Charleston does Christmas with one foot in old-school hotel grandeur and the other in palm-lined holiday kitsch. One night might start beside a miniature Alpine village in a grand hotel lobby and end beneath hundreds of ornaments at a neighborhood pub. Another might involve a private ski hut, a tiki Santa cocktail or artificial snow falling beside Shem Creek.

The best holiday stops aren't always the ones with the most decorations. We picked bars and restaurants that still deliver a good meal, a well-made drink or an experience worth leaving the house for once the first round of photos is done. Each pick shows its 2026 dates, and the annual favorites that haven't announced yet are grouped at the end.

Christmas Bars and Holiday Pop-Ups in Downtown Charleston

Most of Charleston's holiday scene sits on the peninsula, in four walkable clusters: the French Quarter and Broad Street, Marion Square, Upper King, and NoMo and the Eastside. Pick one cluster for the night and you can walk between stops.

Blind Tiger Pub

Blind Tiger Pub

36-38 Broad St, Charleston, SC 29403, USA

Blind Tiger is the answer when someone asks for one Charleston Christmas bar. The historic pub turns into an ornament-covered holiday cave, while the brick courtyard keeps enough of the everyday Blind Tiger feel that it never reads as a temporary photo set. It also works at almost any hour. Go for lunch or an early-afternoon drink to see the decorations without a packed room, or come late for the full bar atmosphere. Blind Tiger has posted Christmas Day hours of 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., one of the clearest options for an actual drink on December 25. Best for: First-time visitors, Christmas Day, casual drinks and groups that can't decide between a bar and a restaurant. Details: French Quarter | 36 Broad Street | Decorated through the holidays

Little Pine at Little Palm

Little Pine at Little Palm

237 Meeting St, Charleston, SC 29401, USA

Little Pine is the pop-up to reserve when you want more than a walk-in cocktail. The Ryder's poolside bar becomes a small winter village with private ski huts, fire pits, blankets and a seasonal menu built around drinks like spiked eggnog. Huts hold up to six and come with a complimentary charcuterie board. Weekday daytime huts are $75, and evening and weekend reservations are $150. That buys private space in the middle of downtown during the busiest month of the year, so Little Pine can anchor a birthday, double date or small office outing on its own. Best for: Date nights, birthdays, groups of four to six and anyone willing to book early. Details: Downtown | 237 Meeting Street (The Ryder) | November 9 to January 5

The Charleston Place

The Charleston Place

205 Meeting St, Charleston, SC 29401, USA

Even people who never order a drink should walk through The Charleston Place in December. The centerpiece is a miniature Alpine village built around an elaborate model railway, with multiple trains, mountain scenery and hundreds of feet of track. Grand staircases, towering trees and garland make the lobby the city's most traditional Christmas setting. Turn it into a proper stop with cocktails and live music at the Thoroughbred Club. The room feels like a polished hotel living room rather than a themed pop-up, a good hour for parents, out-of-town guests or a break between louder bars. Best for: Hotel grandeur, families, visitors staying downtown and an elegant start to the evening. Details: Historic District | 205 Meeting Street | Annual tradition, 2026 dates to come

Bar Mashmas at Bar Mash

Bar Mashmas at Bar Mash

701 E Bay St Ste 100-2, Charleston, SC 29403, USA

Bar Mashmas works because Bar Mash was already one of Charleston's better drinking rooms before anyone added lights. The annual takeover brings exaggerated decorations, seasonal food and a holiday cocktail menu, but the drinks stay the main reason to go. It feels relaxed and local next to the city's more theatrical pop-ups. Two people who care about what's in the glass will be happy here, and so will a group that wants holiday atmosphere without booking an igloo. Bar Mash is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Best for: Cocktails, whiskey drinkers, low-key dates and locals avoiding the Upper King crowds. Details: Eastside | 701 East Bay Street (Cigar Factory) | From November 16

Hotel Bennett

Hotel Bennett

404 King St, Charleston, SC 29403, USA

Hotel Bennett runs Christmas as a full calendar rather than a single pop-up. The life-size gingerbread house in the lobby, which serves hot cocoa, is an easy reason to step inside without a reservation. The teas are what to book first. Tea with Santa runs on select dates from late November through December 23, and Camellias hosts an adults-only sparkling Holiday Tea from December 3 to December 18. Pink interiors, Champagne and holiday service make Camellias one of the city's best dress-up December outings. Best for: Afternoon tea, mothers and daughters, dressed-up dates and families. Details: Marion Square | 404 King Street | Late November through December 23

Sorelle

Sorelle

88 Broad St, Charleston, SC 29401, USA

Sorelle is the pick when the meal itself needs to be the Christmas event. The Feast of the Seven Fishes runs December 15 through December 23, with a multi-course seafood menu at $145 per person before tax and gratuity, and the regular menu stays available alongside it. On Christmas Eve, Sorelle serves a separate holiday dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. at $195 per person, with optional wine pairings and a $50 children's menu for guests 12 and under. It's a real splurge, but the historic dining room and Italian holiday format earn it. Limited private parking is available after 5 p.m. at 101 Broad Street. Best for: Christmas Eve, special-occasion dinners and anyone who wants a holiday meal rather than a themed bar. Details: French Quarter | 88 Broad Street | December 15 to December 24

Santi's Restaurante Mexicano

Santi's Restaurante Mexicano

1302 Meeting St, Charleston, SC 29405, USA

Santi's has decorated for Christmas since 2003, when hanging a tree upside down began as a way to save floor space. More than two decades later, every inch of the dining rooms, bars and patios is covered in inverted trees, lights and ornaments. All three locations take part, though the original on Meeting Street has the most old-school Charleston character. Santi's is neither expensive nor precious: families can order tacos, fajitas and margaritas and still get one of the city's most elaborate holiday rooms. Best for: Families, casual dinners, larger groups and maximalist decor without pop-up pricing. Details: NoMo, West Ashley and Mount Pleasant | Annual tradition, 2026 dates to come

Winter at Frannie & The Fox

Winter at Frannie & The Fox

181 Church St, Charleston, SC 29401, USA

Frannie & The Fox's courtyard gets a winter transformation again for 2026. Past editions have centered on firelit seating, festive trees and private winter nooks, and the 2026 booking format hasn't been released yet. This is the Hotel Emeline pick when dinner is part of the plan. The wood-fired menu and courtyard make it a full evening rather than a temporary bar installation. Book ahead, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Best for: Romantic dinners, double dates and festive atmosphere without a loud party. Details: French Quarter | 181 Church Street (Hotel Emeline) | Holiday season

Santa Baby at The Den

Santa Baby at The Den

181 Church St, Charleston, SC 29401, USA

The Den is Hotel Emeline's small martini bar, tucked inside the Frannie & The Fox dining room. Its Santa Baby makeover is the flirtier, more grown-up counterpart to the courtyard, and it's confirmed to return for 2026. The Den pours Tuesday through Saturday evenings and doesn't take reservations, so it's an easy nightcap after dinner at Frannie's or anywhere near the market. The room is small, so go earlier than you would for a typical bar. Best for: Martinis, intimate dates and a second stop after dinner. Details: French Quarter | 181 Church Street (Hotel Emeline) | Holiday season

The Living Room at The Dewberry

The Living Room at The Dewberry

334 Meeting St, Charleston, SC 29403, USA

The Dewberry is the grown-up counterpoint to Charleston's ornament explosions. Its holiday look usually centers on a carefully designed tree, warm lighting and understated seasonal details rather than wall-to-wall props. Come for Champagne, martinis or a polished pre-dinner drink. Seating is first come, first served, so earlier is better on December weekends. Best for: A refined date, parents visiting for the weekend and anyone who prefers Champagne to novelty glassware. Details: Marion Square | 334 Meeting Street | Annual tradition, 2026 dates to come

Lamar's Sporting Club Holiday Pop-Up

Lamar's Sporting Club Holiday Pop-Up

570 King St, Charleston, SC 29403, USA

Lamar's turns its lounge into a polished holiday party with colorful ornaments, lights and seasonal cocktails. Skip it if you want a quiet fireside drink. It's for people who already want a dressed-up Upper King night and would like it with Christmas decor. The pop-up runs Thursday through Sunday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Early hours work for a pre-dinner drink, but the room looks more like a nightclub as the evening goes on. A Santa brunch with neighboring Bourbon N' Bubbles is set for December 13. Best for: Late nights, celebrations, dressed-up groups and an Upper King crawl. Details: Upper King | 570 King Street | November 6 to January 3

Republic Garden & Lounge Holiday Pop-Up

Republic Garden & Lounge Holiday Pop-Up

462 King St, Charleston, SC 29403, USA

Republic approaches Christmas the way it approaches a normal Saturday: loudly, photogenically and with no interest in understatement. Expect oversized ornaments, disco balls and a room built as much for photos as for drinking. Go because your group wants dancing, a DJ and the full Republic experience, not for a quiet cocktail. There's a smart-casual dress code, and Lamar's is a few blocks up King Street if you want to pair them. Best for: Nightlife, groups celebrating something and the most photogenic room on Upper King. Details: Upper King | 462 King Street | November 6 to January 3

The Cocktail Club

The Cocktail Club

479 King St, Charleston, SC 29403, USA

The Cocktail Club adds holiday-themed drinks through December. It's a lighter seasonal treatment than Little Pine or Miracle, but the underlying cocktail program is strong and the rooftop gives groups room to spread out. Weekends get loud, so go earlier for a proper drink. It works best as the bridge between Hotel Bennett and the bigger Lamar's or Republic pop-ups. Best for: Craft cocktails, rooftops and an Upper King night with several stops. Details: Upper King | 479 King Street | December

Après-Ski at The Bower, Edmund's Original

Après-Ski at The Bower, Edmund's Original

1081 Morrison Dr, Charleston, SC 29403, USA

Edmund's Original brings après-ski energy to The Bower without pretending everyone isn't still in a Charleston beer garden. The seasonal menu and decorations make it festive, but it stays casual enough for burgers, beer and a last-minute group outing. A few one-off events make it more than a winter menu. A holiday market with local vendors, a vinyl DJ and Santa and Mrs. Claus is planned for December 6 from noon to 4 p.m., and a Sopranos-themed Christmas dinner returns on December 14. Best for: Beer drinkers, casual groups, families during the market and anyone looking outside the downtown core. Details: NoMo | 1081 Morrison Drive | From November 21

The Palmetto Hotel Lobby Bar

The Palmetto Hotel Lobby Bar

194 E Bay St, Charleston, SC 29401, USA

The Palmetto is for a festive hotel drink without committing to an elaborate pop-up. Its warm, residential lobby bar is an easy stop between Waterfront Park, the City Market and the restaurants along East Bay Street. The Colonial Christmas Stroll, a guided walk through Charleston's holiday past, runs December 1 through December 22 and ends with a holiday cocktail here. Treat it as an elegant supporting stop rather than the anchor of the night. Best for: A quieter cocktail, visitors staying near the market and an easy drink before or after dinner. Details: French Quarter | 194 East Bay Street | Colonial Christmas Stroll December 1 to 22

Christmas Bars Outside Downtown: Mount Pleasant and Daniel Island

These two are worth a separate outing rather than a stop on a downtown crawl. Holiday traffic over the Ravenel Bridge and up I-526 can turn a short drive into a long one. Santi's also has a Mount Pleasant location if you want a casual dinner on this side of the river.

Miracle at Saltwater Cowboys

Miracle at Saltwater Cowboys

130 Mill St, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464, USA

Miracle is the biggest all-purpose Christmas spectacle in the Charleston area. Saltwater Cowboys pairs the national pop-up's themed cocktails, mocktails and collectible mugs with Shem Creek views, a snow machine, hot chocolate, cider, Santa appearances and later-night music. The waterfront makes this version feel more Charleston than a pop-up dropped into a generic bar. Families should come during the day or around an early dinner; adults after the full party should come later. Hours are 11 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to midnight on Sunday. Best for: The biggest production, families early in the day, visitors staying east of the Cooper and groups with mixed interests. Details: Mount Pleasant | 130 Mill Street (Shem Creek) | November 20 to December 31

Rooftop Igloos at The Kingstide

Rooftop Igloos at The Kingstide

32 River Landing Dr, Daniel Island, SC 29492, USA

The Kingstide's rooftop igloos are a private alternative to crowded downtown pop-ups. Each one seats up to eight and overlooks the water, with a limited family-style menu built for sharing. Plan it as a group dinner rather than a spontaneous drink. Book directly with the restaurant. The Kingstide is open 4 to 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day. Best for: Groups of six to eight, office outings and celebrations outside downtown. Details: Daniel Island | 32 River Landing Drive | From December 1

Sippin' Santa at Prohibition

Sippin' Santa at Prohibition

547 King St, Charleston, SC 29403, USA

Prohibition's tiki Christmas takeover brings floor-to-ceiling decorations, specialty glassware and rum-forward holiday drinks. It's a party, not a traditional Christmas room, so expect pop-up pricing and a busy bar. Details: Upper King | 547 King Street | 2026 dates to come

Holidays on Hutson Alley

Holidays on Hutson Alley

39C-G, John St, Charleston, SC 29403, USA

Recent editions filled the cobblestone alley with lights, local vendors, Santa, hot chocolate, s'mores, cocktails and staged snowfall. Families can move easily between the alley and the surrounding restaurants. Details: Downtown | Off John Street | 2026 dates to come

The Iron Rose

The Iron Rose

115 Meeting St #174, Charleston, SC 29401, USA

The Mills House restaurant has run a dozen Christmas cocktails in past seasons. Pair it with dinner in the courtyard once the 2026 menu is out. Details: French Quarter | 115 Meeting Street (Mills House) | 2026 dates to come

The Loutrel

The Loutrel

61 State St Main Entrance, Charleston, SC 29401, USA

The Loutrel's lobby has turned into an Alpine-style lodge with seasonal cocktails and holiday tea before, and its small scale feels more intimate than the big hotel lobbies. Details: French Quarter | 61 State Street | 2026 dates to come

Polar Perch at Get Carried Away

Polar Perch at Get Carried Away

644 Coleman Blvd, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464, USA

Taco Boy's tropical Christmas takeover is the beach option in a category dominated by hotels and King Street bars. Details: Folly Beach | 106 East Ashley Avenue | 2026 dates to come

Tips for a Charleston Christmas Night Out

Book one anchor and keep the rest flexible. Little Pine's huts, The Kingstide's igloos, Hotel Bennett's teas, Frannie & The Fox and Sorelle are the ones to reserve. Blind Tiger, Bar Mash, The Dewberry and The Den work as walk-in additions around them.

Go early. Lamar's, Republic, The Cocktail Club and Miracle shift from festive bar to nightlife as the evening goes on. Families and anyone who wants a proper cocktail should arrive before 8 p.m.

Stay in one part of town, and dress for outdoor seating. Shem Creek and Daniel Island are separate outings from downtown. Little Pine, Frannie's courtyard and The Kingstide's rooftop are partly outdoors, and Charleston gets cold and damp after dark even with heaters and blankets.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Christmas bar in Charleston?
For a classic Charleston experience, start with Blind Tiger, which pairs elaborate decorations with a historic pub, courtyard and full menu. For a bookable pop-up, reserve a hut at Little Pine. For the biggest spectacle, go to Miracle at Saltwater Cowboys on Shem Creek.
Which Charleston Christmas bars are good for kids?
Santi's is the easiest family meal. Tea with Santa at Hotel Bennett, The Charleston Place lobby, the Edmund's Original holiday market and Miracle during the day are also good picks. Save Republic, Lamar's and late-night Upper King for an adult night.
Which holiday experiences need reservations?
Book Little Pine's huts and fire pits, The Kingstide's igloos, Hotel Bennett's teas, Frannie & The Fox and Sorelle's holiday dinners. Most bars take walk-ins, though December weekends bring lines and crowded rooms.
Are any Charleston bars open on Christmas Day?
Blind Tiger is open 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on December 25. Bar Mash and The Kingstide are closed, and hotel bars and restaurants often keep their own holiday hours, so call ahead before making other plans.
When do Charleston's holiday pop-ups open?
Lamar's and Republic open first, on November 6, followed by Little Pine on November 9 and Bar Mashmas on November 16. Most of the city's holiday scene is running by Thanksgiving weekend, and several pop-ups stay up through the first week of January.
