The Room on Main is a sixth-floor ballroom in a restored 1912 building on Main Street in downtown Dallas, with 30-foot ceilings, 15-foot windows, chandeliers and the original wood floors. The number that defines it is the rental: $8,995 on a peak-season Saturday, $6,495 on a peak Friday or Sunday, and as little as $4,495 on an off-peak weekday, for up to 320 guests at dinner.
The rental is the start, not the bill. CN Catering handles food, bar and rentals exclusively, the event itself runs five hours, and guests sleep in downtown hotels a short walk away. This guide covers what a full wedding costs, how the room works at your guest count, what happens in the rain and where to put everyone.

The RoamRecs Take
The Room on Main is a city-ballroom wedding without the hotel attached. Most downtown Dallas ballrooms sit inside hotels and feel like it; this one is a standalone room on the top floor of an old Main Street building, and the windows do most of the decorating. In daylight the room is bright and airy. After dark the chandeliers and skyline take over. Spend on table settings and good evening lighting, and skip the full transformation.
The other thing that sets it apart is price. At $8,995 on a peak Saturday, the rental sits well below The Olana's $22,000 or Knotting Hill Place's $14,500 for the same day, and an off-peak or weekday date brings it under $6,500. The catch is that CN Catering is exclusive for food, drink and rentals, so the real cost of the wedding lives in that proposal. Get it at the same time as the venue quote, not after you've paid the deposit.
The sweet spot is 150 to 250 guests. That's enough people to give a 6,000-square-foot room energy, with space left for a proper dance floor and comfortable service aisles. The 320 maximum is real, but at that size a band, bars and a dance floor need a drawn plan. Smaller weddings work too, as long as you pull the tables into one part of the room rather than spreading them across the floor.
Best for: Couples who want an indoor downtown wedding with real architecture, guests in walkable hotels and a venue rental that leaves money for everything else.
Think twice if: You want a garden ceremony, guests sleeping in the same building, your own caterer or a party that runs well past five hours.

How Much Does a Wedding at The Room on Main Cost?
The rental is priced by season and day of the week. Peak season runs March to June and September to December; January, February, July and August are off-peak. Every wedding rental includes the same 12-hour window: six hours of setup, a five-hour event and one hour of strike. Holiday dates can be priced differently.
| Day | Peak (Mar to Jun, Sep to Dec) | Off-peak (Jan, Feb, Jul, Aug) |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday | $8,995 | $6,495 |
| Sunday to Friday | $6,495 | $4,495 |
| Item | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Booking deposit | 50% of the rental | Nonrefundable; due with the contract and counts toward the rental |
| Balance | Installment plans available | Get the due dates in the contract |
| Food, bar and rentals | Custom CN Catering proposal | Exclusive; ask for the minimum spend for your date |
| Security | At least one officer | Required at every event; priced in your quote |
| Valet | Optional | Extra fee |
The single biggest saving is the calendar. Moving a peak Saturday to a Friday or Sunday saves $2,500, and so does moving it to an off-peak month. July and August are worth a serious look because the whole wedding is indoors: the room doesn't care that it's 96°F outside. October and December are still priced as peak.
Estimated Wedding Budget
These are RoamRecs planning ranges for a peak-season Saturday with five event hours, a DJ and planning support. They include service charges and tax on food and drink and a 10% contingency, and exclude guest hotels, travel, attire, rings and any welcome dinner or brunch. A peak Friday or Sunday takes $2,500 off each range; an off-peak weekday takes off $4,500.
| Guests | Venue rental | Typical total |
|---|---|---|
| 150 | $8,995 | $60,000 to $100,000 |
| 200 | $8,995 | $70,000 to $115,000 |
| 250 | $8,995 | $80,000 to $135,000 |
| Category | Indicative range, 200 guests |
|---|---|
| Venue rental (peak Saturday) | $8,995 |
| CN Catering food, bar, staff, service and tax | $30,000 to $45,000 |
| Linens, tabletop and extra rentals | $3,000 to $6,000 |
| Planning and coordination | $4,000 to $7,500 |
| Flowers and design | $5,000 to $10,000 |
| Lighting and production | $1,500 to $3,500 |
| Photography and video | $6,500 to $10,000 |
| DJ and ceremony sound | $2,500 to $4,500 |
| Cake, officiant and stationery | $2,000 to $3,600 |
| Security and insurance | $1,500 to $3,000 |
| Guest transport | $1,000 to $2,500 |
The line couples underestimate here is tabletop. Tables and chairs come with the room, but linens, chargers, plates, glassware and flatware come through CN Catering, so a low per-head menu price can climb fast once the table is actually set. The second is time: five event hours goes quickly with a ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner and dancing, and extra hours are priced separately.
What the Rental Includes
| Included | Budget separately |
|---|---|
| 6,000 sq ft ballroom and the sixth-floor lobby | Food, bar, staff, service charges and tax |
| Bridal suite and groom's room for getting ready | Linens, chargers, plates, glassware and flatware |
| 72-inch round tables (up to 12 seats each) and black Chiavari chairs | Dance floor, monograms, staging and specialty lighting |
| Buffet, cake, gift and head tables, and tall cocktail rounds | Flowers, photography, video, music and planning |
| A dedicated venue captain | Security officer, valet and insurance |
| Covered self-parking for Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday events | Hotel rooms, guest transport and other weekend events |
The room already has wood floors, so a separate dance floor is a choice, not a requirement. Ask to see a fully priced table setting from CN Catering before you sign; the showroom appointment normally comes after contracting.
Capacity and Event Spaces
Everything happens on one floor: ceremony and dinner in the ballroom, cocktails in the lobby or a corner of the room, and the two suites for getting ready.
| Space | What it's for | Capacity |
|---|---|---|
| Grand Ballroom | Dinner, dancing and an indoor ceremony | Up to 320 seated for dinner |
| Sixth-floor lobby | Arrival and cocktails | Ask for your layout |
| Bridal suite | Getting ready and touch-ups | Wedding party |
| Groom's room | Getting ready | Wedding party |
There's no second hall, so an on-site ceremony is a configuration of the ballroom, not a separate room. The clean way to do it is to set the ceremony at one end facing the windows with dinner tables already set behind, then move guests to the lobby for cocktails while the ceremony chairs are cleared. At 200 guests, ten to a table means 20 rounds; at the full 12 seats you need 17, which gets tight once chargers and centerpieces go down. Above 250, ask for a drawn plan with your band, bars and dance floor in place.
What Is the Rain Plan at The Room on Main?
Rain doesn't change the wedding. The ceremony, dinner and dancing are all indoors, so there's no tent to build and no backup room that seats fewer people than the main one. The only things weather touches are the walk from the garage or hotels and any outdoor portraits.
The piece to settle is the room turn if your ceremony is on site: where guests drink while the chairs move, how long it takes, and who does it. Build that into the five-hour event window, since every minute of reset comes out of the party. Have umbrellas at the street entrance for arrivals and departures, and a car for anyone who shouldn't walk.
Accommodation and Where Guests Should Stay
There are no guest rooms at The Room on Main, and none are required. The bridal suite and groom's room are for getting ready only. The upside of a downtown venue is that good hotels are a short walk away, so most couples can skip the wedding-night shuttle.
| Hotel | Why stay here | Getting to the venue |
|---|---|---|
| The Statler Dallas | Mid-century landmark with a rooftop pool and good bars; the natural main block | 5 to 8 minute walk |
| Hampton Inn & Suites Dallas Downtown | Practical block with free hot breakfast, good for families and budget-minded guests | 7 to 10 minute walk |
| The Joule | Design-led luxury hotel with a spa; the pick for the couple or guests extending their stay | 10 to 15 minute walk |
Put most guests in one main block with a second option at a different price point, rather than spreading them across Uptown and the suburbs. Arrange a car or small shuttle for older guests and anyone who'd rather not walk in formalwear, summer heat or rain. A downtown hotel bar or restaurant makes an easy welcome-drinks or farewell-brunch venue.
Catering, Vendors and the Party
CN Catering is the exclusive provider of food, bar and rental services, so there's no outside caterer, no BYOB and no independent bar. Menus can be plated, buffet, family-style or stations, all priced by custom proposal. The useful quote is a complete one: appetizers, dinner, dietary meals, bar brands and hours, bartenders, service staff, tabletop, service charges and tax. Raise any cultural menu, certified dietary needs or an outside cake in the first meeting.
You choose your own florist, photographer, videographer, DJ or band. CN controls the rental side too, including linens, dance floors, staging, photo booths and specialty lighting, so tell your décor team which pieces must come through the venue before they quote.
The venue captain runs the event on the day, but that isn't a planner. Budget for an independent coordinator to own the timeline, vendors and hotel blocks. The included event is five hours, so set the last song, last call and guests-out time before you book a band, and price any extra hour alongside the bar and security for that hour. Confetti, uplighting and staging are available through the venue; clear anything else, such as cold sparks or ceiling installations, in writing.
Ceremony Options and Legal Requirements
Vows can happen in the ballroom with the windows behind you, or at a church or synagogue nearby before a reception here. Couples often marry at a downtown or Uptown church or synagogue and shuttle over, which keeps the ballroom reception-ready and removes the room turn.
A ceremony here is fully legal with a Texas marriage license and an authorized officiant. Apply through the Dallas County Clerk, then pick up the license in person. There's a 72-hour wait after issue unless you've taken a state-approved premarital course, which also lowers the fee. The license is valid for 90 days, so couples flying in should collect it at least three days before a Saturday wedding.
Getting There and Transportation
| From | Best route | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Dallas Love Field (DAL) | Car or rideshare | 20 to 35 minutes |
| DFW International Airport | Car, or DART Orange Line from Terminal A to downtown | 30 to 50 minutes by car |
| Uptown Dallas | Car or rideshare | 10 to 15 minutes |
| Downtown hotels | On foot | 5 to 15 minutes |
Point guests to Love Field if their airline flies there; it's the closer airport. DFW has more flights and a direct DART train to downtown, which works well for light packers. Guests staying downtown don't need a car for the wedding weekend.
Parking is in a covered garage across the street, included for Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday events. Valet is available for a fee, and weekday or Friday daytime weddings need their own parking arrangement. If you run a shuttle, agree a legal loading point on Main Street with the venue in advance, and schedule vendor load-out so it doesn't compete with guests for the elevators at the end of the night.
Best Time of Year for a Wedding at The Room on Main
April and October are the picks if you want outdoor portraits and comfortable walks between hotels. Both are peak season, and October is one of the wetter months, so don't treat autumn as dry. July and August are the value play: off-peak pricing on a fully indoor wedding, as long as portraits happen early or late and guests have cars for the short trips. January and February are also off-peak, with mild days and the occasional winter storm.
| Month | Average high | Average low | Rainfall |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 57°F / 14°C | 36°F / 2°C | 2.5 in / 64 mm |

| March | 69°F / 20°C | 48°F / 9°C | 3.3 in / 84 mm |
| April | 76°F / 24°C | 55°F / 13°C | 3.2 in / 82 mm |
| May | 84°F / 29°C | 65°F / 18°C | 4.8 in / 121 mm |
| June | 92°F / 33°C | 72°F / 22°C | 3.7 in / 94 mm |
| July | 96°F / 35°C | 76°F / 24°C | 2.1 in / 53 mm |
| August | 96°F / 35°C | 76°F / 24°C | 2.2 in / 55 mm |
| September | 89°F / 31°C | 69°F / 20°C | 2.7 in / 69 mm |
| October | 78°F / 26°C | 57°F / 14°C | 4.4 in / 111 mm |
| November | 67°F / 19°C | 46°F / 8°C | 2.5 in / 64 mm |
| December | 58°F / 14°C | 38°F / 3°C | 2.8 in / 72 mm |
For an October date, check the State Fair of Texas calendar before you sign the hotel block. Fair weekends fill Dallas hotels and push up room rates, whatever the venue costs.
Best For / Things to Consider
Best for: Weddings of 150 to 250 guests who want a downtown ballroom with real character, couples who'd rather spend on food and design than on the room, and anyone happy to marry in July, August or on a Friday to save more.
Things to consider: CN Catering is exclusive for food, bar and rentals, so the venue price is only part of the picture. The event runs five hours. There's no outdoor space and no rooms on site, and everything reaches the sixth floor by elevator, so plan arrivals, deliveries and load-out carefully.
Questions to Ask Before Booking
- Are these rates current for our wedding year, and do holiday dates cost more?
- What is CN Catering's minimum spend for our date, and can we see a full proposal with bar, staff, tabletop, service charge and tax?
- Does an on-site ceremony count within the five event hours, and is there a fee or extra staffing for the room turn?
- Can we see drawn ceremony, cocktail and dinner layouts at our guest count, with the band, bars and dance floor in place?
- How many guests fit in the lobby for cocktails, and where does everyone go during a reset?
- What are the last-call, last-song and guests-out times, and what does an extra hour cost across venue, bar and security?
- Are the ballroom, lobby and suites private for our whole window, or are any areas shared with the building?
- What time do the suites open for hair and makeup, and how many people fit?
- What are the installment dates, cancellation and postponement terms?
- Which garage do guests use, how is parking validated, and where can a shuttle load and wait?
- What are the elevator size and loading route for bands, florists and rentals?
Similar Wedding Venues to Compare
- The Hall on Dragon, Design District: seats 150 to 500 with separate ceremony and pre-function spaces, and also works with CN Catering. Better for bigger lists or couples who want to avoid a room turn.
- Arlington Hall at Turtle Creek Park, Dallas: a historic hall with terraces and gardens beside Turtle Creek. Better when an outdoor ceremony is the heart of the day.
- The Joule, Downtown Dallas: a hotel with ballrooms, penthouse spaces and in-house catering. Better when keeping guests and the wedding under one roof matters most.
- The Olana, Hickory Creek: a French-inspired mansion north of Dallas for up to 250, with in-house catering. Better for couples who want a grand house and lawn ceremony over a city room.
- Knotting Hill Place, Little Elm: a European-style estate with a 300-seat Cathedral and ballroom, and outside caterers allowed for a fee. Better for couples who want their own caterer and a separate ceremony room.
