Villa Le Fontanelle sits in the Careggi hills above Florence, with gardens, a small chapel, a distinctive tower and terraces looking toward the city. It operates as a four-star boutique hotel rather than a wholly private estate. The appeal is the combination: a Tuscan villa setting for the wedding, a small group staying in its seven rooms, and Florence close enough to be the main base for everyone else.

For 2028, venue packages run from €6,600 to €33,000, including VAT, applying the venue’s 10% increase to its 2026–2027 prices. Weekdays offer event-only bookings or one-, two- and three-night stays. The three-night weekend package is €17,600–€19,250 in low season or €31,350–€33,000 in high season. Catering, drinks and wedding production are additional.

The salon seats up to 70 guests, while the seven rooms include 14 standard overnight places. Packages extend to a 140-person guest band, with larger weddings needing a separate covered plan. The owners live on-site, and Citrarium restaurant operates separately from the wedding rental.

We would shortlist Villa Le Fontanelle for a Florence wedding with a villa setting, rather than for a secluded house-party weekend where everyone stays together.

Guests can spend their free time in Florence, come up to the villa for the celebration, then return to their city hotel. The couple and a small family or wedding-party group can stay on-site. The terraces and gardens give the wedding a setting of its own without making the whole trip revolve around a remote estate.

The weekday packages are a particular strength. Bronze suits couples who already have accommodation in Florence and want the villa for the wedding day. Silver adds one night in all seven rooms. Both offer a much lower starting cost than the high-season Diamond weekend, while leaving more of the surrounding trip in the city.

Our favorite version is around 40–60 guests. A garden ceremony, drinks overlooking Florence and dinner beneath the pergola would make good use of the setting. This size also fits the usual in-house catering offer and stays below the salon’s 70-seat maximum, leaving more flexibility for the indoor layout. The resident group forms a small inner circle rather than accommodating the whole wedding.

Privacy is the main compromise. The owners remain in their home and retain access to common areas; restaurant closure and exclusive pool use are separate arrangements. This is a boutique-hotel wedding, not a completely secluded estate rental.

Larger weddings also change the economics. The venue rate rises only modestly between guest bands, but above 70 a marquee is required for bad weather or winter. The structure, flooring and installation can add far more than the difference between two rental tiers, so the larger-event layout matters as much as the package price.

Music outside stops at 10:30 p.m., even though the event window runs until 1 a.m. Dinner followed by an indoor party can work well; dancing outdoors into the early hours is not part of the offer.

For the right couple, Le Fontanelle has a clear identity: an intimate hotel, a highly recognizable Florence backdrop and a flexible weekday route into a villa wedding. Its strongest version is personal and relatively compact, with the city doing much of the work for guest accommodation and the rest of the trip.

Understand the five packages first

The five packages combine wedding event access with different lengths of stay. Each includes the event-space fee for the wedding date, from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. Silver through Diamond also include seven rooms for 14 standard occupants and breakfast during the stay. Catering, bar service and Citrarium restaurant use are separate.

These are total package prices, not nightly rates. Friday–Sunday identifies the Diamond weekend tariff; the exact arrival and departure dates for its three-night stay are agreed in the reservation.

Where the price differences really come from

For 60 guests in high season in 2028, the venue totals are €13,200 for Bronze, €16,500 for Silver, €24,750 for Gold, €29,150 for Platinum and €32,450 for Diamond. That is a meaningful spread before catering changes at all.

In 2028, choosing three-night Diamond instead of three-night Platinum costs €3,300 more in high season or €2,200 more in low season. This isolates the weekend premium. The larger saving between Silver and Diamond also reflects two fewer nights of accommodation.

The 2028 high-season jump from Silver to Gold is particularly noticeable: €8,250 for the change from a one-night to a two-night package. Moving from Gold to Platinum then adds €4,400. Those are package differences, not standalone room-night prices. They are a reason to price the actual itinerary rather than multiply an assumed nightly rate.

Season matters even more. A 100-person Diamond package in 2028 is €33,000 in high season and €19,250 in low season, a difference of €13,750. April can therefore be financially interesting. October does not offer the same rental saving, and a cooler-month wedding may require more weather-related production.

The venue package

The rental includes the wedding event-space fee during the specified window. Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond add the stated stay in all seven rooms for 14 standard occupants. Daily breakfast is included, served from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Extra sofa-bed occupancy is charged separately. Bronze includes neither overnight accommodation nor use of the hotel rooms.

Welcome dinners, farewell gatherings, private pool arrangements and restaurant use are additional services, rather than part of a fully hosted weekend.

The wedding itself

The venue package does not include catering, drinks, decorations, flowers, music or lighting. Budget separately for those services, as well as wedding staff, planning, photography and video, furniture and tabletop requirements, sound and guest transportation.

The food-and-beverage proposal should cover the reception meal, drinks, bar duration, staffing and any equipment supplied by the villa or its approved caterer. This gives you a complete catering figure to compare alongside the venue package.

Privacy, additional events and the restaurant

Citrarium is not included in the hotel rental. Reserving it for a private meal, keeping it closed to outside customers or holding it as a rain alternative requires a separate arrangement. Exclusive use of the swimming pool also requires a separate quote. The owners and their families otherwise retain access to shared areas, including the gardens and pool.

A longer stay gives you more time at the villa, but how much of it is private depends on the arrangements you choose. A consolidated proposal covering the wedding, additional meals, nonresident attendance and any restaurant or pool exclusivity is the most useful basis for comparing packages.

Payments and cancellation

The payment schedule is 40% when booking, with the signed contract; 40% six months before the event; and the remaining 20% no later than two months before. Deposits are non-refundable. Review the full cancellation, postponement and damage terms before that first payment.

Applying that schedule to the €33,000 high-season Diamond package for 100 guests in 2028 gives installments of €13,200, €13,200 and €6,600. The signed reservation sets the payment dates and base, including any additional contracted services. Bookings within six months of the event need an agreed schedule for the earlier installments.

A three-night high-season weekend in 2028

This 2028 model uses the high-season Diamond package: three nights, standard accommodation for 14 people, and one wedding day with a symbolic ceremony, professional suppliers and local wedding-day shuttles. It does not include a fully hosted three-day program.

The €240–€360 per guest food-and-drink allowance covers aperitivo, dinner, dessert or cake, wine, a defined bar service and event staffing. When replacing it with a catering quote, deduct any included furniture or tableware from the separate production allowance so the same items are not counted twice.

The marquee allowance covers a temporary structure, weather-related flooring, delivery, installation and associated basic services. Decorative wedding production is separate. The final specification, ground conditions and permitted installation may take the weather cost above €20,000.

Supplier allowances are intended as tax-inclusive working budgets, and the venue package already includes VAT. 

What the ranges do not cover

Excluded are off-property guest rooms, travel to Italy, airport transfers, attire, rings, honeymoon, tourism tax, extra beds, separately charged restaurant or pool privacy, additional event-space fees, legal civil-ceremony charges and meals or drinks outside the wedding day and included resident breakfast. They also exclude extraordinary production such as a large touring band or elaborate special effects.

For welcome and farewell catering together, an additional €100–€180 per attendee across both events combined is a reasonable RoamRecs starting allowance. At 100 attendees, that is €10,000–€18,000 before any extra location charges, production or transportation. A small dinner for the 14 residents is a different proposal from welcoming all 100 wedding guests back to the villa.

Two useful alternatives

For 60 guests in 2028, using the €16,500 high-season Silver package instead of the €32,450 Diamond package reduces the modeled total by €15,950, to €62,920–€102,410. This buys a one-night weekday version of the wedding, rather than three nights over a weekend. The shorter stay also changes accommodation and wedding-morning preparation arrangements.

For 100 guests, changing only the 2028 Diamond package from high to low season reduces the venue line by €13,750, giving a calculated model of €94,050–€156,750. This is a package comparison, not a promise that winter production costs the same. Heating and a different covered layout may change the other costs.

Plan around 70 seated indoors

The indoor salon seats a maximum of 70 guests. The package price bands extend to 140 guests, but the seated capacity of a larger outdoor reception needs to be agreed for the chosen layout.

Within the salon, tables, service space, a band or DJ and any dance floor all share the same room. A design that keeps a dance floor in place throughout dinner may therefore seat fewer than 70.

The property is arranged across different levels, with the pool higher up and Citrarium below the main villa areas. The route between spaces is an important part of choosing the wedding layout, especially for guests who find steps difficult.

A layout that uses the setting well

A natural outdoor sequence is a garden ceremony, drinks with a Florence view, and dinner beneath the pergola or in another approved outdoor reception area. Long-table dining overlooking the city is an established arrangement here. A church ceremony followed by a villa reception is another workable format.

We would keep the guest route relatively compact rather than use every corner of the property. Ceremony, drinks and dinner should flow naturally, with manageable distances and level changes for older relatives and guests with mobility needs.

The main distinction is guest count: the salon seats up to 70, while larger groups require a marquee for bad weather or winter weddings. The ceremony, drinks and dancing need to work alongside the dinner arrangement.

For approximately 40–60 guests

For a wedding of around 40–60, the salon offers a credible indoor dinner option. The ceremony and aperitivo arrangements still need to be agreed for your group, particularly if dinner tables will already be set when guests arrive.

A room changeover may be part of the day. What matters to guests is having a comfortable covered place for drinks while the room is reset, and a clear transition from dinner to dancing. The pergola’s greenery and draping should not be relied on as rain protection.

For 61–70 guests

Near the salon’s 70-seat limit, table shape, service routes and the band or DJ position become more consequential. An agreed drawing will show whether everyone fits comfortably and whether tables need to move before dancing begins. The practical capacity may be lower than 70.

For more than 70 guests

For more than 70 guests, include weather protection in the initial venue budget. The marquee needs to accommodate the seated reception and allow guests to move comfortably between spaces. Depending on the layout, the ceremony or drinks may need another covered area as well. Its location and installation arrangements should be settled early.

A marquee changes the experience as well as the price. Florence views and the gardens are a large part of Le Fontanelle’s appeal, so the covered arrangement should be one you would enjoy using, with a position and appearance that work with the setting.

Can Citrarium be the backup?

Citrarium can form part of the rain plan through a separate advance reservation and a layout agreed for the group. Private use, closure and a Plan B hold are separately priced arrangements, and the restaurant is not guaranteed to be available without a booking. For a larger wedding, using it instead of the required marquee needs the venue’s explicit approval for the whole day.

Seven rooms, 14 standard guests

The residential packages include seven rooms with standard accommodation for 14 people. The rooms have individual layouts rather than a uniform hotel-room format, with air conditioning, a minibar, kettle, coffee-pod machine and private bathroom facilities. Breakfast is included from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.

The room configurations add up to 25 possible occupants: five 2+2 rooms, one 2+1 room and one double. The 14 standard places are included in the stay packages; the additional 11 sofa-bed places cost extra and depend on approval of the adult-and-child rooming list. We would allocate the standard doubles first and use the sofa beds selectively, rather than treat all 25 places as equivalent accommodation.

Pool, Tower, Colombaia and Fortress have internal stairs affecting a sleeping area or bathroom. For guests with mobility needs, room selection should take account of those stairs and the route between the bedroom and wedding spaces.

Preparation time and the one-night package

Standard check-in is 3 p.m., and checkout is by 10:30 a.m. Early arrivals can use common areas, but wedding preparations need actual bedroom access for hair, makeup, dressing and photography.

When a Silver stay begins on the wedding day, arrange earlier room access or prepare elsewhere. A two-night Gold booking beginning the day before may make the morning easier, which is a practical benefit to weigh against its higher price. Bronze includes no hotel-room use.

Nearby hotel options

Hotel Raffaello, Careggi/Rifredi. The practical nearby choice for concentrating a larger group. Its 140-room scale and location on Viale Morgagni make it worth considering when straightforward accommodation and shorter transfers matter more than staying in Florence’s historic center. Allow roughly 10–20 minutes by road to Le Fontanelle as a RoamRecs planning estimate.

Grand Hotel Baglioni, central Florence. A stronger option for guests who want the wedding trip to double as a city break. The 187-room hotel is close to Santa Maria Novella station and has a rooftop restaurant. Allow approximately 25–40 minutes to the villa, with the exact group pickup point agreed before the room block is finalized.

Villa Cora, south Florence. The higher-end hotel choice for a smaller group seeking a destination stay of its own, with 43 rooms and suites, a pool, spa and historic interiors. It is across the city from Careggi, not the nearest overflow hotel. Allow roughly 35–50 minutes and organize its transfer separately if most guests are based elsewhere.

For most weddings here, we would choose one main city hotel or two clear accommodation hubs rather than scatter guests among small rentals. That keeps the Florence stay enjoyable and the wedding pickups straightforward. The road times above are RoamRecs planning allowances; group loading and traffic can lengthen them.

The catering choices

Citrarium’s in-house catering service is available for up to 60 guests, with larger groups considered according to availability. The two approved external alternatives are Galateo Ricevimenti and Roland’s Social & Business Catering. All food and beverage must come through the villa or those partners; unrestricted outside catering and bring-your-own drinks are not options.

The 60-person catering figure is separate from the salon’s 70-seat capacity. A 65-person wedding could fit an approved indoor layout while still needing a specific in-house catering arrangement or one of the external partners. It does not establish Citrarium’s restaurant seating capacity.

Compare catering proposals for the same guest count and service: aperitivo, dinner, cake or dessert, wine, bar hours, staffing and equipment. A defined bar duration matters particularly when dinner outside is followed by an indoor party.

Citrarium occupies the former citrus-house setting and has both indoor areas and a terrace overlooking Florence. It can be an appealing location for a smaller hosted meal, but its restaurant operation is separate from the wedding rental.

Wine, Champagne, cake and late-night food also need to come through the approved food-and-beverage service, rather than being treated as bring-your-own exceptions.

Planning and other suppliers

We would budget for a planner and an on-site coordination team, particularly when guests are staying in Florence or a marquee is part of the plan. 

The villa provides its preferred list for flowers, music, lighting and other wedding services after booking. That is a useful source of introductions, but it is separate from the explicit catering restriction. Couples committed to a particular photographer, florist or band should establish that supplier’s eligibility before choosing the package.

Outdoor music stops at 10:30 p.m.

Outdoor music ends at 10:30 p.m., while wedding event access runs until 1 a.m. The evening therefore works best as dinner outside followed by an indoor party.

Indoor dancing is offered, with the room, sound limits, bar service and staffing agreed for the booking. Plan the move indoors as part of the evening, with enough time for any room or equipment changeover before the outdoor cutoff.

For a summer wedding, that may mean a later-afternoon ceremony, aperitivo and dinner outside, then an intentional indoor party. For a very late outdoor dinner, the time available for speeches, cake and a first dance before 10:30 p.m. becomes surprisingly short.

Symbolic ceremony or blessing

The gardens suit a symbolic ceremony, and the villa offers non-Catholic religious celebrations subject to the relevant arrangements. The small chapel provides another setting for a blessing, with the group size and ceremony format agreed for that space.

For many destination couples, completing the legal marriage separately and holding the personal ceremony here creates the simplest wedding-day route. The ceremony, reception and photographs can then stay together at the villa.

Catholic wedding

A Catholic wedding means a church ceremony followed by the reception at Le Fontanelle. Careggi offers an established version of that arrangement, keeping the ceremony and reception in the same part of Florence. Parish availability, religious paperwork and permission to marry in the chosen church are arranged through the relevant church authorities.

Legally binding civil wedding

For a legally binding civil marriage, plan around Florence’s municipal process and a designated ceremony room, such as the Sala Rossa in Palazzo Vecchio, followed by the villa celebration. Villa Le Fontanelle directs civil-marriage inquiries to the municipality; any legal ceremony on the property would need separate authorization.

The legal documentation, witnesses and any interpreter requirement should be arranged directly with the municipality and the appropriate authorities for the couple’s nationalities. Build those appointments into the travel itinerary, not just the ceremony day.

Villa Le Fontanelle is at Via di Careggi 26, on the northern side of Florence. The entrance leads to an approximately 500-meter driveway. Airport and city proximity are genuine strengths, but the last part of the journey still needs an organized car, taxi or shuttle.

Florence Airport’s T2 tram connects toward the city center and Santa Maria Novella area. Guests staying centrally can use public transport during their city stay and take the wedding shuttle to the villa. A separate car, taxi or shuttle is needed for the final villa journey.

The transport operator should check which vehicles suit the villa’s driveway and turning space before selecting coaches or minibuses. It should also handle Florence’s tourist-coach access permits and agree suitable city pickup points.

We would provide an earlier return for guests who do not want to stay for the indoor party, plus a final departure coordinated with the 1 a.m. event finish and the venue’s loading arrangements. Guests based in Florence do not need rental cars when those transfers are organized.

Our first choices would be late May, June or September. April is the most interesting rental-value alternative. October can be attractive, but it remains high season and is not the obvious money-saving month it might appear to be.

Late spring and early summer give the outdoor spaces a strong role without deliberately choosing the hottest part of the year. May still needs a serious rain plan; June is warmer, with longer evenings, but a midday ceremony can be uncomfortable.

July and August need shade, water and a later ceremony. There is a scheduling tradeoff: moving everything late to escape the heat leaves less time outside before the 10:30 p.m. music cutoff. An indoor party can resolve that, but the evening should be designed around it.

September offers a useful balance of warmth and less intense average heat, not a guarantee of dry weather. October is cooler and wetter in the regional record while carrying the same high-season venue tariff. We would choose it for the atmosphere and dates, rather than expect a rental bargain.

April and the cooler months offer lower rental rates. For a small wedding that genuinely likes the indoor salon setting, that can be good value. For a larger wedding, weather protection and heating need to be priced before treating the low-season saving as money available for other things.

A three-night reservation gives the resident group time to settle in and enjoy the villa, but the best program does not need to put every guest on the property for every meal.

One practical three-night sequence is arrival the day before the wedding, a welcome gathering in Florence or a separately reserved villa dinner, the wedding the next day, a relaxed third day and departure the following morning. Agree those dates as part of the chosen package.

For a larger guest list, a Florence welcome event can be the simpler choice. Most people are already staying in the city, and it avoids another round of transport and an additional nonresident event at the villa. The wedding day can then feel like the occasion everyone comes up to the estate for.

The morning after the wedding works differently for residents and other guests. Breakfast for the resident group is part of the stay; an invitation for the whole wedding to return for brunch is another event. A pool afternoon also needs a defined guest list, privacy arrangement and service plan.

For a weekday Bronze or Silver wedding, we would keep the surrounding program city-based unless the couple are deliberately buying additional villa time. That preserves the value of the shorter package rather than rebuilding a multi-day estate wedding through separate add-ons.

Which spaces will be private for our group? Have the proposal cover event areas, the rooms, restaurant operation, owners’ access and any exclusive pool use.

Would we be happy with the full wet-weather wedding? Review the ceremony-to-dancing plan for your guest count, including the marquee arrangement where required.

What is the cost of the weekend we actually want? Compare the package with catering, additional gatherings, privacy charges, preparation access and the payment schedule included in the decision.

The difference is the focus on the garden estate, rather than Le Fontanelle’s small boutique-hotel setting and flexible weekday packages.
