Borgo di Pietrafitta is a restored historic hamlet and working Chianti Classico estate outside Castellina in Chianti, set among vineyards, olive groves and wooded hills. For 2027, €26,500 including VAT buys three nights of exclusive use with accommodation, breakfast and daily cleaning. Because lodging for up to 85 guests sits inside that price, Pietrafitta can be unusually efficient for a destination wedding where most of the guest list stays together.

The main tradeoff is the rain plan. The 2027 offer supports an outdoor ceremony and dinner for up to 100 guests, but the historic Cellar seats 50 indoors. Above 50, a rented tent is required as the wet-weather backup. That threshold matters more than the headline outdoor maximum because it changes both the production plan and the true cost of an 80- or 100-person wedding.

Pietrafitta’s strongest practical advantage is the amount of accommodation bundled into the rental. The €26,500 three-night price includes the entire property, breakfast and accommodation for up to 85 guests in standard beds. At a 70- or 80-person wedding, that can keep nearly the whole guest list together in the borgo rather than splitting the weekend between a venue and several hotels.

That changes the feel of the weekend. The property is not just a villa with guest rooms attached. It is a compact stone hamlet with 8 rooms, 15 apartments, an infinity pool, barbecue area, winery, gardens and a small consecrated church. The estate has been a settlement for centuries, and the current resort occupies restored village buildings rather than one main house.

The strongest version of Pietrafitta is therefore not a 100-person event that happens to fit outdoors. It is a 50- to 80-person destination wedding where the lodging is fully used, the welcome evening and wedding day stay concentrated on the property, and guests spend the weekend walking between their rooms, the pool, the gardens, the winery and the event spaces.

The main limitation is equally clear: the rain plan does not scale with the outdoor maximum. The Cellar seats 50. The 2027 terms specifically require a tent as the backup when the indoor rooms cannot accommodate the group. That makes 50 guests a meaningful logistical threshold. At or below it, the building itself can support the dinner if the weather turns. Above it, weather infrastructure becomes part of the production plan from the beginning.

The second limitation is the party schedule. Outdoor music must be lowered by 11:30 p.m. and stopped by midnight, while indoor music can continue only until 1 a.m. There is also a €100-per-hour charge for indoor music after 11 p.m. Pietrafitta can still host a proper party, but it is not designed for a 2 or 3 a.m. dance floor.

Our preferred range is roughly 50–80 guests. At 50, you have a credible built-in indoor dinner plan and can keep the whole group on site. At 80, the residential economics remain excellent, but the tent needs to be treated as part of the core wedding design rather than an optional emergency line. At 100, the venue can still work outdoors, but you lose the all-guests-on-site advantage and the weather plan becomes more consequential.

Bottom line: Pietrafitta suits couples who want a relaxed, communal Chianti weekend and care about keeping most guests together. It is less well suited to a wedding that depends on a large built-in indoor reception room, dancing well past 1 a.m. or a full-service hotel operation.

The 2027 exclusive-use price

The current three-night wedding package is €26,500, VAT included. The price is a stay total, not a nightly tariff.

The property also has an infinity pool, barbecue area, free parking and Wi-Fi. These are part of the residential stay, while any event use of the pool or barbecue area should be defined as part of the wedding plan.

What sits outside the headline rental?

Wedding catering, bar service, event staffing, planner, flowers, furniture and tabletop rentals, lighting, sound, entertainment, photography, videography, transportation and temporary weather structures are external wedding costs. The venue does not require those services to be purchased through the hotel itself, although it publishes a list of recommended suppliers.

The important budgeting distinction is that accommodation and breakfast are already inside the venue line. Do not add a separate hotel budget for the first 85 overnight guests in a 2027 wedding model unless the final rooming list exceeds the confirmed standard-bed capacity or the contract changes that inventory.

Longer stays and the seven-night summer minimum

A 10% discount may be available for stays longer than three nights, but the base prices for four, five, six or seven nights are not stated. That means €26,500 less 10% is not a valid seven-night price. From mid-July to mid-August, when a seven-night stay is mandatory, the actual seven-night total is an essential comparison point against June, September or October.

The 80- and 100-person models include a meaningful allowance for a required bad-weather tent because the indoor Cellar seats only 50. They exclude off-property hotel rooms, guest flights and personal wedding expenses.

The food-and-drink allowance is €180–€300 per guest for the wedding day. It is a planning range for a professionally staffed reception, not a Pietrafitta menu. The welcome-and-farewell allowance is €70–€140 per guest across both events combined.

The weather line is the main swing factor. A simple tent and a fully floored, lit, power-supported structure are not the same product. For weddings above 50, we would price the approved backup structure before treating the upper end of the venue budget as optional.

For 2027, Borgo di Pietrafitta allows an outdoor ceremony and dinner for up to 100 guests. The historic Cellar seats 50 and the Church of San Jacopo seats 40. Those are the three capacity figures that matter most when designing the day: 100 outdoors, 50 for a seated indoor dinner and 40 in the church.

The named outdoor areas give the wedding room to move through the property rather than using one setting for every phase. A sensible dry-weather sequence could be a ceremony in one garden, cocktails around the pool or barbecue area, dinner in another courtyard or garden, then dancing indoors before the outdoor-music cutoff. The exact space-by-space layout should be built around the overall 100-person outdoor limit.

The Cellar is the room that matters most operationally. Fifty seated is enough for a smaller wedding, but it does not provide an equivalent indoor fallback for the advertised outdoor maximum. That makes 50, rather than 100, the key weather threshold.

For a tented wedding, the useful document is one approved site plan showing the structure location, guest circulation, catering access, flooring or anchoring, power, toilets and the route into the late-night indoor space. That makes the tent part of the wedding design rather than a separate emergency add-on.

For 50 guests or fewer, the Cellar provides the clearest built-in indoor dinner fallback. For more than 50, the venue’s 2027 terms explicitly say a tent must be rented as the backup plan because the indoor spaces cannot accommodate a larger group.

Pietrafitta is unusually clear about where the rain-plan threshold sits. The tradeoff is that, above 50 guests, the tent cannot sensibly be treated as a last-minute weather decision. It affects the layout, supplier schedule and budget even if the wedding ultimately happens outside.

• Up to 40: Church can cover an intimate religious ceremony; Cellar can cover dinner. Drinks still need a comfortable indoor or tented location if weather is severe.
• 41–50: Cellar can cover seated dinner. The ceremony and aperitivo still need an approved wet-weather sequence, especially if the church is not being used.
• 51–85: Tent should be treated as core production. This range still preserves the all-or-nearly-all-guests-on-site lodging advantage.
• 86–100: Tent plus overflow accommodation and transport become part of the plan. The venue still works, but the operational simplicity that makes it attractive begins to erode.

How the larger-wedding rain plan should work

For 51 to 100 guests, the wedding plan should include the approved tent location and size, the flooring or anchoring method, power and catering requirements, and the wet-weather route for the ceremony, drinks, dinner and late-night party. Price that structure before booking so it is part of the working budget rather than a contingency added later.

The real decision is whether the tented version of the celebration still feels like the wedding you want. For an 80- or 100-person event, that matters more than simply knowing a tent can be installed.

Borgo di Pietrafitta can accommodate up to 85 guests in standard beds for 2027, across 8 rooms and 15 apartments in the restored village. On paper, that means an 80-person wedding fits entirely on site, while a 100-person wedding leaves about 15 guests needing overflow accommodation. The exact rooming plan still matters because 85 is a total sleeping-capacity figure, not a named allocation of rooms to particular guests.

The room and apartment inventory

The accommodation is distributed through the borgo rather than concentrated in a conventional hotel corridor. That is part of the appeal for a destination wedding, but it also makes the rooming list more important. Families, older guests and anyone with mobility constraints should be assigned based on the actual unit, stairs and walking route, not simply on room category. The main-house rooms are on the first floor and reached by a flight of stairs.

Where should overflow guests stay?

For weddings above the confirmed on-site sleeping capacity, our first choice would be to keep the overflow group in or immediately around Castellina in Chianti rather than scatter people across rural villas. The venue is about 4 km outside the town, so a concentrated town-based block keeps shuttles simple and gives guests restaurants and wine bars within walking distance between events.

• Hotel Palazzo Squarcialupi: 15-room historic hotel in the center of town with a pool, wellness center and restaurant access; useful for a compact overflow block.
• Villa Casalecchi: Small historic countryside hotel with a panoramic pool; better for guests who prefer a quieter villa-style stay and do not need to be in town.
• Locanda Le Piazze: Boutique countryside hotel with pool and destination dining; a stronger luxury option for a smaller group.

For a 100-person wedding, 15 overflow places are manageable. We would rather put those guests into one or two nearby properties and run one shuttle route than create five separate pickup points.

Catering and suppliers

Catering, music, décor, furniture and the other wedding services sit outside the rental. External suppliers are allowed, and the venue also publishes a recommended list covering catering, bar, photography, flowers, beverages, live music and celebrants.

The venue currently names Delizia Ricevimenti, Ludovichi and Roland’s as catering options and Bar Liquid Experience for bar service. Because catering is not included in the €26,500 rental, request a proposal that clearly separates food, beverages, staff, rentals, kitchen or prep facilities, overtime, setup and cleanup.

Estate wine

Borgo di Pietrafitta is a working wine estate within Chianti Classico. It produces its own Chianti Classico DOCG as well as Toscana IGT wines and olive oil. The 2027 package includes one bottle of Chianti Classico in each room or apartment as a welcome gift, but the wedding terms do not state a compulsory estate-wine purchase, corkage policy or minimum beverage spend. Those should be established in the event proposal.

Music: midnight outdoors, 1 a.m. indoors

The operating sequence is clear:

• Outdoor music must be turned down by 11:30 p.m.
• Outdoor music must stop completely by midnight.
• Music may continue indoors until 1 a.m.
• After 11 p.m., indoor music carries a €100-per-hour charge.

For most weddings, we would move guests inside before 11:30 rather than treating the cutoff as the moment to begin a room change. The DJ or band contract should be written around the actual transition, and transport should offer at least one earlier departure plus a final run after 1 a.m.

If the late-night party matters, the contract should identify the indoor room used after midnight and any sound, door or window rules that apply there. For planning purposes, 1 a.m. remains the end point for music.

Religious ceremony in the church

The small Church of San Jacopo is still consecrated and is promoted for religious ceremonies. The wedding material gives it a capacity of 40 and states that use for a religious ceremony carries an additional cost. Religious permissions and the exact fee should be confirmed for the couple’s denomination and date.

Symbolic ceremony

The outdoor gardens provide the natural setting for a symbolic ceremony. Because the venue sells several outdoor wedding areas rather than one fixed ceremony lawn, ask for the exact ceremony location and a scaled seating plan in the proposal.

Borgo di Pietrafitta sits in the countryside north of Castellina in Chianti. The venue itself recommends using a car and says guests arriving by plane or train should hire one or arrange onward transport. Florence Airport is about 53 km away.

• Florence Airport (FLR): About 53 km from the venue. For a group arrival, allow roughly 55–75 minutes by road depending on traffic and pickup logistics.
• Pisa Airport (PSA):  Roughly 102 km from the venue. Allow around 1½–2 hours by road as a planning range.
• Siena: Around 26 km away. Useful for guests extending the trip, but not the closest accommodation base for the wedding weekend.
• Castellina in Chianti-Monteriggioni station: The municipality lists the station at about 11 km from Castellina. It sits on the regional Empoli–Siena–Chiusi line; a car or pre-arranged transfer is still required for the final leg.

For destination weddings, the simplest setup is to treat Florence as the main international gateway, arrange private transfers for the couple and key family, and give other guests either a scheduled group-transfer option or clear rental-car instructions.

Do guests need a car?

Guests staying at Pietrafitta for the full three-night weekend do not need a car for the wedding itself if transfers are organized properly. Once everyone is on the property, accommodation, breakfast and the event spaces are all together. Guests who want to explore wineries, hill towns or restaurants independently will appreciate having one.

Wedding-day transportation is simpler here than at venues that sleep only a small fraction of the guest list. At 80 guests, off-site hotel shuttles may not be needed if the full room inventory is used. At 100, the overflow group is only about 15 people, so one dedicated local route may be enough. Vehicle size, turning and waiting arrangements should be settled before the transport contract is signed.

Our first choices would be late May, June and early September. They preserve the outdoor character of the property without the strongest midsummer heat, and they avoid the seven-night minimum that applies from mid-July to mid-August.

Late May and June

This is the easiest balance for an outdoor ceremony and dinner. Days are warm, daylight is long and June’s regional rainfall average is lower than in spring or autumn. The rain plan still matters, but the conditions are generally more comfortable for using the gardens.

July and August

July is the driest month in the Siena normals, but average daytime highs are around 30.5°C and August is similar. Schedule outdoor ceremonies later in the day, plan shade and water, and be deliberate about guest comfort. The bigger commercial issue is mid-July to mid-August: Pietrafitta requires a seven-night stay in that period, so the real rental cost must be requested before comparing those dates with June or September.

September

Early September is one of our favorite options here. Average highs fall to about 25°C, while the vineyards and wine-estate setting feel particularly appropriate. Rainfall rises materially from summer, which makes the tent question more important for weddings above 50.

October

October can be beautiful in Chianti, but it is a more weather-dependent decision. Siena’s average monthly rainfall reaches about 106 mm and evenings are much cooler. We would choose October only if the approved tent or indoor-first plan feels like a wedding you actually want, not an emergency compromise.

Building a wedding weekend around the stay

A three-night rental lends itself naturally to arrival drinks and a casual dinner on night one, the wedding on day two and a poolside or winery-focused farewell gathering before departure. Wine tastings are an especially coherent activity because Pietrafitta produces Chianti Classico on the estate and offers guided visits and tasting experiences. The wedding proposal should state whether welcome or farewell gatherings carry separate event or service charges.

Borgo Stomennano: similar residential scale, more explicit event fees

Borgo Stomennano near Monteriggioni is a useful comparison for couples who like the private-borgo format but do not need Pietrafitta’s 85-bed capacity. Its current 2026 rates publish €27,700 for a Friday-to-Monday three-night exclusive stay for 38 people, plus a wedding reception fee of €3,200–€5,200 depending on guest count. Its restored barn is used for events up to about 90. Pietrafitta is stronger for keeping a larger share of the wedding on site; Stomennano is useful if a smaller residential group and a Siena-adjacent location work better.

Castello di Celsa: stronger formal-estate character and dedicated covered rooms

Castello di Celsa west of Siena is a private historic residence with a Renaissance chapel, Italian garden, castle courtyard, woods and the Granary, whose two roofed halls create a different indoor-event proposition. It is the comparison to make if formal gardens and a dedicated covered reception building matter more than housing most guests together in one compact borgo.

Castello di Bossi: a broader wine-estate experience

Castello di Bossi is another Chianti Classico wine estate, but its hospitality is distributed across multiple farmhouses and it offers two consecrated churches for ceremonies. It is a better comparison for couples who want a larger, more dispersed winery estate rather than a self-contained village where accommodation and event spaces sit close together.
