Villa d’Este is one of the most iconic wedding venues on Lake Como—and its pricing reflects that.

Set directly on the lake in Cernobbio, the historic palace hotel combines formal Italian gardens, the famous Mosaic Garden, lakefront terraces, five-star hospitality, and the infrastructure of a full luxury hotel.

But how much does a Villa d’Este wedding cost?

We reviewed an official Villa d’Este proposal dated May 7, 2026 for a 50–60 person wedding on August 25, 2028. In that proposal, the wedding is tied to exclusive use of the 27-room Queen’s Pavilion for two nights at €80,000 per night, or €160,000 total in accommodation alone.

Once ceremony, reception, afterparty, and catering are added, the known Villa d’Este costs already exceed €220,000 before open bar, florals, photography, entertainment, production, planning, and other outside vendors.

Here’s what couples should know about Villa d’Este wedding pricing, accommodation requirements, event spaces, catering, music restrictions, and total cost before booking.

How Much Does a Villa d’Este Wedding Cost?

For the 2028 wedding proposal we reviewed, Villa d’Este quoted the following:

Required Queen’s Pavilion Accommodation

€80,000 per night for 27 rooms

The proposal requires exclusive use of the Queen’s Pavilion for two nights:

2 nights = €160,000

The €80,000 nightly rate includes breakfast, service, and 10% VAT. City tax is additional and had not yet been established for 2028 when the proposal was issued.

Importantly, Villa d’Este specifies that the room allotment and wedding food-and-beverage proposal are linked and cannot be accepted separately.

Mosaic Garden Ceremony

A symbolic wedding ceremony in the Mosaic Garden is quoted at:

€22,000 VAT included

The setup includes gold and red Chiavari chairs and a table for the celebrant.

Carpet, additional services, and the celebrant are extra.

Cocktail & Dinner

Use of the Platani Terrace for cocktails and Grill Restaurant Terrace for dinner is quoted at:

€15,000 VAT included

In case of bad weather, dinner moves inside the Grill Restaurant and adjacent Artusi Room, which together have a maximum capacity of approximately 150 guests.

Wedding Menu

The proposal uses 2025 menu pricing beginning at:

€360 per person

This includes:

  • Cocktail with peach and strawberry Spumante cocktail
  • Italian Spumante
  • Fruit juices
  • Hot and cold canapés
  • Four-course meal
  • White and red wine
  • Mineral water
  • Wedding cake
  • Spumante for the final toast

The menu can be customized, so the final cost may be higher.

Children’s menus are quoted at:

€85 per child

Regina Ballroom Afterparty

The Regina Room is available for the afterparty until 2:00 AM.

Rental:

€6,000 VAT included

Open Bar

Open bar is additional at:

€60 per person, per hour

For example:

  • 50 guests = €3,000 per hour
  • 60 guests = €3,600 per hour

A three-hour open bar for 60 guests would therefore add approximately €10,800.

What Does a 50–60 Person Villa d’Este Wedding Actually Cost?

Using the official 2028 proposal, the known costs begin around:

Queen’s Pavilion, two nights: €160,000
Mosaic Garden ceremony: €22,000
Cocktail + dinner venue rental: €15,000
Regina Ballroom: €6,000
Dinner for 50 guests at €360: €18,000

That brings a 50-person wedding to approximately:

€221,000

For 60 guests, catering at the same starting rate is €21,600, bringing the known starting total to approximately:

€224,600

And that is before adding:

  • Open bar
  • Florals
  • Wedding planner
  • Photographer and videographer
  • Music and entertainment
  • AV and lighting
  • Ceremony carpet or upgraded setup
  • Production
  • SIAE and LEA music royalties
  • Transportation
  • Stationery
  • Beauty
  • City tax
  • Other outside suppliers

So for this particular 2028 proposal, Villa d’Este should be thought of as a €220,000+ wedding before external production and vendor costs, not a €20,000 venue rental.

Does Villa d’Este Require a Hotel Buyout?

For the proposal we reviewed, yes—but it is specifically the Queen’s Pavilion, rather than the entire Villa d’Este hotel.

The wedding proposal requires exclusive use of 27 rooms in the Queen’s Pavilion for two nights.

The room inventory includes:

  • 3 Double Executive rooms with garden views
  • 4 Double Deluxe rooms with lake views
  • 6 Junior Suite Exclusive rooms with park views
  • 13 Junior Suite Lake View rooms with balconies
  • 1 Lake View Suite

Total:

27 rooms for €80,000 per night

The hotel states that the accommodation proposal acts as collateral to the event and food-and-beverage function, and the two proposals cannot be accepted separately.

That requirement is one of the biggest factors driving the total cost of a Villa d’Este wedding.

Can You Have a Civil Wedding at Villa d’Este?

The proposal specifies that the ceremony held at Villa d’Este is symbolic.

A civil ceremony must take place at the town hall.

For the wedding proposal we reviewed, the symbolic ceremony was scheduled for 5:30 PM in the Mosaic Garden.

Villa d’Este Mosaic Garden Wedding Ceremony

The Mosaic Garden is one of the hotel’s signature wedding settings.

For the 2028 proposal, exclusive use for the symbolic ceremony costs:

€22,000 VAT included

The hotel includes Chiavari chairs and a celebrant table, while additional décor, carpet, and celebrant services are extra.

In case of bad weather, Villa d’Este states that an alternative ceremony location can be arranged.

Villa d’Este Cocktail & Wedding Dinner

Following the ceremony, the proposal moves guests to the Platani Terrace for cocktails overlooking Lake Como.

Dinner then takes place on the Grill Restaurant Terrace, with either round tables or an imperial table.

Combined rental for these reception spaces is:

€15,000 VAT included

If weather prevents outdoor dining, dinner moves into the Grill Restaurant and neighboring Artusi Room.

The stated indoor capacity is up to approximately 150 guests.

What Time Can Music Continue at Villa d’Este?

Outdoor wedding music has relatively strict rules.

Acoustic music in the banqueting areas must:

  • End by 11:00 PM
  • Remain below 80 decibels
  • Not include drums

After 11:00 PM, the wedding can move indoors to the Regina Room.

The Regina Room can remain open until:

2:00 AM

Music must remain below 80 decibels indoors as well.

For couples planning a late-night wedding, the basic flow would therefore be:

Outdoor ceremony → cocktails → dinner → indoor afterparty

rather than keeping the full celebration outside all night.

How Much Is the Villa d’Este Afterparty?

Rental of the Regina Ballroom for the afterparty is:

€6,000 VAT included

The room is available until 2:00 AM.

Open bar is additional at €60 per person per hour.

Security may also be required.

With exclusive use of the Queen’s Pavilion, Villa d’Este requires at least two security attendants.

Security costs:

€40 VAT included per hour, per attendant

with a six-hour minimum.

Two guards for six hours would therefore begin at €480.

The hotel may require additional security depending on guest count, alcohol service, entertainment, external vendors, or high-profile attendees.

Does Villa d’Este Have a Rain Plan?

Yes.

For the proposed reception, dinner moves from the Grill Terrace indoors to the Grill Restaurant and Artusi Room in bad weather.

The indoor dinner capacity is approximately:

150 guests

The hotel also states that an alternate space can be provided for the Mosaic Garden ceremony in bad weather.

This is one of Villa d’Este’s advantages over smaller Lake Como villas: there is significant indoor event infrastructure already on the property.

Can You Use Your Own Wedding Vendors?

Not freely.

Villa d’Este states that for services provided by external suppliers—including:

  • Flowers
  • AV
  • Music and entertainment
  • Photography
  • Tent structures
  • Production

the hotel has a list of exclusive vendors.

That means couples should ask for the approved supplier list early in the planning process.

This can materially affect both creative flexibility and budget.

Music and entertainment are also subject to Italian SIAE and LEA royalties, which are the client’s responsibility.

Are Photography and Drones Allowed at Villa d’Este?

Photography is obviously possible as part of the wedding, but the hotel states that photoshoots and drone use require prior written approval.

Couples planning drone footage or a separate editorial-style shoot should clear this with Villa d’Este in advance.

What Makes Villa d’Este Different From Other Lake Como Wedding Venues?

Villa d’Este offers something very different from a private villa rental.

You’re combining:

One of Lake Como’s most historic luxury hotels

with

the Mosaic Garden

lakefront terraces

on-site accommodation

five-star food and service

substantial indoor rain backup

a dedicated indoor afterparty space until 2:00 AM

The tradeoff is cost and flexibility.

The accommodation commitment alone can exceed the total wedding budget at many other Lake Como properties, and couples need to work within Villa d’Este’s catering, approved-vendor, entertainment, and operational requirements.

Who Is Villa d’Este Best For?

Villa d’Este is best suited to couples who want:

  • An ultra-luxury Lake Como wedding
  • A historic palace hotel rather than a private villa
  • A formal or black-tie celebration
  • Guests staying directly on-site
  • Exceptional food and service
  • A strong indoor rain plan
  • A symbolic ceremony in the Mosaic Garden
  • A wedding that transitions into an indoor afterparty
  • A budget capable of supporting a €200,000+ celebration

For couples primarily looking for a €20,000–€50,000 Lake Como venue, this specific 2028 proposal shows that Villa d’Este is in a completely different pricing category.

Our Take on Villa d’Este

The most important thing to understand about Villa d’Este pricing is that the ceremony rental isn't what makes the wedding expensive.

It's the entire package structure.

For the 50–60 guest wedding proposal we reviewed, the couple is committing to €160,000 of accommodation before the ceremony even begins.

Then comes €22,000 for the Mosaic Garden, €15,000 for the reception spaces, €6,000 for the Regina afterparty room, catering beginning at €360 per guest, and any open bar or outside production.

That makes Villa d’Este one of those venues where a smaller guest list does not necessarily mean a small wedding budget.

For couples with the budget, however, the combination of the Mosaic Garden, Lake Como views, palace-hotel service, accommodations, and late-night reception infrastructure creates an experience that is difficult to replicate elsewhere.
