Villa Cetinale Wedding Cost (2026): Pricing, Capacity & Everything to Know

Planning a Villa Cetinale wedding? Cetinale is a Carlo Fontana Baroque estate on the edge of the Montagnola Senese, about 20 minutes west of Siena, with one of Tuscany’s most celebrated historic gardens. Edith Wharton wrote about the estate, while garden designer Penelope Hobhouse described its flower garden as one of the most beautiful in Italy.

It is also a venue with one unusual booking requirement that shapes almost everything else: during high season, you cannot simply reserve the property for a wedding day. Instead, couples rent the entire estate exclusively for a seven-night, Friday-to-Friday stay. This guide covers what that actually costs, the 100-guest capacity, accommodations for 48 guests across four estate houses, the 1 a.m. music curfew, where everyone else should stay and what to ask before signing a contract.

Villa Cetinale is one of Tuscany’s genuinely important historic garden estates. Cardinal Flavio Chigi commissioned Carlo Fontana, a pupil of Bernini, to create the villa in its present form, completed in 1680. Behind it, the estate rises through the Thebaid, its historic holy wood, past seven votive chapels and dozens of statues and busts toward the Romitorio hermitage on the ridge. Lord Lambton bought Cetinale in 1978 and spent the following decades restoring the house and gardens. This is not simply a wedding venue with a beautiful garden attached. The garden is a major part of why you come here.

What makes Cetinale commercially unusual is that it does not really sell wedding days. It sells weeks. In high season the villa is rented Friday to Friday, and the wedding is layered onto a seven-night private stay on the estate. That single requirement is arguably the most important fact on this page: it creates a substantial fixed cost before wedding production begins, rules out the two- or three-night format available at many other Tuscan estates and fundamentally changes who the venue suits. Cetinale makes the most sense for couples who genuinely want a week in Tuscany with their closest family and friends, not couples primarily looking for a venue for Saturday night.

The tradeoff is capacity. Weddings are capped at 100 guests, while the Limonaia accommodates approximately 80 seated indoors and the villa’s own dining rooms are suitable for much smaller groups. At the same time, the estate sleeps 48 across the villa and three additional houses. The result is a relatively intimate wedding in an unusually significant historic setting, with a large portion of your closest guests able to stay on the property for several days.

Music restrictions also deserve attention before booking. One current venue specialist lists reduced volume from midnight and a hard stop at 1 a.m., while another reports earlier restrictions on outdoor music and the possibility of extending indoor music for an additional fee. Couples planning a late-night party should confirm the current rules, permitted locations and any extension options directly before signing.

Villa Cetinale does not publicly publish wedding pricing on its own website. The figures below come from current villa-rental agencies and wedding specialists and should be treated as planning figures rather than a direct quote from the estate.

A high-season wedding at Cetinale starts with something unusual: a full seven-night rental of the main villa. Current 2026 euro-denominated agency pricing runs from €27,000 per week in winter to €62,000 at peak, with the core May-through-September wedding season priced at approximately €45,000–€62,000 per week.

• Late February to early April: about 33,000 euros
• Early April: about 35,500 euros

• May 1 to 28: about 50,000 euros

Food, beverages and heating are not included in those published rates, and permission to hold an event carries an additional fee.

The practical takeaway: for a May-through-September 2026 wedding, budget approximately €45,000–€62,000 for the main villa's required seven-night rental alone. That is before the wedding event fee, any additional estate houses, catering and wedding production.

Holding a wedding costs extra on top of the rental. Sources do not agree on how much, and the gap is large enough to matter.

• Wedding specialist: 3,000 euros up to 25 guests, 7,500 up to 75, and 10,500 for 76 to 100
• Villa rental agency: 6,000 euros up to 75, 10,000 for 76 to 120, plus 3,000 euros for use of the professional kitchen

Ask the villa for the current event fee in writing before you build any budget around it.

For planning, RoamRecs uses 10,500 euros with a note to verify. A 20,000-euro supplement instead would add roughly 9,500, which is three to five percent of a mid-sized wedding's total. Material, but not the thing that decides this venue.

The breakfast charge is easy to overlook and is not small. At 35 euros per person per day, a full estate of 48 people over a seven-night week is roughly 11,700 euros. 

Putting it together for 100 guests in September 2027, taking the villa and assuming the three cottages are quoted separately:

• Villa Cetinale, one week in September: about 61,000 euros
• Event fee, 76 to 100 guests: about 10,500 euros
• Professional kitchen: 3,000 euros

In late May or June the same line moves to roughly 92,000 euros before cottages. In late April it falls to roughly 65,000, and in early October to roughly 72,000.

Villa Cetinale is fundamentally a private house and historic estate rather than a full-service event resort, so most of what makes the wedding itself happen must be brought in: professional catering and service staff, furniture and tabletop rentals, florals, lighting and power, entertainment, transportation and, where needed, additional weather infrastructure.

One current Tuscany wedding specialist independently estimates a full-scale Cetinale wedding at roughly €150,000–€300,000+, broadly supporting the overall range used here.

Includes: the required main-villa rental, event fee, catering and bar, planner, florals and design, rentals, lighting and power, photography and video, music, transportation for off-property guests, a welcome event and a farewell meal.

Excludes: off-property hotel rooms, guest flights, attire, rings, honeymoon and any VAT not already included in underlying vendor or venue quotes.

Two features of these ranges matter. First, Cetinale has a very high fixed-cost floor. The seven-night villa rental barely changes with guest count, so a 50-person wedding carries a much higher venue cost per guest than a 100-person celebration.

Second, date selection is one of the biggest available savings levers. Based on current 2026 agency pricing, moving from June or peak summer into late April, early May or early October can reduce the main-villa rental by roughly €15,000–€26,000, depending on the exact week.

Villa Cetinale is rented as a fully staffed private home, not as a turnkey wedding venue. The weekly rental includes a substantial level of residential service, but almost everything required to produce the wedding itself is additional.

Wedding Production Is Not Included

Budget separately for:

Other residential costs that may also be additional include food and beverages for house guests, heating, laundry, airport transfers and the three additional estate houses.

One practical detail: during ordinary rentals, the Limonaia functions as a games room with table tennis and other equipment. If you plan to use it as your rain backup, dinner space or dance floor, confirm early who is responsible for clearing, resetting and restoring the room. 

The current wedding maximum is 100 guests. Villa Cetinale states that limit directly, and current wedding specialists use the same ceiling.

The Limonaia is Cetinale’s primary indoor backup and appears to seat roughly 80 guests. That works reasonably well for smaller weddings, but it does not match the estate’s 100-person maximum.

• Under roughly 70 guests: the Limonaia appears to provide a credible indoor dinner backup. Confirm the final floor plan and whether the quoted capacity still works once space is allocated for dancing, entertainment and service.
• 70–100 guests: the indoor option may no longer accommodate everyone comfortably. Depending on the layout, you may need a marquee or another approved covered solution. 
• Tented receptions have been used at Cetinale. Multiple documented weddings have placed clear or traditional marquees on the estate, including along the cypress-lined axis, so this is an established solution rather than a theoretical one. The current rules on location, dimensions, flooring and installation should still be confirmed for your event.

Does the rain plan change the experience? Substantially. Much of Cetinale’s appeal comes from the relationship between the villa, formal gardens, cypress axis and Romitorio above it. The Limonaia is an attractive historic room, but moving dinner entirely indoors changes the character of the celebration. A well-designed clear marquee can preserve much more of the garden experience, but it also adds meaningful production cost.

Marquee pricing is highly specification-dependent. One recent Cetinale couple reported planner quotes of roughly $10,000–$20,000 for a weather-backup structure for a May wedding, but that is anecdotal rather than official venue pricing. Flooring, lighting, power, draping, heating and installation can materially change the final number.

RoamRecs read: if you are planning for more than roughly 80 guests, particularly in May, September or October, discuss the covered-weather plan before signing. We would assume it may become a real production line rather than treating it as an expense you can decide on a week before the wedding.

Villa Cetinale can accommodate 48 guests across four properties, which is one of its strongest practical advantages. For a venue capped at 100 wedding guests, that means almost half of the wedding can stay on the estate for the full week rather than commuting in from hotels.

• Villa Cetinale, sleeps 25: 13 bedrooms, including nine doubles, three twins and one single. Guests have access to the estate’s main pool, tennis court, gym, games room, gardens and residential staff.
• La Cerbaia, sleeps 13: A seven-bedroom farmhouse between the villa and the Romitorio, with its own pool, pizza oven and outdoor dining areas. Villa Cetinale notes that La Cerbaia tends to book several months in advance.
• Casa Fabbri, sleeps 6: Three en-suite bedrooms set in an olive grove beside the Thebaid, with a private pool and outdoor dining terrace.
• Casa Stella, sleeps 4: A two-bedroom cottage overlooking the villa’s flower garden.

The result is a genuine house-party setup: immediate family and much of the wedding party can live together on the estate rather than simply arriving for the wedding day. That fits particularly well with Cetinale’s compulsory seven-night high-season rental.

The three additional houses are rented separately from the main villa. Some third-party rental agencies publish indicative rates for individual cottages, but Cetinale does not publish a single all-estate wedding price. If having all 48 beds matters, request pricing and reserve the additional houses at the same time as the main villa, particularly La Cerbaia.

For an 80- to 100-person wedding, the remaining guests will need to stay off-property. Our default would be to base the majority of them in Siena, roughly 20 to 25 minutes from Cetinale, rather than scattering the group across rural villas and agriturismi. Siena gives guests restaurants, bars, shops and sightseeing during the week, while keeping everyone concentrated in one place makes wedding-day transportation significantly easier.

For accommodations, we would look first at:

• Grand Hotel Continental Siena: Best for the couple, parents and guests wanting a five-star hotel in the center of Siena.
• Hotel Athena: One of the more practical options for a larger group because it combines a central location with parking and relatively straightforward vehicle access.
• Palazzo Ravizza: A good balance of character, location and value, with a historic setting inside the city walls and a garden overlooking the countryside.
• Hotel Certosa di Maggiano: Best for guests who prefer a quieter luxury property with a pool, gardens and parking just outside the historic center.

For most weddings, we would rather put a larger group into one or two Siena hotels than divide 40 to 50 guests among numerous countryside properties. The exception would be couples deliberately creating a second villa-based group closer to Cetinale.

One scheduling issue matters enormously: Siena’s Palio traditionally takes place on July 2 and August 16, with trials, ceremonies and events in the days leading up to each race. Hotel demand rises sharply around both dates, and room blocks become materially harder and more expensive to secure. Cetinale itself promotes Palio stays and can help arrange tickets or balcony viewing, so the overlap can be an extraordinary part of the wedding week if you plan for it. It is much less fun if you discover it after choosing your date.

Siena’s historic center is also a ZTL, or restricted traffic zone. Authorized taxis and private-hire vehicles can generally access accommodations inside the zone, but large wedding coaches may not be able to reach every hotel or street. Before finalizing a room block, have your transportation company confirm exactly where a full-size shuttle can load and unload. For a wedding with 40 or 50 guests staying in town, hotel access can matter almost as much as the hotel itself.

Villa Cetinale is a staffed private residence rather than a hotel with an in-house events department, so most wedding production is handled by outside vendors.

Wedding catering is external. Cetinale’s residential chef is intended for house guests rather than a full-scale wedding; current specialist sources place the in-house limit at roughly 25 to 30 people. Weddings above that size therefore require an outside caterer. One rental listing also quotes a €3,000 fee for use of the professional kitchen, but other information on that same listing appears dated, so confirm whether the charge still applies.

No mandatory or preferred caterer list is publicly available. Villa Cetinale says it can recommend local wedding organizers and vendors, but does not state publicly whether any suppliers are compulsory. Ask for the current vendor policy, including any approved-vendor requirements or kitchen restrictions, before signing.

Planner: Cetinale does not publicly state that a wedding planner is mandatory. RoamRecs would treat one as essential for a wedding of any meaningful scale. This is a staffed private home rather than a turnkey event venue, and catering, rentals, production, transportation, weather planning and vendor coordination all sit outside the basic villa rental.

Music and Curfew

Plan around a 1 a.m. hard stop. Current wedding specialists consistently put the final music cutoff at 1 a.m. The most detailed current technical source says volume must be reduced from midnight, while another planner describes outdoor dancing ending at midnight with softer background music continuing until 1 a.m.

Older listings claim later indoor music, but some of those same pages also publish outdated capacities and other incorrect Cetinale information. Do not sign a band or DJ contract around a post-1 a.m. party unless the estate confirms the current rules in writing.

Ceremony Options

Symbolic ceremony or blessing: Yes. Villa Cetinale explicitly allows blessings in its gardens, and the estate’s 17th-century chapel, Chiesa di Sant’Eustachio, can host an intimate blessing for up to about 30 guests.

Catholic ceremony: Typically off-site. Couples generally use one of the nearby churches in the Siena countryside and return to Cetinale for the reception.

Legally binding civil ceremony: We would currently assume off-site rather than at Cetinale. The Comune di Sovicille’s current civil-marriage information lists municipal ceremony locations rather than Villa Cetinale, while Cetinale itself describes its on-site options as blessings. An older rental listing claims civil ceremonies can take place in the gardens, but that source also contains outdated venue information. If having a legally binding ceremony on the estate is important, obtain written confirmation from both Cetinale and the Comune di Sovicille before relying on it.

Other Rules to Confirm Before Booking

Before signing, ask Cetinale or your planner to confirm:

• Fireworks and open-flame policies
• Vendor load-in and setup hours
• Breakdown and collection deadlines
• Generator and additional power requirements
• Parking and vendor-staging rules
• Sound-system restrictions
• Rules for tents, marquees and other temporary structures
• Any required security or staffing
• Current cancellation and payment terms

These details are unlikely to determine whether you love Cetinale, but they can materially affect both production cost and how flexible the wedding day actually is.

Villa Cetinale is rural, but it is relatively accessible by Tuscan-estate standards. The property’s own directions place it 90 km from Florence Airport, 105 km from Pisa Airport and 8.5 km from Siena-Ampugnano Airport. Siena itself is about 15 km away.

• Florence Airport (FLR): 90 km, typically about 1 to 1¼ hours by road
• Pisa Airport (PSA): 105 km, typically about 1½ hours
• Rome Fiumicino (FCO): roughly 240 km, generally about 2½ to 3 hours
• Siena-Ampugnano (SAY): 8.5 km; relevant primarily for private and general aviation rather than scheduled commercial flights

For most European guests, Florence is the simplest arrival airport. Pisa is also worth offering as an alternative, particularly for UK guests, because it has extensive direct service from London and other British cities. Long-haul guests may find better nonstop options into Rome and then arrange a private transfer or rental car.

Driving to Villa Cetinale

Cetinale is approximately 20 to 25 minutes west of Siena, near Sovicille and Ancaiano.

The final approach is worth flagging to guests. Cetinale’s own directions route drivers from Siena along the SS73 toward Sovicille, then onto the SP37 and SP52 toward Ancaiano. Shortly before Ancaiano, guests turn onto a dirt road signed for Cetinale and Celsa, eventually reaching the villa’s green gates.

For guests driving themselves, send the villa’s written directions along with the map location. The final strada bianca is manageable, but it is useful for rental-car drivers to know in advance that the last stretch is unpaved.

Large-coach access is not clearly documented publicly. Before signing a transportation contract, ask Cetinale to confirm the largest vehicle that can comfortably reach the property, where coaches can turn around and load, and how many vehicles can stage on-site. For a 50- to 100-person wedding, this is a question to resolve before assuming full-size coaches will work.

Arriving by Train or Bus

Siena is not on Italy’s high-speed rail network. Regional trains from Florence generally take around 1½ hours, usually via Empoli.

The intercity bus can be even simpler. Autolinee Toscane operates direct 131 and 131R services between Florence and Siena, with the trip from Florence Santa Maria Novella taking about 1 hour 20 minutes. From Siena, guests still need a private transfer, taxi or wedding shuttle for the final 20- to 25-minute drive to Cetinale.

Do Wedding Guests Need a Car?

Guests staying at Cetinale for the full week will generally want one. The estate is rural, there is no useful public transportation to the property, and having a car makes restaurants, groceries and day trips much easier.

Guests staying in Siena, however, do not need to rent a car if you provide organized wedding transportation.

For most weddings, we would:

• Keep the majority of off-property guests together in Siena
• Arrange coaches or minibuses for the wedding day, including a return after the 1 a.m. music cutoff
• Confirm the exact Siena pickup points before choosing the hotel block, particularly if using full-size coaches
• Confirm vehicle-size and turning restrictions with Cetinale before signing the shuttle contract
• Encourage guests who want to explore Tuscany independently during the week to rent cars, while telling guests staying primarily in Siena that they can manage without one

If you are also transporting guests for a welcome dinner, rehearsal event or farewell meal, build those movements into the transportation quote from the beginning rather than budgeting only for Saturday.

Cetinale can be rented outside the traditional wedding season, but the booking structure changes materially through the year. Current wedding information requires a Friday-to-Friday rental for most of the year, with shorter four-night stays possible from November through April. For weddings, the best months are largely a tradeoff among garden conditions, weather and the villa's seasonal rental rate.

• May: our first choice. Cetinale's gardens are particularly compelling in spring, when the estate says wisteria covers the walls and walkways and the wider garden comes into bloom. Siena's average May highs are around 22°C to 23°C, making outdoor ceremonies much more comfortable than midsummer. The tradeoff is a somewhat greater chance of rain than in peak summer.
• Late May and June: best for weather and long evenings. For couples prioritizing an outdoor ceremony and dinner, June is probably the best balance of warmth, relatively low rainfall and long daylight, but you pay a significant premium over most of May.
• September: our favorite late-season option. Average September highs are around 25°C, making daytime events more comfortable than July or August, although rainfall begins to increase and sunset arrives earlier. The discount versus June is modest, so we would choose September primarily for the conditions rather than for major savings.
• Early October: the value play. Average highs around Siena remain close to 20°C, but rainfall is materially higher than in summer. Because Cetinale's strongest confirmed indoor dinner option holds only about 70–80 guests, that weather risk becomes increasingly important as your guest count approaches 100.
• July and August: best weather certainty, hardest on guests. These are Cetinale's peak-priced weeks, with average highs around 29°C to 30°C and hotter periods entirely possible. For a wedding centered on the formal gardens, we would push the ceremony and dinner later in the day rather than asking guests to sit outside in the afternoon heat. If guests are staying in Siena, also account for the Palio periods around July 2 and August 16 when hotel demand and activity in the city rise sharply.
• April and the true off-season: interesting for smaller weddings. Four-night stays become possible from November through April. This can materially lower the fixed venue cost, but cooler temperatures and less predictable weather make the 70–80-person Limonaia capacity much more important. For a small wedding that is comfortable moving indoors, the economics become considerably more attractive.

RoamRecs Take: for most couples, we would start with May, June or September. May offers the strongest combination of spring gardens and relative value; June gives you the best overall outdoor-wedding conditions; and September offers warm weather without peak-summer heat. Early October is compelling financially, but we would be much more cautious about it for weddings approaching the 100-person maximum because Cetinale's indoor capacity does not fully cover the guest list.

Villa Cetinale has a few constraints that materially affect both budget and logistics:

• The weeklong rental is the biggest commitment. For most of the wedding season, Cetinale requires a full Friday-to-Friday stay; shorter four-night rentals are available only from November through April. Based on current 2026 pricing, the main villa plus a €10,500 event-fee planning assumption starts at roughly €55,500 in May and reaches about €72,500 at peak, before additional estate houses, catering and wedding production.
• The guest maximum is 100. If your list is already close to that number and may grow, Cetinale gives you essentially no room to expand.
• The indoor rain plan does not fully cover a maximum-size wedding. The Limonaia is generally quoted at approximately 70–80 seated guests, so weddings closer to 100 should resolve the marquee or covered-weather plan early.
• Plan around a 1 a.m. music cutoff. The strongest current technical source calls for reduced volume from midnight and a complete stop at 1 a.m. Confirm the exact outdoor and indoor rules before signing entertainment contracts.
• Some important costs still require a direct quote. Current sources disagree on the event fee, VAT treatment is not clearly stated, and there is no official consolidated price for renting all four estate houses together.
• Transportation needs advance planning. The final approach to Cetinale includes an unpaved road, while public information does not clearly state maximum coach size, turnaround space or parking capacity. Confirm those details before committing to large wedding shuttles.

Before signing a contract with Villa Cetinale, get the following points confirmed in writing:

• What is the current event fee for our exact guest count, what does it include, and is IVA included? Current sources give materially different figures.
• Does the quoted weekly villa rental include IVA, and what other mandatory taxes or service charges are added?
• Is the Friday-to-Friday rental mandatory for our dates? If considering the off-season, confirm exactly when the shorter four-night minimum is available.
• What are the current rates for La Cerbaia, Casa Fabbri and Casa Stella, and can all three be reserved alongside the main villa for the same week?
• What is the exact seated capacity of the Limonaia? Ask for layouts both with and without a dance floor, band/DJ, bar and service stations.
• What is the approved wet-weather plan at our guest count? If a marquee is needed, where may it be installed and what restrictions apply to size, flooring, anchoring and garden protection?
• Is breakfast compulsory, who does the charge apply to, and on which days? Also confirm whether the reported professional-kitchen fee still applies and exactly what it covers.
• Can we appoint any caterer and wedding vendors, or are there approved, preferred or mandatory suppliers?
• What are the current music rules? Confirm when outdoor amplified music must reduce or stop, when guests must move indoors, the final hard cutoff and whether any extension is possible.
• What size shuttle or coach can reach the estate? Confirm turning space, loading areas, parking capacity and any vehicle restrictions on the final approach.
• Does the property have sufficient power for catering, lighting, entertainment and other wedding production, or will generators be required?
• When may vendors begin setup, and when must breakdown and collection be completed?
• If we want a legally binding civil ceremony on the estate, can Villa Cetinale currently be authorized by the Comune di Sovicille?
• What exactly does exclusive use mean during our rental? Confirm whether any garden tours, maintenance visits or other third-party access can occur during the week.
• What are the rules for fireworks, candles, open flames and other effects, particularly around the gardens and wooded areas?
• What is the payment and cancellation schedule? Confirm when each payment becomes non-refundable, the terms for postponement or cancellation, and how the €5,000 security deposit is returned or deducted.

• Castello di Celsa, Sovicille: The closest alternative geographically and probably the most natural comparison. Celsa is on the same side of Siena and works better if Cetinale’s compulsory week is the dealbreaker: current specialist information shows a two-night weekend option, accommodation for about 22 guests, and indoor dinner capacity of up to 130 in the Granary. You give up Cetinale’s unusually high on-site bed count and historic garden complex, but gain substantially more flexibility on length of stay and wet-weather capacity.
• Villa di Geggiano, Castelnuovo Berardenga: Better for a larger wedding and for couples who want a shorter buyout with relatively transparent current planning costs. Current 2027 specialist pricing lists a two-night weekend minimum, an €11,000 event fee up to 100 guests and €14,500 for 101–180, with outdoor capacity up to 180. The tradeoff is accommodation for only about 10 guests and an indoor ballroom that seats roughly 60, making the rain plan weaker for a large wedding.
• La Foce, Val d’Orcia: Better for couples who want another historically significant garden estate but do not want to commit to Cetinale for a full week. Current specialist information describes a three-night minimum, outdoor dinners around 100–140 guests depending on setup, and accommodation for up to roughly 48 across associated estate properties. Its Limonaia is also relatively limited indoors, so La Foce reduces the minimum-stay problem more than it solves the rain-plan problem.
• Castello di Bossi, Chianti Classico: Better for couples prioritizing a full wedding weekend with more guests staying together on a working wine estate. The official property offers accommodation across several farmhouses, while a current specialist guide puts the total at 63 guests in the farmhouses or up to 77 with the castle included, generally around a three-night structure. It has much more lodging infrastructure than Cetinale, but feels more like a sprawling wine estate than an intimate historic villa.
• Borgo Santo Pietro, Chiusdino: Better if you want a true five-star hotel experience rather than a private-house rental. Borgo combines accommodation, restaurants, spa and a dedicated hospitality team, and its current wedding materials support celebrations up to 100 guests. The property can also arrange ceremonies at the nearby Abbey of San Galgano or Montesiepi. It is a fundamentally different proposition from Cetinale: much more service and infrastructure, much less of the private-estate house-party model.
