Most Festive Christmas Restaurants in NYC (2026)
Where to book for a room full of Christmas, a cozy neighborhood dinner, or a proper holiday splurge

Some New York Christmas dinners call for ornaments on every surface. Others call for a wreath in the window, a good bottle of wine, and a table you're happy to settle into for the night. The right pick depends on what you want the evening to feel like.
These are the restaurants we'd put on a Christmas shortlist across Manhattan and Brooklyn, from the showpiece rooms at Rolf's and Lillie's to old taverns, French brasseries, and special-occasion dining rooms. If you just want a casual dinner under the lights, start with Pete's Tavern or Skinflints. If you want a Broadway day with Christmas built in, Lillie's Times Square. If the food matters as much as the room, Gramercy Tavern, Keens, or Gage & Tollner. And if it's a date, One if by Land.
Planning for Christmas 2026: seasonal displays and holiday menus are still being announced. This guide includes year-round Christmas interiors and restaurants with established holiday traditions. If you're visiting in November or early January, check the decorating dates for the restaurant you've picked. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day often have separate menus and hours.

NYC Restaurants for a Room Full of Christmas
These are the places to pick when the decorations are a big part of the evening. Rolf's is the one people picture, Oscar Wilde and both Lillie's branches turn dinner into a stage set, La Grande Boucherie does it on a grand Midtown scale, and Skinflints is Brooklyn's answer, model trains included.
Showpiece Christmas rooms

Rolf's
281 3rd Ave, New York, NY 10010, USA
The Christmas restaurant people picture before they land in New York: ornaments packed above every table, lights through the whole room, and the display stays up most of the year. Go for the room, not the Bavarian comfort food. Weekday lunch is the sane time; dining reservations are by phone only (212-477-4750).

Oscar Wilde
45 W 27th St, New York, NY 10001, USA
An already excessive Victorian interior with Christmas trees and elaborate displays piled on top. Loud, crowded and fun, so bring a group that wants to dress up and order cocktails rather than a quiet catch-up. Book a table; the bar queue in December is no plan.

Lillie's Victorian Establishment (Union Square)
13 E 17th St, New York, NY 10003, USA
The Union Square branch, for a group that wants a restaurant that really looks like Christmas: greenery, ornaments and large decorative figures filling an ornate stained-glass room. Familiar pub food and cocktails; the decorations carry it. Opens at 4 p.m. Monday to Thursday, earlier Friday to Sunday.

Lillie's Victorian Establishment (Times Square)
249 W 49th St, New York, NY 10019, USA
The Times Square branch: the same lavish Victorian Christmas decorating, in the spot that makes sense on a Broadway day. Opens in the morning daily and serves afternoon tea, so it's the easier Lillie's for families and daytime plans. Tell the staff your curtain time and leave a generous buffer.

La Grande Boucherie
145 W 53rd St, New York, NY 10019, USA
Christmas on a grand scale: a soaring Art Nouveau passage dressed in lights and garlands, with French onion soup, steak frites and braised beef to match. Expect a real Midtown bill. The passage is covered and heated but open at both ends, so ask for an indoor table if you'd rather skip the cold.

Skinflints
7902 5th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11209, USA
A Bay Ridge institution that goes all in on Christmas, model trains included, which keeps kids looking around long after they've sat down. Simple American comfort food; the burger on an English muffin is the order. Pair it with a Dyker Heights lights outing. Seating has been first come, first served; call ahead for a larger party.
Cozy Pubs and Neighborhood Christmas Dinners in NYC
Warm rooms, familiar food, and enough Christmas atmosphere to make an ordinary dinner feel like an occasion. These are the easiest reservations in the guide to recommend to visitors, a casual date, or a family that just wants dinner surrounded by lights.
Cozy pubs and neighborhood dinners

Pete's Tavern
129 E 18th St, New York, NY 10003, USA
Dense red Christmas lights, old booths and vintage decorations make this the easiest casual Christmas dinner in the city. Burgers, chicken pot pie and pasta; under-21 guests are welcome at restaurant tables, just not at the bar. Resy for parties up to nine.

Loreley Beer Garden
7 Rivington St, New York, NY 10002, USA
Schnitzel, sausage platters and a drink in a beer garden that gets lights and decorations every winter; the 2026 holiday return is set for early November. Outdoor garden with heaters, so pick your seating area when you book on Tock. Relaxed and good for a group of friends.

Molly's Shebeen Bar + Restaurant
287 3rd Ave, New York, NY 10010, USA
A dark wood Irish pub with a real wood-burning fireplace, strings of lights and shepherd's pie, lamb stew or a burger and a pint on the table. One of the more affordable picks in this guide, and a block from Rolf's if you want to walk past the big show afterward. Call for tables.

White Oak Tavern
21 Waverly Pl, New York, NY 10003, USA
A gentler Christmas: garlands around the doorways, wreaths in the windows and candlelight in a rustic Village tavern. Burgers, chicken pot pie and fish and chips keep it centered on dinner and conversation. Good for a holiday catch-up with friends; 20% gratuity added for six or more.

The Ragtrader & Bo Peep Cocktail and Highball Store
Between 5th & 6th, 70 W 36th St., New York, NY 10018, USA
A former garment factory with exposed brick and vintage sewing details, dressed with garlands and candlelight for the holidays. Burger, pizza, pasta or a bigger main all fit the same table, which makes it easy for a mixed group near Herald Square. Bo Peep, the 21+ piano bar downstairs, takes separate bookings.

Rosemary's West Village
18 Greenwich Ave, New York, NY 10011, USA
The Christmas tree is on the roof, and the annual West Village tree lighting gives this corner of Greenwich Avenue a festive identity without ornaments everywhere. Housemade pasta, a bottle of wine, and a dinner that pairs well with time in the Village. Regular tables for up to seven; communal-table inquiry for eight to sixteen.
Classic Christmas Occasion Restaurants in NYC
The restaurants for a long lunch, a dressier dinner, or a holiday celebration worth planning ahead. Expect prix-fixe menus, dress codes, and reservation windows that open weeks out; the entries note each one.
Classic Christmas occasions

Tavern On the Green
Central Park, W 67th St, New York, NY 10023, USA
The courtyard tree, festive lighting and glass-walled dining rooms with Central Park around them: as unmistakably Christmas in New York as a meal gets. A splurge for a family celebration or a long holiday lunch. Holiday brunches and holiday-day services can carry different menus, and specific seating can't be guaranteed.

Balthazar
80 Spring St, New York, NY 10012, USA
Red banquettes, big mirrors and holiday greenery in a brasserie with real bustle, so even a simple lunch feels celebratory. Traditional French dishes, seafood and the bakery's bread; weekend brunch is a lovely start to a SoHo day. Romantic-looking but sociable and busy, not hushed. Resy, or call if your time isn't online.

Gramercy Tavern
42 E 20th St, New York, NY 10003, USA
The pick when dinner matters as much as the decorations: seasonal arrangements in a warm tavern room, and cooking you look forward to for weeks. The Tavern is à la carte from the wood-burning grill; the Dining Room runs a five-course seasonal menu, currently $178 per person. Reservations open 28 days ahead at noon; the bar is walk-in.

Keens Steakhouse
72 W 36th St., New York, NY 10018, USA
Wreaths, ribbons and a tree in a dark wood steakhouse that already feels like winter. The mutton chop is the order; steaks and seafood cover the rest. Good for dinner with parents or a holiday catch-up over a serious meal. Closed on Christmas Day, so book another date in the season.

One if by Land, Two if by Sea
17 Barrow St, New York, NY 10014, USA
A carriage house with brick fireplaces, low light and a piano: the romantic Christmas dinner. Dress-up, take-your-time, beef Wellington territory; business attire is the stated minimum. The 2026 Christmas Eve and Day menu is $195 per person plus 20% gratuity and tax, with reservations opening October 25.

The River Café
1 Water St, Brooklyn, NY 11201, USA
A courtyard glowing with holiday lights, then an elegant dining room with the Manhattan skyline in the windows. The regular dinner is a three-course prix fixe at $215 per person; check the holiday menu separately for December 24 and 25. Men need a jacket and collared shirt. Parties of five or more book by phone.

Gage & Tollner
372 Fulton St, Brooklyn, NY 11201, USA
Garlands and wreaths layered onto the mirrors, woodwork and chandeliers of a historic Downtown Brooklyn dining room. The oyster-and-chop-house menu is the other reason to come: seafood, a steak and dessert. Sunken Harbor Club upstairs is a separate cocktail booking. OpenTable, with a notify list if your time is gone.

The Russian Tea Room
150 W 57th St, New York, NY 10019, USA
Book the afternoon tea. Red leather banquettes, emerald walls and gold details keep Christmas ornamentation as part of the room's identity year-round, and it sits beside Carnegie Hall for a dressy holiday afternoon. Dinner (borscht, dumplings, stroganoff) is a separate booking from tea.
What to Expect to Spend at NYC Christmas Restaurants
The easiest way to keep the night manageable is to pick the format before you pick the restaurant. A pub main and a drink is a very different plan from a multi-course dinner. These are current regular menu examples, checked October 18, 2026, in US dollars, before drinks, tax, gratuity, and extras. Prices can change for special holiday services, and restaurants not listed here fall somewhere in between.
| Restaurant | Current regular menu example | The kind of meal |
|---|---|---|
| Molly's Shebeen | 6-ounce beef burger $17; 10-ounce $19 | A simple pub meal |
| White Oak Tavern | Burger $23; chicken pot pie $24 | A casual tavern dinner |
| Pete's Tavern | Gramercy Burger $25 | A casual dinner under the lights |
| The Ragtrader | Burger $25; rigatoni alla vodka $26 | An easy menu for mixed appetites |
| La Grande Boucherie | Dinner steak frites $58 | A larger brasserie bill |
| Gramercy Tavern Dining Room | Regular seasonal menu $178 per person | A five-course dinner |
| The River Café | Regular three-course dinner $215 per person | A formal occasion |
How to Plan a Christmas Meal in NYC You'll Enjoy
Pick the time of day to suit the outing. For a family trip or a day of sightseeing, lunch or an early dinner leaves more room to enjoy the meal. For a big night with friends, the energy at Oscar Wilde or Lillie's may be part of what you're after. A weekday daytime reservation is our first choice when skipping the evening rush matters more than Saturday-night atmosphere.
Match the restaurant to the neighborhood. For Broadway, start with Lillie's Times Square or La Grande Boucherie. Around Union Square, Pete's, Lillie's Union Square, Gramercy Tavern, and Molly's give you different versions of the same few blocks. For a SoHo day, Balthazar. The Village suits White Oak, Rosemary's, or One if by Land. In Brooklyn, plan around where you're actually going: DUMBO for The River Café, Downtown Brooklyn for Gage & Tollner, Bay Ridge for Skinflints.
Book the meal you actually want. A bar seat, a dining table, afternoon tea, and a holiday prix fixe can all be different reservations. That matters most at Lillie's, the Russian Tea Room, Tavern on the Green, and anywhere with a separate bar upstairs or downstairs. For Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, check the offering for that exact date.
Tell the restaurant what matters. Mention kids, dietary needs, a curtain time, or a preference for indoor seating when you book. If the whole outing depends on a particular decorated room, ask which seating area your reservation covers. A photo from the restaurant's holiday gallery doesn't promise that view from every table.
Build in some breathing room. Make one main restaurant reservation and keep the rest of the outing flexible. A long line, a delayed table, or a crowded walk is a lot less frustrating when it isn't threatening another expensive booking.
More NYC Christmas Restaurants to Watch for 2026
A few more restaurant traditions worth keeping an eye on as their 2026 Christmas details are announced. None of these is a confirmed 2026 event yet, so check the restaurant's own announcement for dates, prices, and the right reservation before building a night around one.
Seasonal favorites to watch (2026 dates TBC)

Sunday In Brooklyn
348 Wythe Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11249, USA
Home of Snowday, a recurring holiday dinner takeover with decorations and a seasonal food-and-drink menu. It's a dinner plan, not the famous brunch, so wait for the 2026 dates and the right reservation before building a night around it.

Black Forest Brooklyn
733 Fulton St, Brooklyn, NY 11217, USA
A German Christmas meal, and in past seasons a caroling program with food, festive drinks and live singalongs. Check the 2026 announcement for location (there's a second restaurant on Smith Street), date and any ticket requirement.

The Dead Rabbit
30 Water St, New York, NY 10004, USA
Jingle Jangle, the Dead Rabbit's recurring Christmas takeover, pairs an elaborately decorated Irish pub with hearty food like shepherd's pie. A good dinner for a night that keeps going over drinks. Look for the 2026 announcement and book the intended room.

Roberta's
261 Moore St, Brooklyn, NY 11206, USA
Roberta's has hosted Grinchy's in its backyard Tiki Bar, a holiday space full of lights and garlands with its own food and drink. A pizza dinner plus the pop-up makes a fun Brooklyn night; a regular pizza reservation doesn't automatically include the holiday bar. Check the 2026 details.
