The Dallas Arboretum is 66 acres of gardens on the eastern shore of White Rock Lake, about 20 minutes from downtown, and it sells weddings the way a city venue should: book a reception venue and its paired ceremony garden for the day, then go home to your hotel. There are four reception choices for 2027. Rosine Hall is the indoor ballroom, A Tasteful Place is the glass pavilion, DeGolyer Loggia is an arcaded terrace on the old estate, and Alex Camp House is a lakeside lawn wedding.

The choice between them is less about which garden photographs best and more about where dinner happens when the forecast turns. Two of the four are built indoors, two are built outside, and that one decision shapes the budget, the music curfew and the rain plan. This guide covers all of it.

The RoamRecs Take

The Arboretum's real advantage is that it's a serious garden inside the city. Guests stay at a proper Dallas hotel, ride 20 minutes to the ceremony, and are back in Uptown or on Mockingbird Lane for the after-party. No other venue in North Texas gives you this much planted landscape without a long drive into the country, and the paired ceremony garden comes with every reception, so the setting isn't an extra line on the bill.

Rosine Hall is the safe and sensible pick. It seats 350 indoors with a DJ, its ceremony garden is steps away, and when it rains the vows simply move inside onto the dance floor. A Tasteful Place does the same job for 100 to 150 guests in a glass pavilion where the gardens stay in view. DeGolyer Loggia and Alex Camp House are the more romantic weddings, on lawns and terraces looking over the lake, but they come with a 10:30 p.m. outdoor music cutoff, a required lighting package and a tent that starts around $14,000 if the weather turns. Price those weddings with the tent in from day one.

The value play is the calendar. Every reception is 30% off Sunday to Friday, which turns a $14,500 Saturday at Rosine Hall into $10,150 on a Friday, and September now sits in the off-peak tier. What you can't change: the Arboretum is a public garden, so it's your venue and your garden, not the whole 66 acres, and a planner, an approved caterer and an approved tent company are part of every reception.

Best for: Couples with 120 to 300 guests who want a garden ceremony, a reliable indoor dinner and a hotel-based city weekend.

Think twice if: You want guests sleeping on site, dancing outside past 10:30, a fully private estate, or your own choice of caterer.

How Much Does a Dallas Arboretum Wedding Cost?

Each reception rental includes its paired ceremony garden, so you pay once for both. Peak season is March, April, May, October, November and December; January, February and June to September are off-peak. Sunday to Friday weddings get 30% off the rental.

A Tasteful Place is quoted on request for 2027; the figures above reflect its current listing, so confirm the exact rate with the sales team.

Then come the add-ons that matter. Going past your contracted hours costs $600 an hour, taken from the deposit. DeGolyer and Camp House require outdoor string lighting from Big D Party Rentals, and a garden tent from the same company starts at about $14,000 if you need one. Extra tables are $10 each, card payments carry a 3% fee, and loose petals that aren't fully cleared cost $250. The deposit comes back by mailed check within 30 days.

Ceremony-Only Weddings

If dinner is happening somewhere else, the Arboretum rents its gardens on their own for a short ceremony. These rentals are daytime or early evening, include admission for your guests, and don't come with a getting-ready room, so everyone arrives dressed.

Classic and Grand gardens include white garden chairs; Intimate gardens are standing only. Daytime ceremonies can't use a DJ or amplified band under the city noise ordinance, but strings or a small speaker at conversation volume are fine.

Estimated Wedding Budget

These are RoamRecs planning ranges for a peak-season Saturday, before sales tax, guest travel, attire and rings. Moving to a Sunday to Friday date takes the 30% saving off the rental line only.

The Camp House figure is higher for a reason: a band, the required string lighting and a lawn tent with flooring and sidewalls add $20,000 or more that an indoor Rosine wedding never spends. Linens aren't included at any venue, so budget them at every size.

Rosine Hall is the one to beat for anything over 200. It seats 350 at rounds with a DJ, includes up to thirty 72-inch tables and oak Chiavari chairs, and its ceremony happens in Jonsson Color Garden under the big tree or along Crape Myrtle Allée, chosen when you book. The Allée seats 300 for a ceremony, so a 350-guest wedding needs the Jonsson garden.

A Tasteful Place is the most modern of the four, a glass pavilion that keeps the gardens in view through dinner. It works best at 100 to 150, with ceremony at Bigham Overlook and cocktails in the Potager Garden.

DeGolyer Loggia is the old DeGolyer Estate's arcaded terrace, roofed but open on the garden side. It feels like an estate wedding in the middle of the city, with the lake just beyond the gardens.

Alex Camp House is the full outdoor wedding: a historic lakeside house, a lawn running toward White Rock Lake, and the longest day in the building, from 10 a.m. Dinner is on the lawn or terrace, not inside the house, which is why the tent decision matters most here.

What Happens if It Rains?

At Rosine Hall and A Tasteful Place, rain is a minor change: the ceremony moves indoors and the couple says their vows on the dance floor with guests already at their dinner tables. Nothing needs to be rented, and the evening runs as planned.

At DeGolyer Loggia and Alex Camp House, the rain plan is a garden tent from Big D Party Rentals, the Arboretum's exclusive tent company, starting at about $14,000. You have until the Monday before the wedding to commit. Tents go up on Tuesday or Wednesday and come down the following Tuesday, and if another couple has booked a tent that week, you'll use the complimentary tent the Arboretum provides, so a tent-free lawn can't be promised even on a dry day. In the rain, the ceremony moves under the tent with guests seated at their reception tables. Camp House also includes a 20 by 40-foot terrace tent for up to 80 guests in the peak months, useful for cocktails but not for dinner at full count.

In North Texas spring, storms are the bigger risk than drizzle. A tent is no shelter from lightning, so agree with your planner and the event facilitator who makes the call to move indoors, and where everyone goes.

Accommodation and Where Guests Should Stay

Nobody sleeps at the Arboretum. The bridal suites at Rosine, DeGolyer and Camp House are for getting ready, so the hotel block is your base for the weekend. Keep it to one hub: Mockingbird Lane near SMU or downtown, not both, and run a single shuttle loop.

HotelWhy stay hereGetting to the Arboretum
The Highland DallasFull-service hotel at Mockingbird and Central Expressway with a wedding team; the easy room-block pick15 to 25 minutes
Hotel MockingbirdSame Mockingbird hub, formerly The Beeman; a good second block15 to 25 minutes
The AdolphusHistoric downtown hotel for guests who want the city at the door20 to 35 minutes

For a getting-ready plan, the hotel usually wins. DeGolyer's Green Room opens at 2 p.m. and Rosine's bridal suite at 2 p.m. on Saturdays (3 p.m. Fridays), so hair and makeup with a big bridal party belongs at the hotel. Camp House is the exception, with its bridal suite open from 10 a.m.

Catering, Vendors and the Party

Catering comes from the Arboretum's approved list: Beyond the Box, Culinary Art Catering, Gil's Elegant Catering, Low Country Quisine, Vestals Catering and Wolfgang Puck Catering, which is the listed option for kosher and specialty cuisines. Valet, tents and outdoor lighting also come from approved vendors.

The bar is where the rules have shifted. The 2027 wedding guide lets couples supply their own alcohol for a corkage fee of $500 to $2,500 based on guest count, served by your caterer's TABC-certified bartenders. Proof of the Pudding still describes itself as the Arboretum's exclusive bar provider, with no outside alcohol, so get the bar arrangement for your date in writing before you buy a case of anything.

A professional planner or day-of coordinator with insurance is required for every reception. The Arboretum's event facilitator runs load-in and the property on the day, not your timeline. Vendors can arrive no earlier than your rental start, and no earlier than 4 p.m. in the ceremony gardens and cocktail areas. Delivery vehicles can't drive into the gardens, so florists and rental companies bring their own carts and crew.

Alex Camp House10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.Bridal suite 10 a.m., groom's room noon10:30 p.m., 55 dB cap

The Arboretum recommends a 5:30 p.m. ceremony. Outdoor sound checks are allowed only from 4 to 5 p.m., and after 10:30 at Camp House the options are acoustic strings or a silent disco. If the party matters more than the lawn, that's a strong argument for Rosine Hall, or for an after-party back at the hotel.

Any garden ceremony can be legally binding with a Texas marriage license and an authorized officiant. The license carries a 72-hour waiting period, which a state-approved premarital course waives, and it's valid for 90 days. Couples flying in should pick it up from the Dallas County Clerk at least three days before a Saturday wedding.

Real petals only, in white or ivory, and no balloons or open flames in the gardens without approval. Ask about candles, sparklers, confetti and anything hung from trees before you design around them.

Do Wedding Guests Need a Car?

No, if you run a shuttle, and you should. Public transit isn't a practical way to the gates at night, and the Arboretum's tram and golf carts don't run in the evening. Send the entrance assigned to your event rather than the main address (the Arboretum has a main gate at 8525 Garland Road, Gate 3 at 8657 and a garage at 8720), confirm where a coach can turn and load, and run an early return as well as a last one.

Best Time of Year for a Dallas Arboretum Wedding

April and mid to late October are the picks for an outdoor wedding: warm days, comfortable evenings and the gardens at their best, with Dallas Blooms in spring and the autumn displays in fall. The trade-off is that both are peak-priced and spring brings storms; May is the wettest month of the year. September is now off-peak, but still runs near 90°F, so it suits an indoor Rosine wedding better than a lawn. June to August is cheaper and hot, and January and February are the quiet, indoor-first value months.

Seasonal programming shares the grounds: fall's pumpkin festival, the holiday season in November and December, and Thursday-night concerts. Ask what's on the calendar for your date.

Best For / Things to Consider

Best for: Couples with 120 to 300 guests who want a real garden ceremony without leaving the city, a full indoor rain plan at Rosine Hall or A Tasteful Place, and a hotel-based weekend. Also one of the best weekday values in Dallas, at 30% off.

Things to consider: No rooms on site. Outdoor music ends at 10:30 at DeGolyer and Camp House, and their tent starts around $14,000. A planner, an approved caterer and approved tent and lighting vendors are required, and you share the garden with the public during the day.

Questions to Ask Before Booking

  • What is the exact 2027 rate for our venue and date, and does the 30% Sunday to Friday discount apply to it?
  • For A Tasteful Place, what is the confirmed 2027 rental and deposit?
  • Is bar service through our caterer with corkage, or through Proof of the Pudding, for our date?
  • At DeGolyer or Camp House, what does the Big D tent and required string lighting cost at our guest count?
  • Will another event have a tent on the lawn the week of our wedding?
  • Can we see a seated floor plan at our count with the band or DJ and dance floor in place?
  • Which garden paths and areas are private to us, and what else is happening on site that day?
  • What time can our planner, florist and caterer arrive, and where do they unload?
  • Which entrance do guests use, and where can a full-size coach park and turn?
  • How are the deposit, payments and any weather postponement handled in the contract?

Similar Wedding Venues to Compare

  • Nasher Sculpture Center, Arts District: a sculpture garden with indoor galleries and Wolfgang Puck catering. Better for a smaller, design-led city wedding.
  • Arlington Hall at Turtle Creek Park: a 1939 Greek Revival hall with terraces in Turtle Creek. Better when a historic building matters more than a big garden.
  • The Adolphus, Downtown: historic ballrooms with guest rooms upstairs. Better when keeping everyone under one roof beats a garden ceremony.
  • The Olana, Hickory Creek: a French-inspired mansion seating 250 with an all-indoor rain plan and in-house catering. Better for a grand interior and fewer vendors to hire.
  • Knotting Hill Place, Little Elm: a European-style estate with a cathedral and ballroom each listed for 300. Better for bigger lists and a self-contained day.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Dallas Arboretum wedding cost?
Reception rentals for 2027 run $12,000 to $21,000 depending on venue and season, with the ceremony garden included and 30% off Sunday to Friday. A full 200-guest Saturday at Rosine Hall typically totals $85,000 to $150,000 once catering, bar, a planner and the rest are added.
Is the ceremony included with the reception?
Yes. Every reception rental includes its paired ceremony garden: Jonsson Color Garden or Crape Myrtle Allée for Rosine Hall, Bigham Overlook for A Tasteful Place, A Woman's Garden or the Sunken Garden for DeGolyer, and the Camp House gardens.
How many guests can the Dallas Arboretum hold?
Rosine Hall seats up to 350 with a DJ or 300 with a band. DeGolyer Loggia seats up to 225, Alex Camp House up to 230, and A Tasteful Place up to 150.
What happens if it rains?
At Rosine Hall and A Tasteful Place the ceremony moves indoors with guests at their dinner tables. At DeGolyer and Camp House the rain plan is a tent from Big D Party Rentals, from about $14,000, confirmed by the Monday before.
Can guests stay at the Dallas Arboretum?
No. There are getting-ready rooms but no guest rooms. Most couples block The Highland Dallas or Hotel Mockingbird on Mockingbird Lane, 15 to 25 minutes away, and run a shuttle.
Can we bring our own caterer or alcohol?
Catering must come from the Arboretum's list of six approved caterers. The 2027 guide allows your own alcohol for a $500 to $2,500 corkage fee, served by the caterer's bartenders; confirm the bar arrangement for your date.
What time does the music end?
Indoors at Rosine Hall and A Tasteful Place, amplified music can run until midnight. Outdoors at DeGolyer Loggia and Alex Camp House, it ends at 10:30 p.m.
Do we need a wedding planner?
Yes. Every reception requires a professional planner or day-of coordinator with insurance. Ceremony-only rentals don't, though the Arboretum recommends one.
Can we book just a ceremony?
Yes. Intimate standing ceremonies start at $700 for 10 guests, seated garden ceremonies run $1,500 to $3,000, and the large evening gardens, including Crape Myrtle Allée for 300, run $3,500 to $5,000.
What is the best month for a Dallas Arboretum wedding?
April and mid to late October, for comfortable evenings and the gardens at their peak. For a lower rental, September is now off-peak but hot, so plan it around Rosine Hall.
