seasonal spread is enormous. Moving from the June dates to November reduces the three-night accommodation and exclusive-use component by €594,000 including VAT. Even April compared with June saves €429,000 on the buyout itself.

The Mandatory Daily Revenue Minimums

The buyout price is not the complete contractual minimum. For a full buyout, Castiglion del Bosco currently requires the following minimum revenue each day, for groups up to 250:

• Food and beverage: €60,000 plus 10% VAT per day, or €66,000 per day
• Spa: €3,500 plus 22% VAT per day, or €4,270 per day
• Transportation: €8,000 plus 10% VAT per day, or €8,800 per day
• Total: €79,070 per day, or €237,210 over three days

These are minimum-spend commitments rather than additional venue-rental charges. You receive food, beverage, spa and transportation services against the spend, but the minimum still needs to be built into the wedding budget from the beginning.

For context, €198,000 of the three-day minimum is food and beverage. For a large wedding weekend with welcome drinks, breakfasts, wedding dinner, bars and a farewell event, that money can be put to considerable use. It is nevertheless a contractual floor.

What the Full Buyout Includes

The current full-buyout proposal includes exclusive use of the principal Borgo hotel facilities from 4 p.m. on arrival day until 10 a.m. on departure day.

The accommodation includes all 42 suites, all 11 villas, 90 rooms in total, and up to 178 guests in existing beds.

• Suite guests receive breakfast for two at Campo del Drago, Wi-Fi and in-room coffee facilities
• The villas include breakfast for the villa’s occupants, a basic Tuscan grocery pantry on arrival, private swimming pools, Wi-Fi, daily cleaning and departure cleaning
• Guests have access to the sauna and steam bath subject to reservation, the fitness center, the infinity pool, selected children’s activities, bocce and tennis
• The resort’s current buyout information also includes exclusive use of the Spa, two restaurants, infinity pools, historic borgo and gardens

What Is Not Included in the Buyout

Two estate features need to be understood separately: the winery and private golf course are not included in the exclusive buyout under the current proposal. They are part of Castiglion del Bosco and can form part of the guest experience, but the wedding buyout does not give the couple exclusive control of them.

Wedding production is also additional. Depending on the final plan, budget separately for florals and event design, furniture and specialty rentals, the wedding planner, entertainment, photography and cinematography, audio, sound and additional lighting, staging, additional electrical power or generators, labor and logistics, marquees or temporary structures, stationery and signage, specialty entertainment, guest activities beyond what is included, hair and makeup, ceremony costs, and any specialist transportation above the required minimum.

Il Granaio Pricing

Il Granaio matters because it is the estate’s largest published indoor wedding space. The current wedding materials price it at:

• Rental and exclusive use: €18,000 plus 22% VAT per day, or €21,960 including VAT
• Space-option fee without use: €9,000 plus 22% VAT per day, or €10,980 including VAT

The rental includes a finishing kitchen, restrooms, basic lighting, heating and air conditioning. A generator, catering, furniture and setup, audiovisual equipment, additional lighting, labor and logistics are quoted separately.

There is one major catch for 2027 weddings: the currently published installation period ends on 7 January 2027. Couples considering the April to November 2027 buyout dates should not assume Il Granaio will be present unless the venue confirms another installation period.

What About Weddings Under 130 Guests?

Smaller celebrations operate differently. Rosewood currently offers a partial buyout for groups of up to 100 guests, including 19 suites within the borgo, the associated outdoor area and an infinity pool. The 11 villas can then be reserved separately. The current 2027 proposal does not publish a standard price for that arrangement. A smaller wedding should receive a bespoke accommodation and event proposal.

For the full-buyout wedding format, the venue’s own mandatory commitments are so substantial that the date matters more than a difference of 20 or 30 guests.

For approximately 130 to 200 guests, plan around:

• November: approximately €850,000 to €1.15 million
• April: approximately €1.0 million to €1.35 million
• May or October: approximately €1.2 million to €1.6 million
• June or September: approximately €1.4 million to €1.9 million and above

A heavily produced 200- to 250-person wedding can exceed €2 million, particularly with major floral installations, bespoke structures, headline entertainment or several fully produced events.

These ranges include: the three-night full resort buyout, all stated VAT, the €237,210 three-day food and beverage, spa and transportation minimum, a welcome event, wedding-day food and beverage, a professional wedding planner, florals and event design, rentals and tablescape, lighting and technical production, photography and cinematography, music and entertainment, ceremony production, guest transportation, a farewell event or brunch, and event labor and logistics.

They exclude: guest flights, attire, rings, honeymoon and off-property accommodation where the wedding exceeds Castiglion del Bosco’s 178-bed capacity. They also do not assume that Il Granaio is available on the quoted 2027 dates. If a greenhouse or marquee needs to be installed specifically for your wedding, that could create another substantial production line.

The unusually high fixed cost has one counterintuitive implication: a 150-person buyout wedding may not cost dramatically less than a 200-person one. The resort buyout and minimum revenue commitments are largely fixed.

Castiglion del Bosco has two different capacity numbers that should not be confused. Rosewood’s current full-buyout program supports groups of up to 250 guests. Its currently published individual wedding spaces, however, top out at 200 guests. That distinction becomes particularly important above 200 guests.

San Michele Arcangelo Church

The medieval church sits inside the borgo and contains an original fresco by Pietro Lorenzetti. Current wedding materials support religious and symbolic ceremonies here. It works for a genuinely intimate wedding, or for a smaller Catholic ceremony followed by a larger reception elsewhere, but it cannot accommodate most full-buyout guest lists.

Medieval Castle Ruins

This is one of Castiglion del Bosco’s signature settings, immediately adjacent to the ruins of the estate’s medieval castle. Use of this area is tied to Villa Castello in the supplied wedding materials, so couples planning around the ruins should confirm that the current Villa Castello booking requirement remains part of the 2027 proposal.

Piazzetta del Borgo

The cobbled square works particularly well for the more relaxed parts of a multi-day wedding, including welcome dinners and village-style celebrations.

Private Villas

Rosewood’s villas are one of the most flexible ways to make the wedding feel private even within a resort. Current wedding materials require a marquee for outdoor villa events and specify that the chosen villa must be reserved for a minimum of four days, which can materially affect the room plan if you were not otherwise planning to reserve that particular villa.

Capanna Vineyard

The vineyard is best suited to smaller ceremonies, lunches, dinners or welcome events rather than the largest resort buyouts.

Ristorante Campo del Drago

This is the key permanent indoor reception space for a 2027 wedding if Il Granaio is not installed. Its 120-person capacity creates an obvious weather issue for a wedding large enough to trigger the 130-person full-buyout requirement.

Il Granaio

• Indoor glass structure

• Dinner with dance floor, bar and stage: up to 160

When present, Il Granaio transforms the rain plan. It is large enough to keep a substantial wedding indoors while retaining views toward the Val d’Orcia. For 161 to 200 guests, note the distinction between banquet capacity and dinner-plus-dancing capacity. A 200-person seated dinner does not mean 200 people can simultaneously fit with stage, bar and dance floor. 

Members’ Cellar

The Members’ Cellar at the estate winery is better suited to rehearsal dinners, wine events and smaller wedding gatherings.

The Club

• Indoor and terrace event setting
• Up to 60 guests for current private dining

The private golf club is useful for smaller auxiliary events rather than the main reception.

This is the question we would resolve before almost anything else.

For the quoted April to November 2027 dates, Castiglion del Bosco currently publishes no confirmed indoor wedding space large enough to cover the full 130-person threshold at which the resort requires a full buyout. Ristorante Campo del Drago accommodates up to 120 guests indoors. Il Granaio would solve the problem for most weddings, but its currently stated availability ends on 7 January 2027.

Around 100 to 120 Guests

This is the easiest wet-weather scenario. Campo del Drago can accommodate the reception indoors, although you should still ask Rosewood to demonstrate exactly where the ceremony, cocktails, dinner and dancing happen if every part of the event needs to move inside.

121 to 160 Guests

Il Granaio is the obvious solution when installed, because its published dinner-and-dance capacity is 160. Without Il Granaio, there is no currently published permanent indoor reception room that covers this guest count.

161 to 200 Guests

Il Granaio can accommodate up to 200 banquet-style, but only 160 when dinner, dance floor, bar and stage are all included. A 180- or 200-person wedding therefore needs a specific turnover plan or a separate party space even if the structure is present.

201 to 250 Guests

Rosewood allows resort buyouts for groups up to 250, but no current wedding space is published for a 250-person ceremony or seated reception. A wedding of this size needs a scaled floor plan for both fair weather and rain settled before booking.

Are Marquees Allowed?

Yes in at least one context. The wedding materials specifically require a marquee for outdoor events at a private villa. What is not published is a general 2027 policy explaining where additional temporary structures may be installed elsewhere on the estate, maximum dimensions, flooring requirements, installation periods or garden-protection rules. For a wedding of 130 or more on one of the quoted 2027 dates, this needs to be treated as part of the initial proposal, not a late weather contingency.

Accommodation is arguably Castiglion del Bosco’s biggest advantage over almost every private-villa wedding venue in Tuscany. A full resort buyout includes 42 suites, 11 private villas, 90 rooms and 178 guests in existing beds.

Three of the villas are located around the borgo, while the others sit throughout the wider estate. The villas range from three to six bedrooms and have private outdoor areas and heated pools.

For a 130- to 175-person wedding this is extremely convenient. In practical terms, almost every guest can sleep at the venue, wake up together, attend additional events without coaches and use the resort throughout the weekend. That changes once your group exceeds 178.

Where Should Overflow Guests Stay?

For approximately 180 to 250 guests, our first priority would be Montalcino, roughly 15 minutes from the estate. It gives guests a proper town with restaurants, cafés and wine bars rather than leaving them isolated in scattered countryside properties.

Buonconvento is another practical base. It is also the closest railway station to Castiglion del Bosco, approximately 15 minutes away by car.

The problem is scale. This is rural Tuscany, not Florence. There is no obvious single 70-room overflow hotel around the corner. For a 220- or 250-person wedding, expect to use several properties and build a coordinated shuttle plan. Given that a full buyout already carries an €8,000 plus VAT daily transportation minimum, airport arrivals, overflow-hotel transfers and wedding-night returns all belong in the transportation plan from day one.

Castiglion del Bosco is fundamentally different from a blank-canvas villa where an external caterer arrives and builds a temporary kitchen.

Food and beverage is part of the Rosewood operation, and the full-buyout proposal requires a €60,000 plus 10% VAT minimum per day. The estate’s event offering includes customized menus and a dedicated events team, while its wedding operation works with an established network of florists, photographers, makeup artists, entertainment suppliers and rental companies.

Couples should still clarify how much freedom they have outside that network. The current materials do not state that every florist, photographer, production company or planner must come from an exclusive preferred list.

Wedding Planner

The current material does not state that an external wedding planner is compulsory. Rosewood provides a dedicated events team, but at this spending level we would still appoint an experienced independent destination wedding planner. The venue’s team manages the estate. Your planner manages your interests, vendor contracts, creative production and the wedding as a whole.

Music and Curfew

Castiglion del Bosco does not currently publish a wedding music cutoff or decibel policy, so this guide does not state one on the basis of historic weddings or third-party listings. Before signing entertainment contracts, confirm when amplified outdoor music must end, whether dancing must move indoors, which spaces permit late-night music, whether a decibel limit applies, the final guest departure time, whether extensions are possible, and whether fireworks or other effects carry separate time restrictions.

Castiglion del Bosco is rural, but its resort infrastructure makes arrivals considerably easier than at many private Tuscan villas. Rosewood currently lists:

• Florence Airport: 119 km
• Pisa Airport: 180 km
• Rome Fiumicino: 234 km
• Rome Ciampino: 220 km
• Siena-Ampugnano: 44 km, primarily relevant to private aviation
• Grosseto: 65 km, primarily relevant to private aviation

Buonconvento is the nearest railway station, approximately 15 minutes from the resort. The estate also has a private helipad.

For most destination weddings, Florence is the easiest major airport for guests already traveling within Europe. Rome Fiumicino is worth offering to long-haul guests because of its much broader nonstop network, despite the longer road transfer.

Do Wedding Guests Need a Car?

Not if the weekend is planned properly. A couple undertaking a full buyout is already committed to at least €8,000 plus VAT of transportation services per day. Use that money to make the weekend work.

A large wedding needs airport transfers for major arrival waves, station transfers from Buonconvento where useful, shuttles for any guests staying off-property, transport to the winery or golf course where required, late-night returns for off-site guests, and departure transfers. Rosewood operates private cars and Mercedes vans and offers meet-and-greet services.

Guests staying at the estate for three nights should not need to rent a car unless they want to explore independently.

May

For most couples, May offers the best overall balance. Average daytime highs around Montalcino are approximately 22°C, or 72°F. The countryside is still green, temperatures are comfortable for outdoor ceremonies and you avoid the strongest summer heat. The 6 to 9 May buyout is €250,000 plus VAT per night, putting the three-night contractual minimum at €1,062,210.

June

June gives you longer days, warmer evenings and relatively low rainfall, with average daytime highs around 27°C, or 81°F. It is also the most expensive window currently quoted. 17 to 20 June costs €320,000 plus VAT per night, and once the daily revenue minimums are included the three-night contractual floor reaches €1,293,210. From a weather perspective June is arguably the strongest option. From a value perspective it is the hardest to justify.

September

September is our other favorite for the setting. Average highs are around 25°C, or 76°F, and temperatures are far more comfortable than midsummer. Rain becomes more likely than in June or July, however, which makes the unresolved 2027 covered-event plan more important. The 2 to 5 September contractual minimum is €1,227,210.

April

April is significantly cheaper than May, June, September or October. The 15 to 18 April three-night minimum comes to €864,210, about €429,000 less than the June option before any additional wedding production. The tradeoff is weather. Average highs are only around 18°C, or 64°F, and April is considerably wetter than June or July. We would not choose April for a 150-plus person wedding without a signed-off indoor or covered plan.

October

October can be beautiful in the Val d’Orcia, particularly if wine and harvest season are important to the weekend. Average highs fall to approximately 20°C, or 67°F, and rainfall rises considerably. Financially it is not particularly cheap: the 14 to 17 October minimum is €1,095,210, actually slightly higher than May.

November

November is the value play, relatively speaking. The 11 to 14 November full-buyout commitment is €699,210, compared with €1,293,210 in June, a difference of €594,000 before wedding production. But November is much cooler and is one of the wettest periods of the year around Montalcino on long-term climate averages. For a very large wedding, the savings only make sense if you are equally happy with an indoor or heavily covered celebration.

Our Pick

For most Castiglion del Bosco weddings, May or early September would be our starting point. June has the strongest outdoor conditions but commands a huge premium. April becomes interesting if the weather plan is strong. November changes the economics dramatically, but it also changes the kind of wedding you need to design.

Il Borro

Compare Castiglion del Bosco with Il Borro if what you like is the combination of a historic Tuscan estate, wine, resort services and enough accommodation to keep a very large group together. Il Borro accommodates up to 191 overnight guests and offers wedding stays built around a two- to three-day structure. It is the more obvious alternative for a couple who wants a large full-service Tuscan estate but does not specifically need the Rosewood experience or Castiglion del Bosco’s Val d’Orcia location.

Borgo Santo Pietro

Borgo Santo Pietro makes more sense if you like the five-star hotel model but your wedding will remain below 100 guests. Its current wedding program caps celebrations at 100, with the hotel, gardens, spa and restaurant forming a much smaller and more intimate resort environment. It is not a substitute for a 150- or 200-person Castiglion del Bosco takeover, but it is a very relevant comparison for couples considering a smaller luxury hotel wedding.

Villa Cetinale
