Austin doesn't need snow to commit to Christmas. At Lala's, the decorations never come down. Downtown, Miracle fills The Eleanor with wall-to-wall holiday kitsch for its tenth season. And at Donn's Depot, the Christmas lights hang over live bands and a packed dance floor. Three very different nights out, and that's the point.

This guide covers 24 Christmas bars and holiday pop-ups across Austin, from neighborhood institutions to hotel rooftops, East Austin takeovers and a Hanukkah patio party. It's organized by area, so you can plan a night without crossing town, and every place is labeled with where its 2026 plans stand.

Christmas Bars in Downtown Austin and Rainey Street

Downtown has the most holiday bars in the city, and most of them sit in hotels. Miracle is the headline, while the hotel rooftops each pick a different theme, from snowfall to palm trees.

Miracle on 5th Street at The Eleanor

Miracle on 5th Street at The Eleanor

307 W 5th St, Austin, TX 78701, USA

Miracle is the pick when subtle would be a letdown. This is The Eleanor's tenth season hosting it: multiple rooms and bars, dense decorations, novelty glassware, shot skis and Santa's throne. Bring visiting friends or a group that's celebrating, and let the decor be the main event. Getting in and getting a seat are different things. General admission doesn't hold a table, and a Dasher Pass only skips the line. Groups of 6 to 60 can book the second-floor mezzanine for 4–7 p.m. or 7:30–10 p.m., with line-skipping included. If a general admission ticket doesn't get you inside on a busy night, Miracle refunds it. Plan your visit: 2026 dates announced, November 12–December 30. Free before 5 p.m., tickets required after. Guests under 21 can come with a parent, guardian or spouse until 7 p.m. Our move is an early visit.

Naughty or Nice at Upstairs at Caroline

Naughty or Nice at Upstairs at Caroline

109 E 7th St, Austin, TX 78701, USA

Upstairs at Caroline is the easy answer when a group wants Christmas drinks downtown without a ticketed production. Naughty or Nice turns the rooftop into a holiday bar with seasonal cocktails, and past editions split the specials by list: Rumple Minze for the nice, Malört for the naughty. It's central enough to open the night before dinner. Think casual rooftop hangout, not winter cabin. Plan your visit: 2026 details to come. The rooftop entrance is at 109 East Seventh Street. Entry has been free in past seasons, subject to capacity, and weather or private events can affect access.

The Deck, Hidden Flask and The Point at Four Seasons

The Deck, Hidden Flask and The Point at Four Seasons

98 San Jacinto Blvd, Austin, TX 78701, USA

Four Seasons gives you three ways into the season during its Ice Rodeo. The Deck, on Live Oak's outdoor balcony, looks down on the hotel's 30-foot Christmas tree, with martinis, Champagne, caviar and light bites. Hidden Flask is the date-night move: a speakeasy in a hotel suite, with a private balcony and fire pits. The Point sits beside the outdoor ice rink, with festive cocktails, holiday-market food and s'mores around communal fire pits, and it's the most family-friendly of the three. Plan your visit: 2026 dates announced. Ice Rodeo runs November 20–January 3, 2027. The Deck is open daily, 5–9 p.m., first come, first served. Hidden Flask runs Thursday–Saturday by OpenTable reservation. The rink is open daily, 4–9 p.m.; skating tickets and rinkside cabins are booked separately.

The Ugly Sweater Pop-Up at Rules & Regs

The Ugly Sweater Pop-Up at Rules & Regs

101 Red River St, Austin, TX 78701, USA

Ugly Sweater gives Fairmont's Rules & Regs a sense of humor: nostalgic decorations, holiday cocktails and seasonal bites in place of a restrained hotel-lobby Christmas. It suits a dressed-up group that still wants to laugh at the decor. The hotel's Fairmont Express, with train-car booths and build-your-own hot cocoa, is a separate outing and isn't included with a drink at Ugly Sweater. Plan your visit: 2026 opening announced. Opens November 27; the full calendar and reservations are still to come.

Jingle Jangle at The Dead Rabbit

Jingle Jangle at The Dead Rabbit

204 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78701, USA

The Dead Rabbit's Jingle Jangle dresses the Irish pub in nostalgic Christmas decor, with more than a dozen seasonal cocktails and Irish Christmas songs on the speakers. Last year it ran from mid-November into early January. Book it for a date that should include dinner and a proper drink. Plan your visit: 2026 details to come. A regular reservation doesn't confirm the holiday takeover.

Frosty's Christmas Bar

Frosty's Christmas Bar

400 Colorado St, Austin, TX 78701, USA

Frosty's is all about scale: three floors, four bars and two dance floors under oversized holiday scenery. Bring a birthday group or friends who see the decorations as the warm-up for a late night. Plan your visit: 2026 details to come. Wait for the ticket calendar before planning a group night around it.

Yule at Azul

Yule at Azul

310 E 5th St., Austin, TX 78701, USA

Azul, on The Westin's 20th floor, is the city's highest rooftop bar, and Yule puts Christmas above the skyline: decorated cabanas, blankets and seasonal drinks, including mocktails. Past editions added s'mores and photo booths. Book a cabana for a small group that wants its own seating. Plan your visit: 2026 details to come. Book through Azul's own cabana page once dates are posted. 21+.

Snow Much Fun at Edge Rooftop

Snow Much Fun at Edge Rooftop

110 E 2nd St, Austin, TX 78701, USA

Edge leans wintry. Past editions dropped artificial snow every hour on the JW Marriott's fifth-floor rooftop, with fireside seating and live music. It's a rooftop for staying a while, so reserve seats instead of showing up with a big group. Plan your visit: 2026 details to come, including dates, the snow schedule and seating options.

Holiday Hideaway at Zanzibar

Holiday Hideaway at Zanzibar

304 E Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78701, USA

Zanzibar is the rooftop for palm trees over pine. Past holiday editions layered festive lights and warm, spiced cocktails onto its tropical setting on the Austin Marriott Downtown's seventh floor. Go at sunset and stay for the island-inspired food. Plan your visit: 2026 details to come, including dates and the seasonal menu.

Santa's Afterparty at Swim Club

Santa's Afterparty at Swim Club

650 E 10th St, Austin, TX 78701, USA

Santa's Afterparty debuted last year as a glamorous, retro holiday takeover curated by Nickel City's Travis Tober, with drinks like the Santa Abides, small bites and s'mores at fire pits on the lawn. It's theatrical without the crowds of a multi-floor party. Plan your visit: 2026 details to come. Book the holiday experience itself; a regular Swim Club reservation may not include it.

Reindeer Over Rainey at Hotel Van Zandt

Reindeer Over Rainey at Hotel Van Zandt

605 Davis St, Austin, TX 78701, USA

Hotel Van Zandt's holiday bar takes over the rooftop pool deck, and past seasons added private igloos for up to six with holiday music, games and a dedicated server. Book it for a group that wants a home base, not a couple hopping down Rainey. Plan your visit: 2026 details to come. The setup changes year to year, so don't count on last season's igloos.

Christmas Bars in East Austin

East Austin's holiday bars are neighborhood spots that dress up for December, and most have good food on site. Two pairs are close enough to combine: Nickel City and Busy Signal on East 11th, and Kitty Cohen's and The Cavalier on Webberville Road. Most of these bars run Halloween takeovers first; see our Austin Halloween guide for what they did in October.

Sippin' Santa at Nickel City

Sippin' Santa at Nickel City

1133 E 11th St, Austin, TX 78702, USA

Sippin' Santa swaps the snowy lodge for a tropical Christmas: tiki holiday cocktails developed with Jeff "Beachbum" Berry, served in collectible glassware. Nickel City has hosted it for years, and the bar underneath is reason enough to go. Delray Cafe serves Detroit-style coneys, sliders and wings late into the night. Plan your visit: 2026 dates to come. Last year it opened the week of Thanksgiving, and groups of 6–12 have been able to book tables with a minimum spend.

Holiday at Busy Signal

Holiday at Busy Signal

1104 E 11th St, Austin, TX 78702, USA

Busy Signal sits behind Victory East: a speakeasy-style room with cocktails, small plates and a rotating lineup of live music, DJs and comedy. Its last holiday edition added seasonal drinks and decor. Pick the night by what's on the calendar, then walk to Nickel City down the block. Plan your visit: 2026 details to come. Regular reservations are available through the venue.

Get Lit at Kitty Cohen's

Get Lit at Kitty Cohen's

2211 Webberville Rd #3548, Austin, TX 78702, USA

Get Lit is a Hanukkah party, and a welcome break from the Santa circuit. Kitty Cohen's has run it on its poolside-style patio for five years, with themed drinks, decorations and food collaborations. Last year it ran through all of December. Plan your visit: 2026 details to come. Hanukkah runs December 4–12 this year. 21+.

Krampus at The Cavalier

Krampus at The Cavalier

2400 Webberville Rd A, Austin, TX 78702, USA

Krampus is for anyone whose holiday spirit stops short of candy canes. The Cavalier hands its neighborhood pub over to Christmas's mischievous side, and keeps the scratch kitchen, patio and bar games. Last year it ran most of December with free entry. Plan your visit: 2026 details to come. The bar doesn't take reservations.

Nutcracker at Daydreamer

Nutcracker at Daydreamer

1708 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78702, USA

Daydreamer's Nutcracker pop-up adds holiday decor, a special drink menu and occasional food pop-ups to a cocktail and Champagne bar. It's a seasonal drink without a ticket, good for an East Sixth date or a small group. Plan your visit: 2026 details to come, including the theme, dates and programming.

Holiday Pop-Up at Cosmic Saltillo

Holiday Pop-Up at Cosmic Saltillo

1300 E 4th St, Austin, TX 78702, USA

Cosmic Saltillo's upstairs bar goes holiday most years, with festive drinks, decorations and Christmas movies. The bigger draw for a mixed group is everything around it: coffee, cocktails, tacos, indoor seating and a big patio. Plan your visit: 2026 details to come. The regular venue is first come, first served and becomes 21+ after 5 p.m.

Cowboy Christmas Maze at Sign Bar

Cowboy Christmas Maze at Sign Bar

9909 FM 969 Bldg 3, Austin, TX 78724, USA

Sign Bar collects signs from closed Austin bars and restaurants, which makes it part bar, part museum of the city's nightlife. Its Cowboy Christmas Maze added something to wander through between drinks. Plan it as its own outing; it's a drive from East Sixth. Plan your visit: 2026 details to come, including the maze's return, dates and admission.

Christmas Bars in South Austin

South Austin's three picks are spread out, so choose one and settle in. Austin Motel is the easiest to fold into a dinner plan on South Congress.

Lala's South Pole

Lala's South Pole

3008 Davis Ln #101, Austin, TX 78745, USA

The southern sibling of Lala's Little Nugget, near Slaughter Lane and Manchaca Road, opened in 2024 with the same year-round Christmas. Pizza from Brooklyn Pie Co. turns one drink into a whole evening. It's the easy call for a low-key group night south of the river, or Christmas cheer before the pop-ups open. Plan your visit: Christmas year-round, with pizza on site.

Winter Wonderglam at Gibson Street Bar

Winter Wonderglam at Gibson Street Bar

1109 S Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78704, USA

Gibson goes all in on its seasonal makeovers; its Halloween carnival is one of the most visible in town, and the Christmas version goes well beyond a tree in the corner. It's a bar for meeting friends, not a timed attraction, and Jewboy Sliders on site means dinner is handled. Plan your visit: 2026 details to come; the Halloween takeover runs through November 1. 21+.

Winter Wanderland at Austin Motel

Winter Wanderland at Austin Motel

1220 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704, USA

Austin Motel takes Christmas in a colorful direction: rainbow trees, festive drinks at Rocky's Bar and ski-chalet seating, with movies and music in past seasons. Make the courtyard the festive stop in a South Congress night and book dinner nearby. Plan your visit: 2026 details to come, including dates, admission and the activity calendar.

Christmas Bars in Central and West Austin

These three stand on their own, and each is worth a dedicated trip: the original Austin Christmas bar, a piano-bar dance floor, and rooftop igloos near UT. Donn's lesson nights and covers are in our dancing and two-stepping guide.

Lala's Little Nugget

Lala's Little Nugget

2207 Justin Ln, Austin, TX 78757, USA

Lala's is where we'd send anyone looking for an Austin Christmas bar, not a temporary attraction. Frances Lala opened it in 1972, and Christmas is permanent: decades of holiday memorabilia on the walls, lights overhead, and Santa and his reindeer on the roof. It's still a neighborhood bar, with nothing to book and no need to wait for December. Put it first for an unfussy catch-up, a casual date, or visiting friends who should see more than downtown's biggest pop-ups. Plan your visit: Christmas year-round. 21+ with valid ID.

Donn's Depot

Donn's Depot

1600 W 5th St, Austin, TX 78703, USA

Donn's has been a piano bar and dance hall in an old train depot and railcars since 1978, with live bands most nights. At Christmas the lights go up over a night that already has something going on. Pick it when your group wants to dance, and choose the night by the music calendar. Plan your visit: Open year-round; 2026 decorating dates to come. Performers and covers vary.

Winter Sol at Otopia Rooftop

Winter Sol at Otopia Rooftop

1901 San Antonio St Unit 1100, Austin, TX 78705, USA

Otopia's Winter Sol sets itself apart with reservable rooftop igloos, giving a group the view and an enclosed place to gather. It's the West Campus alternative to downtown for a celebration near UT. Once it's announced, check group size, booking length and what food and drink are included. Plan your visit: 2026 details to come. Regular cabanas and pool passes are separate bookings.

Four Ways to Make a Night of It

The downtown Christmas night. Hit Miracle before 5 p.m., while admission is free, then walk to Upstairs at Caroline's rooftop. That's one full-scale Christmas installation and one casual rooftop, with only one ticket at most. Book dinner separately.

The dressed-up holiday date. Make Hidden Flask the reservation. Or take an early walk-in drink at The Deck, then go to dinner. One hotel lounge is plenty when the point is somewhere comfortable to stay.

The East 11th Street evening. Tiki Christmas drinks at Sippin' Santa, then a show at Busy Signal down the block. Check Busy Signal's calendar to decide which comes first.

The neighborhood Christmas night. Pick the Lala's on your side of town and stay put. The whole idea is an easy night in a Christmas bar, not half of it in a rideshare.

Before You Book

Buy the experience you actually need. Admission, skip-the-line passes, a table and a private cabana are different products. For a group that has to sit together, book a table or private space, then plan one flexible stop around it.

Treat rooftops as outdoor plans. Bring a layer and check the forecast. A blanket, heater or decorated cabana isn't an enclosed room.

Check the day, not just the season. A pop-up running through late December can still close for a private event or on Christmas Day, so check holiday hours for your date.

Book dinner around it. Our guides to Austin restaurants open on Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving takeout cover the holiday before this one, and our Austin bars for your 30s guide is the fallback when a pop-up is packed.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Christmas bar in Austin?
Lala's Little Nugget is our first pick for a distinctly Austin Christmas bar: its decorations are permanent, and it's been open since 1972. For a bigger spectacle, go to Miracle on 5th Street. When live music and dancing matter more than photos, go to Donn's Depot.
When do Austin's Christmas bars open in 2026?
Miracle opens November 12, Four Seasons' Ice Rodeo starts November 20, and Ugly Sweater at the Fairmont opens November 27. Both Lala's locations are Christmas-themed year-round. Most other pop-ups announce their dates in November.
Which Christmas bars are free to get into?
Miracle is free before 5 p.m., with tickets required after. Naughty or Nice at Upstairs at Caroline and Krampus at The Cavalier have been free to enter in past seasons, and the year-round bars don't charge a cover. Free entry doesn't include drinks or guarantee a seat.
Can kids go to Austin's Christmas bars?
It depends on the venue and the hour. Lala's Little Nugget, Kitty Cohen's, Gibson Street Bar and Azul are 21+. Miracle allows guests under 21 with a parent, guardian or spouse until 7 p.m., and guests aged 16–20 need documentation of the relationship. For a family outing, Four Seasons' Ice Rodeo, with skating, The Point and a candy shop, is a better place to start.
Are there options for people who aren't drinking?
Yule at Azul includes mocktails, and the Fairmont Express is built around build-your-own hot cocoa. Skating at Four Seasons' Ice Rodeo works for the whole group.
Is there a Hanukkah bar in Austin?
Yes: Get Lit at Kitty Cohen's, an East Austin Hanukkah pop-up with themed drinks, decorations and food collaborations. Hanukkah runs December 4–12 in 2026.
Which places stay open after Christmas?
Miracle runs through December 30, and Four Seasons' Ice Rodeo continues through January 3, 2027. The two Lala's keep their Christmas decor all year. Holiday-day hours can differ, so check before you go.
