Seeing Santa in Seattle can mean a quick free photo under the Pike Place Market sign or a whole day built around the visit. He scuba dives at the Aquarium, rides the Christmas Ship and waits in a restored chapel car at the end of a train ride.

For a free Seattle tradition, start with Magic in the Market on November 28. For something you can't do anywhere else, go see Diving Santa. If the portrait is what matters most, book Nordstrom or University Village, and if you want a full day out, try the Seattle Christmas Market or Cougar Mountain Zoo.

This guide covers Seattle first, then the Eastside, north and south suburbs, and a few outings worth the drive. Booking calendars can change, so confirm your slot before making a special trip. Details were last checked in November 2026.

Free Santa Visits in Seattle

These visits don't cost anything to walk into. Most are built around a neighborhood event, so go for the afternoon rather than a polished portrait. Magic in the Market is also the Market's tree-lighting day, covered in our Seattle Christmas lights guide, and our Pike Place Market restaurants guide has lunch sorted.

Pike Place Market

Pike Place Market

85 Pike St, Seattle, WA 98101, USA

Magic in the Market on November 28 is Seattle's best free Santa photo. He sits right under the Public Market sign, the market fills up with crafts and live music, and the lights come on at 5 p.m. Get in line well before 3 p.m., when it closes. If you'd rather browse than pose, the Holiday Night Market on December 10 also has free Santa photos, with vendors open late. Details: 85 Pike St, Seattle. Nov 28, Santa 11 a.m.–4 p.m., lighting at 5 p.m. Dec 10, 5–9 p.m. Free, walk-up.

Ounces Taproom

Ounces Taproom

3809 Delridge Wy SW, Seattle, WA 98106, USA

Ounces fixes the worst part of a casual Santa day, because you don't have to stand in a line. Add your name, grab a table and wait for the text saying it's your turn. It's all ages and well-behaved leashed dogs are welcome. You'll take the photo yourself, so think cheerful memory rather than holiday card. Details: 3809 Delridge Way SW, Seattle. Dec 5, 1–4 p.m. Free, bring a phone or camera. Walk-up list.

West Seattle Junction

West Seattle Junction

4200 SW Alaska St, Seattle, WA 98116, USA

The Hometown Holidays festival takes over the Junction on December 5 with a night market, tree lighting and music. It's a community event rather than a photo set, so come for the street party and treat a Santa hello as a bonus. Check the day-of schedule for where he'll be. Details: Junction Plaza, 42nd Ave SW and SW Alaska St, Seattle. Dec 5, 4–8 p.m. Free, walk-up.

Holidaze at Tacoma Armory

Holidaze at Tacoma Armory

1001 S Yakima Ave, Tacoma, WA 98405, USA

Black Night Market's Holidaze is a free holiday market built around Black- and BIPOC-owned businesses, local artists, food and live performances. Its December market featured Black Santa photos last year, so check the organizer's final post for the 2026 lineup and photo window before making the drive from Seattle. Details: 1001 S Yakima Ave, Tacoma. Dec 12, 4–10 p.m. Free entry, RSVP recommended.

Santa Photo Appointments

These are the ones to book when the picture is the point. Seattle comes first, followed by the Eastside, north and south suburbs. Reserve early, because prime weekend slots go first. Bellevue Square's slot pairs with Snowflake Lane, and Swansons is a short drive from Olympic Manor, both in our lights guide.

Nordstrom Downtown Seattle

Nordstrom Downtown Seattle

500 Pine St, Seattle, WA 98101, USA

Nordstrom is still the city's best-known department store Santa, though he's moved inside from the old street-level window at 6th and Pine. You'll trade the sidewalk nostalgia for a warmer visit that's much easier in the rain. Photos are free for Nordstrom cardmembers and $40 for everyone else. Pair it with the free Snow Globe holiday market at Pacific Place next door, and book the store's holiday breakfasts separately. Details: 500 Pine St, Seattle. Through Dec 24, times vary by date. Free for cardmembers, $40 for others. Reserve online.

University Village

University Village

2623 NE University Village St, Seattle, WA 98105, USA

This is the easiest traditional portrait in the city. Santa's Cabin sits near Room & Board, photos print on site, and the covered walkways and restaurants help on a wet December day. Several families are booked into each time block, so treat your slot as an arrival window. Mondays are pet-photo days. Details: 2623 NE University Village St, Seattle. Use the North Garage near Crate & Barrel. Packages $47–$83, or $55–$90 on peak dates. Digital only is $53 or $62. Reservations required.

Wing Luke Museum: C-ID Santa

Wing Luke Museum: C-ID Santa

719 S King St, Seattle, WA 98104, USA

C-ID Santa is one of the most distinctive portraits around, with an Asian American Santa and a backdrop from the historic Nippon Kan Theater. It's a one-day event that supports the museum, and it sold out last year, so don't wait. Arrive 15 minutes before your slot, then stay in the neighborhood for lunch or pastries. Details: 719 S King St, Seattle. Dec 12, noon–3 p.m. One print and digital access included, members save 50%. Book a timed slot.

Swansons Nursery

Swansons Nursery

9701 15th Ave NW, Seattle, WA 98117, USA

Swansons gives kids plenty to do around the appointment. The model train and Santa's Yurt open November 7, and the yurt has letters to Santa and holiday art even if you aren't booking a portrait. Packages cost more than University Village, but pets are welcome and you can easily make an afternoon of it. Tell the photographer ahead of time if you're bringing a pet or more than eight adults. Details: 9701 15th Ave NW, Seattle. November and December appointments. Packages $59.99–$102.99, digital only $69.99, plus tax. Appointment only.

Bellevue Square

Bellevue Square

575 Bellevue Square, Bellevue, WA 98004, USA

The Snowflake Lane Factory on the second level of Center Court is the one to pick if you want Santa, dinner and a big holiday show in one trip. You'll need a reserved slot even if you don't buy a package. Book early enough to eat before the free Snowflake Lane parade at 7 p.m., when parking gets much harder. Details: 575 Bellevue Square, Bellevue. From Nov 27, Snowflake Lane nightly through Dec 24. Photo packages, reservation required.

The Village at Totem Lake

The Village at Totem Lake

11901 NE Village Plaza, Kirkland, WA 98034, USA

Totem Lake's pricing is about as clear as it gets, with packages posted in advance and free parking nearby. Reservations get priority, but walk-ins are accepted when there's room. It also runs Silent Santa and Santa Paws sessions, so book those by name rather than assuming a regular slot works the same way. Details: 12675 120th Ave NE, Suite 199, Kirkland, near Pure Barre. Nov 21–Dec 24. Packages $39.99–$64.99, and the $19.99 book-now fee goes toward your package. Reserve, walk-ins if open.

Westfield Southcenter

Westfield Southcenter

2800 Southcenter Mall, Seattle, WA 98188, USA

Southcenter's ski-lodge Winter Village is a handy south-of-Seattle option with a long season and some room for walk-ups. If you need a Santa Cares sensory session or a pet night, reserve that session by name. Details: 2800 Southcenter Mall, Tukwila, Level 1 near Pandora. Nov 19–Dec 24. Photo packages, reservations recommended.

Lake Forest Park Town Center

Lake Forest Park Town Center

17171 Bothell Way NE, Lake Forest Park, WA 98155, USA

This one's for families who grew up with the downtown department store Santa. The photo company still uses the historic Frederick & Nelson set, carrying on a tradition that began downtown in the 1940s. Photos print right away. Details: 17171 Bothell Way NE, Lake Forest Park. Book through the SantaPhotos calendar. Packages $47–$90, reservation required.

Alderwood

Alderwood

3000 184th St SW, Lynnwood, WA 98037, USA

Alderwood is a practical north-end pick, not a destination. Santa sits in Center Court near Macy's, the season starts early, and it's a good backup when the city calendars fill up. Bringing a pet? Use the separate Pet Night booking. Details: 3000 184th St SW, Lynnwood. Nov 6–Dec 24. Photo packages, reserve online.

Where to book: Nordstrom · University Village · Wing Luke · Swansons · Bellevue Square · Totem Lake · Southcenter · Lake Forest Park · Alderwood

Black Santa in Seattle: the Northwest African American Museum's Black Santa celebration ran across two weekends last year, and Surge Reproductive Justice hosted a free Black Santa event. Neither had posted 2026 dates when we last checked. We'll add them here once they do.

Santa Trains and Holiday Outings

Here, Santa is part of a bigger day out. You'll pay for admission or a ticket, so these make the most sense when you'd want to go anyway.

Seattle Aquarium

Seattle Aquarium

1483 Alaskan Way Pier 59, Seattle, WA 98101, USA

Diving Santa is the most Seattle Santa visit there is. He swims in the Window on Washington Waters habitat while you stay dry on the other side, and volunteers can take your photo with your own phone. Time your entry for the 11:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m. dive. Between dives, Dry Side Santa poses for professional photos by the viewing window. There's also a quieter 9 a.m. opening with a special dive on December 6. Details: 1483 Alaskan Way, Pier 59, Seattle. Dives Nov 27–29, Dec 5–6, 12–13 and 19–20. Dry Side Santa Nov 27–29, Dec 5–7, 12–14 and 19–24, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., leaving at 2:30 p.m. on Dec 24. Included with admission, professional photos extra. Timed ticket.

Space Needle

Space Needle

400 Broad St, Seattle, WA 98109, USA

Santa on The Loupe has the best backdrop in town, with Seattle spread out under the glass floor. The digital photo is included with admission, so it makes the most sense when the Space Needle is already part of your plan. His hours are usually short, so pick a ticket time that gets you up there early. Build the rest of the day around Seattle Center's Winterfest and the Christmas Market. Details: 400 Broad St, Seattle. 2026 dates to come. Digital photo included with admission. Timed ticket.

Seattle Christmas Market

Seattle Christmas Market

305 Harrison St, Seattle, WA 98109, USA

The photo isn't the reason to come here, but it's a nice bonus. Santa photos are included with market admission, and so are the carousel, snow showers and Wishing Forest. Food and vendors add up quickly, so skip it if all you want is a Santa picture. Breakfast with Santa on December 5 adds a buffet, Mrs. Claus storytime, face painting and crafts, and Yappy Hours on November 23 and December 7 include Santa photos for dogs from 4 to 8 p.m. Details: Fisher Pavilion, 305 Harrison St, Seattle. Opens Nov 20, closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Admission from $6.99, 6 and under free. Breakfast $20–$180, 9:30–11:30 a.m. Timed ticket.

Christmas Towne

Christmas Towne

400 Pine St, Seattle, WA 98101, USA

This new indoor attraction fills 22,000 square feet on Westlake Center's third floor with themed neighborhoods, characters, games and snowfall. Santa's Lodge is the upgrade, covering admission for two adults and two kids, dedicated time with Santa, digital photos and a toy for each child. It's worth a look if a rushed photo line hasn't worked for your family. Westlake Station is right below. Details: Westlake Center, 400 Pine St, third floor, Seattle. Select dates Nov 27–Dec 24. General admission from $16, Santa's Lodge priced separately. Timed ticket, limited Lodge slots.

Argosy Christmas Ship

Argosy Christmas Ship

25 Lakeshore Plaza, Kirkland, WA 98033, USA

The 2 p.m. sailings are the family-friendly ones, with cookies, a visit from Santa and a coloring surprise while a choir sings aboard the lit-up ship. Santa also reads 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. There are only eight of these sailings, and most leave from Kirkland, so choose your date by the dock. Book this for the outing rather than a studio portrait. Details: 2 p.m. sailings: Nov 28, Carillon Point. Dec 5, Hyatt Regency Lake Washington. Dec 12, 19, 20, 21 and 22, Kirkland City Dock. Dec 23, Lake Union Park. Cruise ticket, food extra. Advance ticket required.

North Pole Limited

North Pole Limited

205 E McClellan St, North Bend, WA 98045, USA

This is the Santa train to book when the ride matters as much as the visit. It's a two-hour outing with short train legs and about an hour at the Railway History Campus for cookies, hot chocolate, crafts and exhibits. Santa waits in the restored Chapel Car, and every child gets a gift. Arrive at least 25 minutes early, since there's no restroom on board and boarding lines are outside. The Chapel Car isn't wheelchair accessible, but Santa can meet you in the Train Shed foyer. This usually sells out, and the shorter Yuletide Express is already full. Details: North Bend Depot, 205 E McClellan St, North Bend. Nov 28–29, Dec 5–6, 12–13 and 19–20. $39, age 2 and up. Advance ticket.

Cougar Mountain Zoo

Cougar Mountain Zoo

19525 SE 54th St, Issaquah, WA 98027, USA

The Reindeer Festival is a full Santa day out, with real reindeer, Santa's house and his big sleigh. The animals help if your child isn't sure about sitting on Santa's lap. Much of it is outdoors, so dress for the weather. The festival continues December 26–30 after Santa heads home. Details: 19525 SE 54th St, Issaquah. Nov 27–Dec 23, Santa 10:30 a.m.–4 p.m. Festival admission plus a minimum donation for Santa photos. Advance ticket recommended.

Breakfast, Brunch and Story Time with Santa

These turn the visit into a sit-down meal or a small event, which helps if your kids need something to do while they wait. They're all ticketed or reserved, and they don't run for long. The Seattle Christmas Market's Breakfast with Santa is covered under outings above. The Toy Room and Salish Lodge are also in our Seattle restaurants that go all out for Christmas, and the Fog Room pop-up is in our Seattle Christmas bars guide.

Fog Room

Fog Room

1610 2nd Ave, Seattle, WA 98101, USA

Fog Room turns part of its 16th-floor rooftop lounge into The Toy Room, a vintage toy-shop pop-up with floating teddy bears and city views. Santa reads to the group, then visits with families for photos on your own phone. Get there before noon, since he's only in the room for an hour. Food and drinks are extra, and the ticket is separate from a regular table reservation. Details: 1610 2nd Ave, 16th floor, Seattle. Sundays, Nov 29–Dec 20, 11 a.m.–2 p.m., Santa noon–1 p.m. Tickets from about $12.51. Cashless.

McMenamins Anderson School

McMenamins Anderson School

18607 Bothell Way NE, Bothell, WA 98011, USA

Anderson School sells this breakfast by the table, which works well for grandparents, cousins or two families sharing a morning. Santa visits the room while everyone eats in Haynes' Hall, and you'll take your own photos. It's less polished than a studio session, but much easier than managing a line with a big group. Details: 18607 Bothell Way NE, Bothell. Dec 6, 9 a.m. and noon. $265 for a table of 8, including breakfast and nonalcoholic drinks. Advance ticket required.

Pomegranate Bistro

Pomegranate Bistro

18005 NE 68th St A-150, Redmond, WA 98052, USA

Pomegranate's Santa Brunch pairs a real meal with a professional photo, so it's a good swap for a mall Santa if the adults care about brunch too. Regular weekend brunch runs until 3 p.m., so make sure your reservation is for the Santa event and not a standard table. Details: 18005 NE 68th St, Suite A-150, Redmond. Dec 12. Final pricing shown at booking. Reserve a table.

Where to book: Fog Room · Anderson School · Pomegranate Bistro

Also coming: The Woodmark in Kirkland has a Santa Brunch planned for December 13. We'll add details once they're posted on the hotel calendar.
