Hotel Drover sits at the end of Mule Alley in the Fort Worth Stockyards, a 200-room Autograph Collection hotel built in the old mule barns, and its wedding venue is The Barn: 30-foot timber ceilings, Italian crystal chandeliers, Texas stone and a built-in bar, with a lawn of loblolly pines out the back for the ceremony. Upstairs there's Legacy Hall and a set of smaller rooms for rehearsal dinners and brunches.

What makes it different from most Dallas–Fort Worth venues is that it's a working hotel in a lively neighborhood, not a country estate. Guests sleep upstairs or down the street, spend the afternoon in the Stockyards and walk to dinner. The trade-off is how the money works: you're buying a room rental plus a food-and-beverage minimum, not a venue package, and the hotel's wedding room block is much smaller than the hotel. This guide covers both.

The RoamRecs Take

Drover's real advantage is that the reception room and the weekend belong to the same place. The Barn already has the timber, the stone and the chandeliers, so you're not building atmosphere into a blank ballroom, and the Stockyards give guests somewhere to eat, drink, shop and watch the cattle drive between events. Nobody needs a shuttle to get from the bar to the wedding. For a destination wedding in Texas that still feels like Fort Worth, very little else in the region does this as naturally.

The Barn is also a genuine weather advantage. Dinner and dancing are indoors from the start, so a storm doesn't move the reception into a backup room. What needs planning is everything before dinner: where you say your vows and where guests have drinks if the lawn is out. The clear tent helps, and it's now offered year-round, but the smartest couples price an indoor ceremony option on day one.

We'd plan for 120 to 180 guests. The Barn's real limits are 200 with a band on a stage and a rented dance floor, or 225 with a DJ on the existing floor, and the room is happiest with some space to spare around the bar and the dance floor. Above 200, the entertainment decision becomes a capacity decision.

The catches are financial and practical. The food-and-beverage minimum is the same whether you invite 100 guests or 180, so a small wedding in the Barn pays for more hospitality than it needs. And a 200-room hotel doesn't come with a 200-room block: the standard wedding block tops out at 25 rooms, so plan an overflow hotel from the start.

Best for: Couples with 120 to 180 guests who love the existing interiors, want hotel catering and a lively Stockyards weekend, and like the idea of guests walking everywhere.

Think twice if: You want a private buyout, your own caterer, a small and inexpensive wedding, or a party that goes late outdoors.

How Much Does a Hotel Drover Wedding Cost?

A Drover wedding is priced in two parts: a rental for the event space and a food-and-beverage minimum, the amount your banquet food and bar must reach. Both move with the date, and the hotel quotes each date individually rather than working from a rate card. These are the 2026 dates the hotel has quoted:

2026 dateRoom rentalFood-and-beverage minimumCombined, before service and tax
Saturday, August 22$5,000$30,000$35,000
Sunday, August 23$2,500$22,500$25,000
Saturday, December 19$15,000$35,000$50,000
Saturday, December 26$15,000$35,000$50,000

December holiday Saturdays sit at the top of the range; a Sunday in high summer at the bottom. For 2027, ask for a written quote on the exact dates you're weighing and make sure it names every space the rental covers: the Barn, the lawn, any ceremony or backup room.

The minimum isn't an extra fee on top of dinner. If your banquet food and bar come to $38,000, you pay $38,000; if they come to $30,000 against a $35,000 minimum, the $5,000 gap is billed as additional room rental. Only wedding banquet spending counts. Guest rooms, valet, the lobby and restaurant bars, bartender fees, AV and outside vendors don't, and a welcome party on another day carries its own minimum.

On top of everything, budget a 25% service charge and 8.25% Texas sales tax, which also applies to the service charge. Together they add a little over 35%, which turns the $50,000 December base into roughly $67,700.

ExtraCost
Bartenders$150 each for the first two hours, then $75 an hour; one per 75 guests
Chef attendants (stations)Same rates; one per 75 guests
Private tasting$150 per person, up to four, weekdays (a group tasting is included)
Guarantee increase on the final day$500
Room reset after setup$150
Welcome bags$2 at check-in, $5 delivered to rooms
Valet parking$35 for 4 to 6 hours, $40 for 6 to 8, $53 overnight
Outside AV companyHotel fee applies; Encore is in house

The final guest count is due five business days out and can't go down after that, and full prepayment is due three business days before the wedding unless the hotel has approved credit. Menu prices are only locked 30 days before the date, so ask how the hotel handles increases between booking and then.

Estimated Wedding Budget

These are RoamRecs planning ranges for a wedding day at December 2026 pricing, including the hotel's service charge and tax, a planner, photography and video, flowers, entertainment and local transport. They leave out guest rooms, travel, attire, rings and any welcome or farewell events.

WeddingTypical total
100 guests$105,000 to $145,000
150 guests$110,000 to $175,000
200 guests$125,000 to $220,000
Category150 guests
Rental plus food and bar, with service and tax$67,700 to $81,200
Bartenders, with service and taxAbout $1,000
Planner or day-of coordinator$6,000 to $12,000
Flowers and design$8,000 to $20,000
Lighting, sound and rental upgrades$3,500 to $10,000
Photography and video$8,000 to $14,000
DJ or band$2,000 to $10,000
Local guest transport$1,000 to $3,500
Cake, officiant, stationery and beauty$3,500 to $6,000
Contingency, about 10%$10,000 to $15,800

Notice how little the 100-guest wedding saves. With the minimum fixed, cutting the list mostly cuts the extras, not the hotel bill. If the guest count is coming down, a different date, a Sunday or a smaller room will do more than removing tables from the Barn. House tables, leather banquet chairs, glassware, flatware and black or white floor-length linens are included, so the rentals line is for upgrades only.

The Barn is the wedding. It's 4,000 square feet with 30-foot vaulted ceilings, four custom Italian crystal chandeliers, 150-year-old reclaimed timber and a built-in bar, and it's on the ground floor opening onto the lawn. The hotel lists larger event numbers for the room, but those are standing and conference layouts. For a seated wedding with a dance floor, work with 200 or 225.

The Barn Lawn is the ceremony: about 2,500 square feet of grass ringed by mature loblolly pines, a few steps from the Barn doors. It's a ceremony and cocktail space, not somewhere to seat dinner.

Legacy Hall is upstairs and booked separately, a more polished room with a covered terrace. It works as an indoor ceremony room, a second reception room for a smaller wedding, or a rehearsal dinner space. The smaller Vaquero and Ranchero rooms suit a rehearsal dinner or a morning-after brunch. The hotel's 97 West Kitchen & Bar also does private dining for up to 40.

Our starting plan for 150 guests: ceremony on the lawn, cocktails on the lawn and in the prefunction area, dinner and dancing in the Barn. Ask for a drawn floor plan at your count with the band or DJ, bars and dance floor in place; the hotel itself notes that bigger guest counts shrink the dance floor and slow the built-in bar.

What Is the Rain Plan at Hotel Drover?

Dinner is never the problem. The Barn is indoors, so when it rains the reception goes ahead exactly as planned. The question is the ceremony and cocktail hour.

There are three ways to handle it. The first is the clear tent over the Barn Lawn, now available year-round on request: it keeps the lawn setting, but it's a separate booking with its own cost, sidewalls, flooring and heating or cooling to arrange, and it's no use in lightning or high wind. The second is an indoor ceremony room, usually Legacy Hall, which you need to reserve in advance rather than assume will be free. The third is holding the ceremony in the Barn itself, which means guests wait somewhere else while the room flips to dinner, so the reset time and the holding space both need to be in the timeline.

The hotel makes the weather call. Its policy is to move an outdoor event inside if the forecast four hours before shows a 40% chance of rain, or if safety is at risk, and there's a $150 fee if both an indoor and outdoor setup are needed. In a North Texas spring, storms are a bigger risk than drizzle, so agree the backup room, the decision time and who's responsible with your planner before you sign.

Accommodation and Where Guests Should Stay

Yes, guests can stay at the venue: Hotel Drover has 200 rooms and suites, from kings and double queens to family rooms with bunks. The catch is the wedding block. The hotel's standard terms are a minimum of 10 rooms and a maximum of 25 per night, at rates set by availability, with a 30-day cutoff and 90% attrition. That means you're responsible for 90% of the rooms you contract, even though guests pay their own bills, and the block can't be increased once it's signed.

Twenty-five rooms covers about 50 people. For a 150-guest wedding with most people traveling, that leaves 100 guests booking outside the block, either at Drover's regular rates if rooms are available or at a second hotel. We'd put the wedding party and close family in the Drover block, choose an overflow hotel at the same time as the date, and ask whether rooms booked outside the block can be credited toward it.

Standard check-in is 4 p.m., too late to get ready in, so book the getting-ready suite for the night before. A bridal suite isn't included with the wedding. The pool is for registered hotel guests only, which matters if half your group is staying elsewhere.

Keep everyone in the Stockyards if you can. A downtown Fort Worth block works, but then you're running shuttles all weekend, and splitting guests between Fort Worth and Dallas makes every gathering harder.

Catering, Vendors and the Party

Food and drink come from the hotel. The one outside exception is a wedding cake from a licensed, insured baker; other outside food or alcohol needs the catering team's approval. For a plated dinner you can offer two proteins plus a vegetarian or vegan option, with everyone charged at the higher entrée price.

The bar comes two ways: a per-person package for a set number of hours, where every guest 21 and over counts whether they drink or not, or a consumption bar billed on what's poured. If many of your guests don't drink, price both. Signature cocktails, passed drinks and wine with dinner can sit outside a package, so ask for a complete drinks schedule covering cocktails, dinner and dancing.

An independent wedding planner or day-of coordinator is required. The hotel gives you an event contact and a banquet butler for the two of you during the reception, but the hotel team runs the food, service and building, not your timeline, family, vendors and ceremony.

The rules that shape production:

  • Setup time: two hours before the event, with breakdown straight after. More guaranteed time costs extra, and free extra access is only confirmed about two weeks out.
  • Rehearsal: free when space is open, with a guaranteed slot booked separately.
  • Vendors: $1 million in liability insurance. Encore is the in-house AV company; outside AV pays a hotel fee.
  • Décor: nothing fixed to walls, floors or ceilings; candles must be enclosed.
  • Send-offs: no sparklers, confetti, rice or fireworks.
  • Deliveries: no earlier than three working days ahead, labeled, with possible handling fees.

The reception runs up to five hours, not counting the ceremony. The hotel controls outdoor sound, so the lawn is for the ceremony and cocktails and the party belongs in the Barn. Get the last-music time, last call and any extension rate in writing before you book a band.

The Barn Lawn is the classic Drover ceremony. Indoors, Legacy Hall is the usual alternative, booked as its own space. Couples marrying in a church often bring guests back to the Barn for the reception, which works well given how central the hotel is.

For a legal Texas wedding you need a marriage license and an authorized officiant. In Tarrant County the license is $76, plus $100 if neither of you can prove Texas residency, there's a 72-hour wait after it's issued unless an exception applies, and it's valid for 90 days. Couples flying in should sort it well before the wedding week. Tarrant County also offers a video option for the formal license.

Getting There and Transportation

Dallas Love Field (DAL)Car via I-30 or TX-18345 to 65 minutes
Downtown Fort WorthCar north on Main Street10 to 20 minutes
TEXRail North Side StationShort taxi or rideshare5 to 10 minutes

TEXRail runs from DFW Terminal B to North Side Station in about 41 minutes, which suits light packers; it's not at the hotel, so guests still need a short ride. The hotel doesn't run an airport shuttle, and its house car is a first-come service within 10 miles, not wedding transport. Parking at the hotel is valet only, with paid self-parking elsewhere in the Stockyards.

Do Wedding Guests Need a Car?

Not if they stay in the Stockyards. From Drover or the nearby hotels, everything on the wedding day is a short walk, and the weekend's bars and restaurants are on the same streets. Guests flying in can take a rideshare or TEXRail from DFW. Arrange vehicles only for guests who can't comfortably walk, for an off-site ceremony, or for anyone staying downtown, and agree the loading spot and late pickup with the hotel; Mule Alley isn't a place to park a coach all evening.

Best Time of Year for a Hotel Drover Wedding

April, October and early November are the picks for a lawn ceremony: highs in the 60s and 70s and comfortable evenings. April and May bring spring storms, and May is the wettest month, so take the indoor ceremony plan seriously then. June to September is hot, which suits an indoor-first wedding with a short ceremony at dusk better than a long cocktail hour on the grass. Winter works well for a warm, candlelit Barn wedding, but December isn't cheaper: the holiday Saturdays carry the highest quotes of the year.

Check the citywide calendar too. The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo runs January 15 to February 6, 2027, across town at Will Rogers and Dickies Arena, and big weekends fill hotels citywide.

Best For / Things to Consider

Best for: Couples with 120 to 180 guests who want a Western hotel wedding with real character, an indoor reception that ignores the weather, hotel catering, and a weekend where guests walk between the hotel, the bars and the wedding.

Things to consider: The food-and-beverage minimum doesn't shrink with the guest list. Room blocks top out at 25 rooms, with 90% attrition. The lawn ceremony needs a planned backup. A planner is required, catering is in-house only, and a 25% service charge plus tax adds about 35% to the hotel bill.

Questions to Ask Before Booking

  • What are the rental and food-and-beverage minimum for our exact date and guest count?
  • Which spaces does the rental reserve: the Barn, the lawn, the prefunction area, Legacy Hall? For how many hours?
  • What does the clear tent cost on our date, and what's included: sidewalls, flooring, heating or cooling?
  • If it rains, which room hosts the ceremony and where do guests wait while the Barn is set?
  • Does the 25% service charge apply to the rental and any minimum shortfall as well as food and drink?
  • Can we see a floor plan at our count with our band or DJ, the bars and the dance floor?
  • What time does amplified music stop and the bar close, and what does an extra hour cost?
  • How many rooms can we block, how is the 90% attrition measured, and do rooms booked outside the block count?
  • Which suite can we use to get ready, and from what time?
  • What are the deposit, payment and cancellation terms?

Similar Wedding Venues to Compare

  • Bowie House, Cultural District: a newer Western-luxe hotel with 106 rooms and a spa. Better if you love the Western look but want something sleeker and quieter than the Stockyards.
  • The Crescent Hotel Fort Worth, Cultural District: a ballroom listed for 300 at banquet rounds. Better when the guest list is past what the Barn can seat.
  • Stockyards Station: event halls in the same district, run separately from any hotel. Better if you want the Stockyards setting with more freedom over where guests stay.
  • The Olana, Hickory Creek: a French-inspired mansion seating 250 with an all-indoor rain plan. Better for a grand, private venue day north of Dallas.
  • Knotting Hill Place, Little Elm: a European-style estate with a cathedral and ballroom each listed for 300. Better for bigger lists and a self-contained day.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Hotel Drover wedding cost?
The hotel prices each date individually. For December 2026 Saturdays it quoted a $15,000 rental plus a $35,000 food-and-beverage minimum, about $67,700 with service charge and tax; summer and Sunday dates were quoted lower. A full 150-guest wedding typically totals $110,000 to $175,000.
How does the food-and-beverage minimum work?
It's the least your banquet food and bar must add up to, not an extra fee. Spend more and you pay what you spend; spend less and the gap is billed as room rental. Guest rooms, restaurant bills and bartender fees don't count toward it.
How many guests can Hotel Drover hold for a wedding?
The Barn seats up to 200 for dinner with a stage and rented dance floor, or 225 with a DJ on the existing floor. The Barn Lawn seats 225 for the ceremony.
What happens if it rains?
Dinner is already indoors in the Barn. For the ceremony, book the clear lawn tent, reserve an indoor room such as Legacy Hall, or plan a Barn ceremony with a room flip. The hotel moves outdoor events inside when the forecast four hours out shows a 40% chance of rain.
Can guests stay at Hotel Drover?
Yes. It has 200 rooms and suites, but standard wedding blocks are 10 to 25 rooms with 90% attrition, so most larger weddings also block a nearby Stockyards hotel such as Hyatt Place, SpringHill Suites or Courtyard.
Can we bring our own caterer or alcohol?
No. Catering and bar are in-house. The only standard outside-food exception is a wedding cake from a licensed, insured baker.
Do we need a wedding planner?
Yes. An independent planner or day-of coordinator is required. The hotel provides an event contact and a banquet butler, but not wedding planning.
How long can the reception last?
Up to five hours, not counting the ceremony. Agree the last-music time, last call and any extension rate in writing.
Which airport is closest to Hotel Drover?
DFW International, about 35 to 50 minutes by car. TEXRail runs from DFW to North Side Station in about 41 minutes, a short ride from the hotel.
What is the best month for a Hotel Drover wedding?
April, October and early November for a lawn ceremony with comfortable evenings. Summer suits an indoor-first wedding, and December is atmospheric but priced at the top of the year.
