Tenuta di Artimino combines a monumental Medici villa with a hotel, village lodgings and farmhouse accommodation. The wedding centres on Villa La Ferdinanda, with its long pale façade, sweeping exterior staircase and hilltop gardens. Guests stay in the surrounding estate accommodation, so the formal villa reception can be part of a more relaxed few days in the Tuscan countryside.

The distinction matters when you price it. The villa rental is an event-space booking, not an accommodation buyout. High-season hire ranges from €8,000 on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday to €16,000 on Saturday, before tax. Catering, the guest stay and most wedding production sit alongside that rental. The accommodation offer starts at €360 per double-occupancy unit per night, including VAT, with a two-night minimum.

Artimino also has substantial indoor halls. Salone del Leone has a 200-seat banquet planning figure, although a wedding layout with entertainment and a dance floor may seat fewer. Our preferred range is about 100–150 guests, especially for couples who want a villa reception with a sense of scale and the possibility of keeping much of the guest list close by.

Artimino is most convincing as a grand villa wedding with a hotel-supported weekend around it. La Ferdinanda provides the occasion; the Paggeria hotel, village lodgings, restaurant and estate experiences give guests somewhere to settle before and after the reception. That is a different proposition from renting a private house for a small resident group or hiring a wedding venue where almost everyone has to stay elsewhere.

The visual appeal is quite specific. This is a broad, formal Medici villa on a hill, not a small stone farmhouse hidden in a vineyard. Its staircase, long sightlines and substantial interiors suit a reception with a sense of scale. We would let the building do much of the work: a considered table layout, good lighting and a few strong floral decisions are more convincing here than trying to fill every space with decoration.

Our preferred guest list is around 100–150. At that size, there is more scope to choose between indoor settings and separate dinner from other parts of the celebration. At 180–200, the approved indoor layout becomes a deciding factor, especially with a live band or a permanent dance floor. The larger banquet figures should not be the reason to stretch a guest list.

The accommodation is a meaningful advantage, but it is spread across the estate. Some village and farmhouse categories are around 400 metres from the hotel. That suits guests who enjoy an apartment-style or village stay; it is less convenient for someone with limited mobility, a pushchair or a late-night walk in formal shoes. A well-chosen room block matters more here than simply telling everyone to book “Artimino.”

The pricing model gives couples a useful choice: pay for the wedding setting, then decide how much of the guest stay to host. It does not require treating the villa fee as though it includes bedrooms. The strongest saving within the villa tariff is the day of the week: Saturday costs €8,000 more before tax than Monday–Wednesday. For guests already travelling to Tuscany, that difference can be more useful than trimming smaller decorative costs, unless the change means funding another night of rooms.

We would shortlist Artimino for a substantial Tuscan wedding where the guest stay matters, but a completely private estate does not. We would look elsewhere for an intimate household-style retreat or a party built around dancing until 3 or 4 a.m. The standard music finish is 1 a.m. For a small group drawn to Artimino itself, the Biagio Pignatta restaurant setting may make more sense than hiring La Ferdinanda at its full scale.

The villa rental

The high-season tariff for Villa La Ferdinanda is:

The weekday difference is substantial. On Saturday, rental alone is equivalent to €160 per guest for 100 people. On Monday–Wednesday it is €80 per guest. That is a comparison of the fixed venue charge, not a per-person package.

What the rental includes

The rental includes the selected spaces, cleaning before and after the event, the bar hall with Chester sofas, heating, air conditioning and unguarded private parking. The bar hall is a room, not an included open bar. Drinks, bartenders and the service itself belong in the catering proposal.

The location is reserved for exclusive use, with no second wedding at the same time. The scope is the contracted event location and selected spaces. Reserving La Ferdinanda does not, by itself, reserve every hotel room, close the restaurants or make the entire village private.

What sits outside the rental

The main additional costs are wedding catering and drinks, ceremony setup, accommodation, planning, photography, video, flowers, furniture and tabletop upgrades, lighting, sound, entertainment and transport.

Kitchen use and several event services are arranged separately: security, bathroom cleaning during the celebration, valet parking, a staffed cloakroom and babysitting. An extra day for setup or dismantling is also separate. These costs depend on the event: a substantial installation arriving the day before needs a different access arrangement from a dinner set up within the standard wedding-day window.

A welcome dinner or farewell brunch is not automatically part of the wedding-day rental. Those gatherings should be priced as their own events, with the food, location and nonresident attendance covered together.

Ceremony setup and larger guest lists

A 100-person setup with chairs and a ceremony table costs €800 before tax. Flowers and legal charges are additional. The larger-setup tariff is €3 per chair, but the booking needs to establish whether that rate applies only to seats above the first 100 and how it combines with the base charge.

For a 100-person wedding, rental plus that setup comes to €8,800 before tax on Monday–Wednesday or €16,800 before tax on Saturday. Neither figure includes the reception meal, accommodation or municipal civil-ceremony fee.

Choosing a caterer outside the partner list

A non-listed caterer needs management approval. Once approved, the charge is €1,000 plus VAT, together with either use of the internal kitchen or utilities for an external kitchen.

The kitchen and utilities lines expressly carry 22% VAT, taking those components to €732 and €427 respectively. VAT is also additional on the approval charge, at the rate applied in the contract. These are venue-access costs, not the caterer’s food-and-service bill. The two kitchen options are alternatives, not charges to add together.

Payments and booking terms

The first deposit is 40% of the total contracted amount on signature. For scale, 40% of the Saturday rental alone is €6,400 before considering taxes and other contracted items; the actual first payment is calculated on the agreement, not simply on that rental line.

A second deposit is referenced within 90 days of the event and the final balance within 10 days.

A 100-guest high-season Saturday

A working budget for the wedding day below is approximately €82,000–€142,000 before applicable taxes and accommodation.

The model includes the €16,000 Saturday rental, the €800 setup for a 100-person civil ceremony, a professionally catered reception, a DJ-led party with a modest live-music element, wedding planning and local shuttles. It assumes the wedding can use an agreed indoor rain plan without a substantial marquee build.

The €230–€380 food-and-drink allowance covers the aperitivo, dinner, dessert or cake, wine, a defined bar service and event staffing, rather than dinner alone. Basic furniture or tableware included by the caterer should not be counted again in the rentals budget.

Excluded: accommodation; welcome and farewell events; a marquee or substantial weather-protection build; extra-day space hire; separately required kitchen, non-partner caterer or venue-service charges; overtime; municipal ceremony fees and legal paperwork; flights; wedding attire and rings. Tax must be added to each taxable line using its applicable treatment, rather than applying one assumed VAT rate to the entire wedding.

A large live band, elaborate florals, a custom tented reception or several hosted days can take spending above this range. A simpler midweek celebration can reduce it without giving up the villa setting.

What changes the total most?

The day of the week. Keeping every other line of this model unchanged, Monday–Wednesday reduces the calculated wedding-day total to €73,700–€133,650 before applicable taxes and the same exclusions. Thursday or Sunday gives €74,700–€134,650; Friday gives €78,700–€138,650. These are arithmetic comparisons, not promises that every supplier will charge the same on every date.

The guest list. Reducing 100 guests to 80 saves €4,600–€7,600 on the model’s food-and-drink line alone, before tax. Other variable costs may fall, but the venue rental stays the same. A smaller guest list therefore does not reduce the total in direct proportion to attendance.

Extra celebrations. For 100 people, we would initially allow €11,000–€18,000 before tax for welcome and farewell catering combined, equivalent to €110–€180 per guest across both events. With a separate 10% contingency on those allowances, the wedding-day model becomes €93,800–€161,450 before applicable taxes, accommodation and additional space or production charges. This assumes relatively relaxed gatherings, not two more fully styled weddings.

Who pays for rooms. At the €360 double-occupancy starting rate, 50 units for two nights would calculate to €36,000 including VAT, before tourist tax. This illustrates the starting-rate cost for 100 people sharing two per unit, not a quoted room block. The available mix of hotel rooms, apartments and suites will determine the actual accommodation bill.

We would settle the room-payment approach early. Couples who pay for every guest’s stay are making a substantially different financial commitment from couples who reserve a block and let guests book and pay individually.

Indoor dinner capacity

The room-specific banquet planning figures are 200 seated in Salone del Leone, 180 in Salone dell’Orso and 180 in Salone degli Armigeri. These are separate halls, not one continuous dining room.

The figures describe banquet seating, not approved wedding layouts with a stage, bars and a dance floor. Seating in the gardens and restaurant depends on the chosen arrangement; neither has a confirmed seated maximum to use here.

La Ferdinanda’s indoor halls are a real part of its appeal, not simply somewhere to shelter. Their historic interiors offer a very different reception from the gardens, but one that can still feel like the wedding you came to Tuscany for. Heating and air conditioning are included in the contracted rental.

For 100–150 guests, our preferred arrangement would be to keep one suitable hall ready for dinner and use another contracted area for the ceremony and aperitivo. That avoids turning the ceremony space into a dining room while guests wait. The combination of rooms needs to be part of the booking; the villa rental covers the selected spaces, not every possible arrangement.

This is a suggested sequence, not a confirmed room allocation. The key question is whether the spaces can work at the same time. If ceremony, dinner and dancing share a hall, the running order needs to accommodate the reset and give guests somewhere comfortable to go during it. An outdoor dinner also needs a prepared indoor alternative, rather than a plan to move every table once rain starts.

Is a marquee necessary?

Not necessarily. A wedding that fits its approved indoor arrangement can use the villa’s rooms. A marquee becomes more relevant when the guest count, dinner design or preference for the outdoor setting does not fit that arrangement.

Tented receptions have taken place at Artimino, but permission and installation requirements must be agreed for the proposed event. The separate cost includes the structure, floor, lighting, power, sidewalls, installation and removal, together with any extra access day.

For a large outdoor wedding, the covered alternative belongs in the initial budget. For a smaller one, the better choice may be an indoor dinner you genuinely like, keeping the gardens for those parts of the day the weather allows.

A hotel, a village and farmhouse lodgings

Artimino’s hospitality operation comprises 101 accommodation units, with the 36-room Paggeria Medicea hotel forming one part of that total. The remaining stay experience is distributed across village and farmhouse lodgings, with room types ranging from studios to larger apartments and suites. La Ferdinanda is the wedding building; the guest stay is arranged in the surrounding hospitality accommodation.

How many of your guests can stay depends on the units reserved and their adult and child occupancies. A studio, a double room and a two-bedroom apartment serve different groups. The room allocation, rather than the estate’s unit count alone, determines whether everyone can stay here.

The approximately 400-metre distance applies to particular categories; routes vary by building. For families or adults sharing an apartment, the bed types, sofa-bed use and bathroom arrangement are as important as the number of bedrooms.

What guests should budget for the stay

The accommodation offer starts at €360 per double-occupancy unit per night including VAT, with a minimum of two nights. Buffet breakfast, pool access, unguarded parking and Wi-Fi are included in that offer.

For two adults sharing at that starting rate, two nights cost €720 before tourist tax. At the four-star hotel’s municipal rate of €2 per chargeable person per night, the total becomes €728, or €364 per person sharing for the two-night stay. Three nights would be €1,092 for the pair, including €12 tourist tax. These are starting-rate calculations, not an average price across suites and apartments.

Carmignano’s tourist tax is capped at three consecutive nights in the same accommodation. Different registered accommodation categories can carry different rates, so village and farmhouse charges depend on the unit booked.

Hotel check-in is from 3 p.m., with checkout before 11 a.m. We would arrange a separate room-night or preparation arrangement if the couple need guaranteed wedding-morning access before normal check-in.

Keeping the group together

For a 100-person guest list sharing two per unit, the simple room-count requirement is 50 units. For 150 people on the same assumption, it is 75 units. Singles, children, multi-bedroom apartments and different arrival dates change those numbers.

Start with the people who need the easiest routes, not with a hierarchy of room categories. Give guests a named building, a breakfast location and a pickup point. That small amount of detail makes a spread-out stay much easier to navigate, particularly on the wedding day.

A property buyout and a wedding room block are different products. The agreement should identify any required room commitment, the rooms held, guest booking deadlines, who pays for unbooked rooms and which shared facilities remain open to other guests. That is especially important when privacy across the weekend matters as much as privacy during the reception.

Nearby accommodation alternatives

Hotel Villa San Michele, Carmignano. A smaller boutique option in Carmignano’s central square, with the separate Al 21 accommodation nearby. This suits a modest overflow group that would rather stay in a town setting than commute from Florence. We would allow approximately 15–25 minutes by car as a planning estimate. This is the Carmignano hotel, not the similarly named Belmond property in Fiesole.

Hotel Granducato, Montelupo Fiorentino. A practical 19-room hotel close to the railway station and town restaurants. It offers a different price-and-convenience proposition from a countryside resort and works for a small group arriving by train. Allow approximately 15–25 minutes by car to Artimino.

Hotel Da Vinci, Sovigliana near Empoli. With 69 rooms, private parking and a restaurant, this is a useful candidate for a substantial overflow block. It is an option for keeping guests together and simplifying transfers, rather than recreating the countryside-estate stay. Allow approximately 25–35 minutes by car.

Florence. A sensible base for guests combining the wedding with city sightseeing, especially before or after the main celebration. It is less appealing as the only base for a multi-event weekend at Artimino because each gathering means another transfer. Allow approximately 40–60 minutes from the historic centre, plus group loading and hotel-access time.

Catering is a separate wedding decision

Artimino works with a substantial catering partner list rather than including one fixed wedding menu in the villa rental. Partners include Roland’s Social & Business Catering, Galateo Ricevimenti, Delizia Ricevimenti and Bachini & Bellini Ricevimenti, alongside several other established operators. A caterer outside the list requires approval and the additional access charges explained in the pricing section.

Compare caterers on the full service, not just the food price: aperitivo, courses, cake, drinks, bar hours, staff, basic tables and chairs, linens, tableware, kitchen use, delivery and removal. A lower menu price can stop being cheaper once equipment and staffing are added.

The estate’s wine and olive oil provide a connection to the setting, both at the table and as gifts. Wine tastings, private-sommelier experiences and personalized labels are among the estate’s offerings. Wine selection, any required estate-wine purchase, outside alcohol and corkage still need to be settled in the catering agreement.

A planner is useful for the whole weekend

We would budget for an experienced planner and a clearly defined wedding-day coordination team. Artimino’s event contact manages the venue relationship, but a celebration involving guest blocks, external catering, production and multiple days needs someone responsible for the couple’s complete plan.

The most valuable role is bringing the whole weekend together: the ceremony, any room changes, the weather decision, guest transfers and the end of the night. For a cultural or multi-day wedding, each gathering also needs its own place in the plan.

The standard music cutoff is 1 a.m.

For an evening wedding, the villa is available from noon until 1:30 a.m., with music ending at 1 a.m. We would use the final half-hour for goodbyes and departures. A daytime booking runs from 8 a.m. until 9:30 p.m., with music ending at 9 p.m.

Time extensions cost €500 per hour before tax, subject to agreement. A later music finish needs separate approval: paying for more venue access does not automatically extend the party. The late-night quote should cover music, bar service and staffing together.

Civil ceremonies at the villa

A legally binding civil ceremony can take place at La Ferdinanda. The Comune di Carmignano lists the villa as an authorized external civil-ceremony location, and the venue offers ceremonies in its garden or halls. The venue and registrar arrange the specific space, date and time together.

The €800 setup charge for 100 guests, before tax, is separate from the municipality’s fee. For couples who are both nonresidents, the municipality’s 2021 fee schedule lists the following charges for an authorized external location:

• Outside service hours on weekdays, including Saturday: €500
• Sunday or public holiday outside service hours: €650

The payment notice for the booked ceremony establishes the amount due. Translation, interpretation, document legalization and any consular requirements are separate from both the municipal fee and the venue’s chairs-and-table setup.

For foreign couples, the paperwork depends on nationality and circumstances. Carmignano’s civil registry sets the required documents and interpretation arrangements. This is worth starting early in the planning process, particularly after a previous marriage or where documents must be obtained and legalized abroad.

Symbolic ceremonies

A symbolic ceremony gives more freedom over the script, celebrant and timing, with the legal marriage completed separately. The garden and villa spaces can host this type of celebration. For couples primarily interested in the setting rather than Italian legal formalities, it is often the simpler route.

Religious and cultural ceremonies

Nearby options for a church wedding include Santi Maria e Leonardo in Artimino and San Martino in Campo. The church booking and religious permissions are separate from hiring the villa, with the journey between ceremony and reception built into the day.

Artimino also has experience with multi-day Indian celebrations. That is useful for couples planning several rituals and gatherings in one place. The proposal needs to accommodate the particular celebration, including specialist catering, ceremony structures, sound and any flame-based ritual requiring specific permission.

Access and mobility

La Ferdinanda’s staircase and the spread of the accommodation make mobility an important part of the room and event plan. For a guest with limited mobility, a conveniently placed room can matter more than a larger suite elsewhere. Review their route from drop-off through the ceremony, reception and bathrooms to their accommodation; step-free access throughout those routes has not been established.

Setup, breakdown and heritage-sensitive production

Standard evening access begins at noon, while an extra setup or dismantling day is a separately arranged service. A substantial floral installation, lighting rig or marquee may need more time than the wedding-day window provides. The installation schedule and the space-hire schedule therefore belong in the same budget.

Temporary structures, candles and special effects need a specific agreement on what is permitted. Resolve that alongside the installation schedule, especially when a design requires extra access time or work around the villa’s historic fabric.

Children, shared facilities and pets

The accommodation mix can work well for families, and babysitting is available as an arranged service. Pool access belongs to the accommodation offer, but a private pool party, nonresident pool access and supervised childcare are different arrangements.

The hotel is dog-friendly. Include the chosen room and any role for a dog in the ceremony in the booking arrangements, since event-area access needs to be agreed separately.

Tenuta di Artimino is in Carmignano, in the province of Prato, rather than Florence city. Florence is the natural arrival hub, but guests still need a road transfer for the final part of the journey. The venue address is Viale Papa Giovanni XXIII, 1, 59015 Artimino, Carmignano.

Allow extra time for luggage, group loading, traffic and the precise pickup address. Montelupo-Capraia and Signa are useful rail arrival options, followed by a pre-booked car or shuttle to the estate.

For the wedding, concentrate off-property guests into one or two pickup hubs. We would offer an earlier return for families and a final departure aligned with the 1 a.m. music finish and 1:30 a.m. venue close. The venue and transport operator should agree vehicle size, turning space and loading points before the shuttles are booked.

Our first choices would be late May, June or September. They make good use of the gardens and countryside while avoiding July and August’s higher average temperatures.
