Borgo Stomennano Wedding Guide (2028): Cost, Pricing & Capacity

Borgo Stomennano is a private villa-and-farmhouse hamlet near Monteriggioni, north of Siena. A wedding here can move from a garden ceremony to drinks looking toward the walled village, dinner beneath the trees and a party that moves indoors at midnight. The accommodation gives close family and friends a base for several days, with a more personal, lived-in character than a conventional hotel buyout.

For 2028, three nights from Friday to Monday cost €32,900, including accommodation for 38 people. The wedding reception fee is additional: €3,800–€6,200 for 40–90 guests. At 80 guests, the rental plus reception comes to €39,100, or €41,800 with a welcome event and farewell event attended by more than 40 people each. Those figures include 10% VAT; catering and wedding production are separate budgeting items.

Stomennano is especially appealing when a shared country-house stay matters as much as the reception. The tradeoff is scale: most larger weddings need nearby guest rooms, and the seated capacities of its indoor event spaces are not specified. Its reception pricing reaches 90 guests, but that is not the same as a 90-seat rain plan.

Stomennano’s strongest quality is that the wedding can feel like an extension of a few days spent together, rather than an event everyone arrives for and immediately leaves. The accommodation is divided between a more formal villa and farmhouse apartments. With 38 overnight places in the rental, close family and friends can be part of the whole stay, not just Saturday’s reception.

We particularly like it for around 50–70 wedding guests. That keeps the off-property group relatively manageable while giving the celebration enough scale to justify a private estate.

The flexibility of the stay is useful. Couples can choose three weekend nights, three midweek nights or a shorter two-night midweek stay, rather than committing to a full week. The three-night weekend rental is only €2,800 more than the three-night midweek option. We would weigh that saving against guests’ travel and time off work rather than assume midweek is automatically the better value.

The main limitation is the indoor layout. Stomennano has separate ceremony and cocktail rooms, followed by dinner and dancing in the Granary, but their seated and standing capacities are not specified. That makes the indoor experience particularly important for an 80–90-person wedding. The outdoor setting should not be the only version of the day you like.

The pricing also rewards using the stay well. The estate rental, reception fee and additional-event fees are only the venue portion of the budget. Catering, bar service, design, rentals, entertainment and coordination still need their own allowances. A smaller guest list reduces those costs, but leaves most of the property bill intact.

We would choose Stomennano for the house-party atmosphere, garden setting and shorter stay. We would look elsewhere for a wedding that depends on every guest staying under one roof, a pool-area party continuing outdoors after midnight, or a guest list above 90 without an agreed larger-event arrangement. It is a private hamlet to settle into, not a hotel designed to absorb the entire wedding group.

The 2028 rental rates

These are total rental prices, not nightly rates. The residential options include exclusive use and accommodation for 38 people, with the wedding reception fee charged separately. The weekday location-only option has no overnight stay.

The fee band uses reception attendance, not just guests sleeping elsewhere: the 38 overnight places are not deducted. Welcome dinners, pool gatherings and farewell events

Each extra event with more than 40 attendees costs €1,350 in venue fees. A welcome dinner and a farewell gathering that both exceed that threshold add €2,700. Catering and any extra furniture, staffing or entertainment remain separate.

The threshold is more than 40. Smaller gatherings are outside this published surcharge, but still need agreed catering, space and operating arrangements.

For an 80-person Friday-to-Monday wedding with a welcome event and farewell event, the venue calculation is:

Is the extra night worth it?

Four nights including the weekend cost €6,100 more than the three-night Friday-to-Monday rental. That is the difference between the packages, not a separately bookable nightly rate. For a long-haul family group, the extra breathing room may be more valuable than a fourth organized event. It also creates more meals and guest-hosting costs.

A three-night midweek stay saves €2,800 against three weekend nights. Reducing that midweek stay to two nights saves another €5,200, but makes arrival, preparation, the wedding and departure more compressed. We would choose the two-night version for a simpler itinerary rather than try to force a full weekend’s worth of events into it.

The €16,000 weekday option

You can rent Stomennano without an overnight stay on weekdays for a €16,000 flat location fee. Whether the separate reception fee is added to that amount is unspecified, so €16,000 is the location price rather than a confirmed complete venue total.

This format makes sense for couples who already have a hotel base and mainly want the estate for the wedding. All guests stay elsewhere, and preparation rooms, event access and setup time become more important than they are during a residential booking.

What the rental does, and does not, buy

The residential rate includes the exclusive-use stay for 38 people. Breakfast, daily housekeeping, catering equipment, reception furniture, event cleaning and planning are not included. The reception fee is a venue charge, not a catered meal.

Budget separately for food and drink, event staff, flowers, furniture and tableware, lighting, sound, entertainment, photography, planning and transport unless the proposal expressly includes them. Breakfast and other resident meals also need an arrangement; the model below includes a breakfast allowance.

A three-night weekend with 80 guests

The wedding food-and-drink allowance is €250–€400 per guest and is intended to cover aperitivo, dinner, dessert or cake, wine, defined bar service and event staffing. The €100–€180 per guest for the welcome and farewell gatherings is combined across both events, not per event. Breakfast is modeled at €25–€35 per resident per morning.

Caterers differ in what they include. The production allowance covers equipment not already supplied and any upgrades, rather than counting the same tables, chairs or tableware twice. The planning allowance likewise needs to cover the agreed assistants, event-day presence and any commission or travel charges within its scope.

How guest count changes the budget

The same three-night weekend format, two extra events and breakfast assumptions produce these rounded planning ranges:

All four scenarios use the same 38-person residential stay and assume an agreed event layout at the chosen guest count. The capacity and rain-plan sections explain the limitations for larger groups.

The figures exclude a marquee or substantial weather structure, unpriced venue-mandated supplements, any separately payable tourist tax, off-property guest rooms, flights and airport transfers, attire, rings, honeymoon costs and any refundable damage deposit. Resident lunches and dinners beyond the modeled events are also excluded. A large band, elaborate floral installations or an extended hosted itinerary can move the budget above these ranges.

The most effective savings

Our first budget discussion would be about how many events you genuinely want to host, the production level and which supplier inclusions can be shared across them. A relaxed welcome supper often does more for the weekend than a second fully designed reception.

Wedding size and seated capacity

The reception fee bands run up to 90 guests, and the barn is described as a setting for social events of up to 90. 

Our preferred 50–70-person range balances the private stay with a manageable off-property group. For 80–90 guests, the indoor layout becomes a more significant part of the decision. Above 90, both capacity and pricing fall outside the norm.

The Granary serves both dinner and dancing, while the ceremony and aperitivo have separate indoor settings. How those rooms work together matters as much as their individual size.

The outdoor sequence is one of the property’s real strengths. A ceremony, aperitivo and dinner can feel distinct without becoming three unrelated venues. A long or curved dinner table beneath the trees also makes the setting part of the design, rather than requiring an elaborate structure to create atmosphere.

A fountain-side garden ceremony, a curved outdoor dinner table and a next-day pizza-and-pool gathering have all featured at weddings here. They offer useful ideas for a stay that moves between formal and relaxed moments, with the setting doing much of the work.

The indoor sequence uses the Lemon Trees House for the ceremony, the Ball Room for cocktails, and the Granary for dinner and dancing. Its advantage is the separation between the ceremony, drinks and dining spaces: a wet-weather wedding need not revolve entirely around one room.

The limitation is capacity. For an 80–90-person wedding, a complete indoor layout is therefore central to the booking decision.

The Granary’s dual role matters. Dinner tables, service routes, a bar and entertainment all take space. If a dance floor cannot remain in place during dinner, the evening needs a room changeover and somewhere comfortable for guests during the reset. The ceremony room and Ball Room must also suit the full group, rather than solving dinner while leaving the earlier part of the day cramped.

The move indoors changes the character of the wedding: dinner beneath the trees becomes a more enclosed, historic-interior celebration. We would choose Stomennano only with an indoor arrangement we genuinely liked. Routes between buildings also deserve attention, especially for guests with mobility needs; having indoor rooms does not make the journey between them covered.

The 38-person estate stay

The 2028 residential rental includes accommodation for 38 people, split between the villa and self-contained farmhouse units rather than one main house. Kitchens and shared living areas make some apartments particularly useful for families or small groups who want their own space during the stay.

Families, room choice and accessibility

The villa’s accommodation policy excludes children under 14, while the farmhouse accommodation is described as suitable for families. This is a room-specific age restriction, not an estate-wide adults-only wedding rule.

We would put the couple and a small adult family group in the villa and use the larger farmhouse apartments for people who know one another. Room categories are not interchangeable, even when two allocations use the same number of sleeping places.

Several units have substantial stairs. La Corte and Tata’s Bedroom are on the ground floor, making them worth considering for guests who need to avoid stairs, but neither a ground-floor label nor a room photograph establishes wheelchair accessibility. The useful assessment covers the whole route from bedroom to ceremony, bathroom, dinner and transport pickup.

Breakfast, housekeeping frequency, linen changes and other meals also shape the stay. They need to be included in the accommodation arrangements, rather than assuming the same service pattern as a hotel. Pool supervision and nonresident access are separate considerations for family gatherings.

Nearby places to consider

La Casa della Zia, inside Monteriggioni. This eight-person house is part of Stomennano’s wider hospitality offering, but it is in the walled village, about 2 km from the wedding estate. It has four bedrooms and its own living space and garden. It is a good way to keep one family group together. Treat it as separately priced, off-property accommodation, not eight more on-site beds.

Hotel Il Piccolo Castello. With 50 rooms, this is a practical starting point for a concentrated hotel block close to Monteriggioni. It suits guests who want a hotel, pool and garden setting without making Siena the base for every event. We would allow roughly 10–15 minutes by car to Stomennano.

Borgo San Luigi. A country-hotel alternative with rooms and suites, a pool and restaurant. It is worth considering for guests who want their downtime to feel like a Tuscan resort stay rather than simply a place to sleep after the wedding. Allow roughly 10–20 minutes by car.

Hotel Athena, Siena. Better for guests adding sightseeing and independent meals before or after the celebration. It is inside Siena’s historic walls and has parking and a terrace. The tradeoff is a longer journey to each event, for which we would allow roughly 25–35 minutes.

Food, drinks and supplier choice

Stomennano welcomes couples’ preferred providers and can help with supplier recommendations. That lets you build a team around the wedding rather than buy a fixed catering package, while the team’s operating arrangements still need the estate’s agreement.

The most useful catering comparison is a like-for-like proposal for the whole reception: aperitivo, dinner, dessert or cake, wine, bar duration, staffing, kitchen provision and the equipment included. An attractive per-person menu can leave a large amount of the practical event outside the quote.

For a three-event stay, one caterer may handle all gatherings, or the welcome and farewell meals may use simpler separate services. Compatible furniture and lighting can sometimes serve more than one event. Any reuse of flowers or equipment needs to be included in the design and supplier arrangements.

The estate produces wine, but its wedding terms do not specify a compulsory estate-wine purchase or a corkage and outside-alcohol policy. Nor do they identify a compulsory planner or caterer. Recommended suppliers and required appointments should be distinguished in the proposal.

We would still budget for a professional planner and on-site coordination. A wedding moving between several buildings and events needs one team managing the running order, weather decision, room changes and return transport, rather than leaving those jobs to the family.

Midnight is the outdoor turning point

The outdoor pool-area party runs until midnight, then moves indoors to the Granary. The final indoor music cutoff varies and is agreed upon with the venue. 

That makes the transition a design choice, not just a noise rule. A band finishing outside and a DJ beginning indoors can feel like a deliberate second chapter to the night. Waiting until midnight to start moving equipment is much less appealing. The entertainment and bar teams should price the actual two-space plan.

The indoor finish time, sound restrictions and staffing hours need an agreement before a late-night set is booked. Return transport should include an earlier departure as well as the final agreed finish.

Symbolic ceremony on the estate

A symbolic ceremony is the most straightforward way to make the Italian garden the center of the wedding day, with the Lemon Trees House as the named indoor alternative. It allows the personal ceremony and reception to remain in one place without making the estate booking depend on civil-registration arrangements.

Legally binding civil marriage

A legally binding civil ceremony at Stomennano is not confirmed. The garden ceremony option is symbolic, and does not by itself establish civil-marriage authorization.

Monteriggioni has municipal alternatives: the Sala Dante Alighieri, with approximately 40 seated places; municipal gardens listed for 25–80; and the Sala Ildebrando at Abbadia Isola, with approximately 100 seated places. These are separate locations, not rooms at Stomennano.

For a legal Italian ceremony, the Comune should establish the authorized location, registrar, paperwork and fees for the couple’s circumstances. Couples who prefer to avoid that extra event-day movement can complete the legal marriage separately and hold their personal ceremony at the estate.

Stomennano is near Monteriggioni, north of Siena. Florence is the natural first airport to investigate, with Pisa and Rome useful alternatives depending on guests’ journeys. The countryside location makes a booked final transfer much more useful than relying on everyone to find their own ride on arrival.

The station called Castellina in Chianti–Monteriggioni is in Castellina Scalo, not inside the walled village. Guests arriving there still need a car transfer. Regional buses also serve the Monteriggioni area, but they are not a substitute for a scheduled late-night wedding shuttle.

For the wedding itself, our preference is one or two accommodation hubs and prearranged returns. With a substantial off-property group, transport shapes the evening, particularly when the party moves indoors at midnight and guests want to leave at different times.

Full-size coach access and turning space are not specified. The venue and transport operator therefore need to agree vehicle size and loading points. A nearby hotel with an easy pickup can be a better choice than a more picturesque address reached only by several separate vans.

Guests who are attending only the hosted events can manage without rental cars when transfers are organized. Guests exploring the countryside independently may value one. For the wedding night, we would not build the plan around walking back to Monteriggioni or finding taxis on demand.

Our first choices would be late May, June or September. Stomennano’s outdoor dinner setting is a major reason to book, and those months offer a useful balance of warmth and outdoor comfort.

These are long-term regional averages, not a forecast for the estate or a probability of rain on a wedding day.

Late May and June are our preferred balance for a garden-centered celebration. June is warmer and drier on average than May, but a later-afternoon ceremony is still more comfortable than asking guests to sit outside during the hottest part of the day.

September is a strong alternative for couples who prefer less midsummer heat. It is not reliably dry, and dinner and photography timings need to reflect the shorter evening. October places more weight on the indoor setting, and there is no published rental discount to offset that tradeoff automatically.

July and August call for shade, water, a later ceremony and somewhere comfortable to retreat before dinner. Guest-bedroom air conditioning does not establish cooling in every event room, so summer comfort depends on the event spaces as well as the bedrooms.

A three-night Friday-to-Monday format

This is how we would use the stay, with meals, timings and spaces agreed as part of the event arrangements rather than treated as an included package.

Friday: arrive and settle in. Give the resident group time to find their rooms before a welcome supper. It can be a relaxed introduction to the estate rather than another formal reception. A welcome gathering for more than 40 people carries the €1,350 additional-event fee.

Saturday: ceremony and reception. Keep the early part of the day comparatively free. A garden ceremony, terrace aperitivo and dinner beneath the trees make the most of the setting, followed by the move from the pool-area party to the Granary at midnight.

Sunday: one easy gathering. A lunch or pizza-style event gives everyone a chance to reconnect without recreating the wedding’s formality. With more than 40 attendees, allow the second €1,350 event fee. Swimming, nonresident pool access and any safety requirements need their own arrangements.

Monday: breakfast and departure. Keep this morning for breakfast, packing and departure within the contracted checkout time, with supplier collections arranged separately. Sunday is the more natural place for the main farewell gathering.

For 80 attendees at both additional gatherings, the venue part of this itinerary is the €41,800 worked example above, before catering and production.

When the midweek options make sense

A Monday-to-Thursday stay can use the same rhythm: arrival, wedding, relaxed gathering, departure. The venue saving is €2,800 against the three-night weekend. The two-night midweek option is better for a pared-back celebration with fewer hosted meals and simpler production.

We would avoid filling every spare hour with activities. Monteriggioni and Siena provide reasons to extend the trip, while the appeal of staying at Stomennano is also having time to enjoy the property without following a constant timetable.

How will our wedding work indoors and late at night? The room plans should show the full group through ceremony, drinks, dinner and dancing, including any Granary changeover and the final indoor finish time.

Where will everyone stay, and what service is included? A complete rooming list should identify all 38 places, suitable family allocations and access for anyone with mobility needs, alongside breakfast, housekeeping and other meals.

What is the full commitment? The agreement should separate rental, reception and extra-event fees from other charges, with payment, cancellation and damage-security terms. For a weekday event-only booking, the important pricing question is whether the reception surcharge is included in or added to the €16,000 location fee.

Villa La Selva: a larger resident group

Villa La Selva is worth comparing when the main priority is keeping more of the wedding together on a wine estate. It offers accommodation for up to 50 guests, with breakfast and daily room cleaning. That gives a larger resident group a more bundled stay, while Stomennano’s shorter midweek options may suit a simpler itinerary.

The useful comparison is the whole package: rooms, resident services and event fees, not just the starting rental.

Villa Cetinale: a formal historic-garden estate

Cetinale is the more formal historic-garden comparison, with a 100-person wedding maximum and 48 sleeping places across four houses. It offers a larger resident group and a different architectural setting, while retaining the private-estate character that makes Stomennano appealing.

It is worth comparing for the gardens and stay, not simply the larger wedding number. Its rental structure and indoor arrangements need to suit the same guest list.

Borgo San Luigi: a hotel-based stay near Monteriggioni

Borgo San Luigi offers a different hospitality model, with hotel rooms, a restaurant and a wedding operation in a countryside setting. It is worth considering when guest independence and hotel services matter more than the feeling of renting a private hamlet.

The choice is between hotel services and a private-house stay. A room block and exclusive use are separate arrangements at a hotel, so compare the actual privacy and accommodation offered for the wedding dates.
