Best NYC Christmas Hotels for 2026
23 festive places to stay in New York this Christmas

Run a business in this guide, or want yours added? Get in touch. Or get featured.
A good Christmas hotel makes the whole trip feel more festive. You head out for the windows, the tree and a show, then come back to somewhere you actually want to spend the evening: a lobby dressed for the season, a tree beside your bed, or a quiet bar to warm up in after a cold walk.
The right pick depends on the trip. Lotte New York Palace is our starting point for a classic Midtown Christmas, and The Peninsula adds an indoor pool for families. This is also The Plaza's last Christmas before it closes in January 2027 for at least four years, so if it's been on your list, this is the year. The Carlyle suits a trip built around evenings out, Refinery and LUMA have two of the most specific 2026 packages near Bryant Park, and our downtown and Brooklyn picks are for anyone who wants a break from Fifth Avenue.
Quick note: These are festive hotels, not budget ones, and December rates reflect that. Hotels are still announcing their 2026 plans, so where a detail comes from a past season, we say so.

Classic Midtown Christmas hotels near Fifth Avenue
The hotels most people picture when they think of Christmas in New York, all within walking distance of the tree, the windows and St. Patrick's.

Lotte New York Palace
455 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10022, USA
The courtyard tree is what most people notice first, but the location is what makes the Palace such a good Christmas base. St. Patrick's Cathedral is directly across Madison Avenue, and Rockefeller Center and the Fifth Avenue windows are a short walk away, so you can build a whole day around the neighborhood and come back to a hotel that feels like part of the celebration. Decorations go up November 23, 2026. Santa visits on Sundays from November 29 through December 20, and the Letters to Santa activity in December gives young overnight guests a reason to watch for a delivery to their room. If you want the tree to follow you upstairs, book the Balsam Hill Holiday Suite specifically; it isn't part of a standard reservation.

The Peninsula New York
700 5th Ave, New York, NY 10019, USA
The Peninsula is the family splurge for people who plan to actually spend time at their hotel. You're right on Fifth Avenue for the windows and the tree, and the indoor pool gives everyone something to look forward to once another cold walk has lost its charm. Kids under 12 swim with an adult. Last year's celebration brought elaborate decorations, children's activities, festive food and visits from Santa. The 2026 lineup hasn't been announced, but the address plus a hotel worth an afternoon indoors is reason enough to put it on the shortlist.

The Plaza
768 5th Ave, New York, NY 10019, USA
This is The Plaza's last Christmas for a while. The hotel closes in January 2027 for at least four years of facade restoration, and the Palm Court closes with it. If Home Alone 2 shaped your idea of Christmas in New York, this is the year to go: Central Park is at the door, Fifth Avenue runs south, and the tree and the Palm Court give the stay a real sense of occasion. Decorations go up November 11, with the tree lighting on November 12. Holiday afternoon tea, a Home Alone experience and the Suitest Season of All package, which puts a seven-foot tree in an eligible suite, are all booked separately from the room. Overnight guests can book dining 90 days out and everyone else 60 days out, so with this the final season, don't leave the tea to the last minute. No exact closing date has been set; if your stay runs into January, confirm your dates with the hotel before booking.

The St. Regis New York
Two E 55th St, New York, NY 10022, USA
The St. Regis is for the version of Christmas that involves a good coat, a long lunch and a drink somewhere with history. Fifth Avenue is steps away, and the King Cole Bar, with its Maxfield Parrish mural behind the bar, gives the evening a destination without leaving the building. The Drawing Room is there for a slower afternoon. Recent seasons have brought holiday tea, special meals and activities for kids. This year's calendar isn't out yet, but the traditional atmosphere and the address are what you're really booking.

Waldorf Astoria New York
301 Park Ave, New York, NY 10022, USA
The Waldorf is back in the Christmas conversation. It reopened in July 2025 after a long restoration, and its historic public rooms and Park Avenue address make it a strong choice if dressing for dinner and wandering the hotel are part of the trip. From December 1–31, 2026, A Very Waldorf Holiday Season puts a seven-foot decorated tree and garland in eligible suites, along with a festive welcome amenity and a keepsake candle. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinner at Lex Yard and festive tea at Yoshoku give you reasons to stay in. One thing for families comparing it with The Peninsula or Mandarin Oriental: there's no pool.

Baccarat Hotel New York
28 W 53rd St, New York, NY 10019, USA
Baccarat is the pick for couples who want the hotel itself to feel like a night out. The Grand Salon, The Bar and all that crystal suit the season, and you're just off Fifth Avenue for the Midtown holiday circuit. Its Christmas displays lean sculptural; in 2024 that meant a chandelier-inspired crystal tree. If the room budget is going elsewhere, afternoon tea or a drink at The Bar still gets you a taste of the place.
Christmas hotels near Central Park and the Upper East Side
A calmer base for a trip built around the park, museums and Madison Avenue, with Midtown a short ride away.

The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel
35 E 76th St, New York, NY 10021, USA
The Carlyle is our pick for a Christmas where the evenings matter as much as the sightseeing. Spend the afternoon on Madison Avenue or in Central Park, then stay in for the night: Café Carlyle has the cabaret, and Bemelmans Bar has the Ludwig Bemelmans murals and the cocktails. Kelli O'Hara plays Café Carlyle December 1–12, and Peter Cincotti brings A New York Christmas December 21–30, with a separate New Year's Eve show. Tickets are booked on their own and come with a food and beverage requirement, so check both before you commit. Bryant Park and Rockefeller Center are a longer trip from here than from Midtown.

The Mark
25 E 77th St, New York, NY 10075, USA
The Mark makes sense for a Christmas with plenty of Upper East Side in it: Madison Avenue shopping, a museum afternoon, a walk through Central Park before dinner. The design is the draw, and the location feels pleasantly removed from the Rockefeller Center crowds. It has a history of memorable holiday installations, including the much-photographed Swarovski gingerbread facade in 2022, and its 2026 Christmas and New Year's dining plans are on the way. If walking to the tree several times a day is the goal, one of the Fifth Avenue hotels will suit you better.

The Pierre, A Taj Hotel
2 E 61st St, New York, NY 10065, USA
The Pierre is the classic choice for a Christmas that starts with Central Park rather than Rockefeller Center. You get the formal interiors, the famous Fifth Avenue address and the feeling of arriving somewhere with a long New York history, plus easy walks to the southern end of the park and the shops on Fifth and Madison. Trees and garlands suit those grand rooms, and Two E Bar & Lounge, with its live music, gives you a reason to linger downstairs. If the park view is part of the dream, book a Park View or Signature Park View room; standard rooms don't promise it.

Loews Regency New York Hotel
540 Park Ave, New York, NY 10065, USA
Loews Regency is the easy, comfortable choice: a festive hotel that also works well as a place to come and go. Park Avenue at 61st Street puts Central Park and Madison Avenue close by without the crush of Fifth, and the range of rooms and suites gives families more than one way to fit everyone in. This December brings seasonal decorations and festive dining, plus complimentary champagne and hot cocoa on Friday and Saturday afternoons. It's a small thing, but it lands well when everyone comes back tired and cold.

Mandarin Oriental, New York
80 Columbus Cir, New York, NY 10023, USA
Mandarin Oriental gives you Christmas from above, with the city spread out below and Columbus Circle and Central Park at the door. It's the natural luxury pick for a trip that includes Lincoln Center, and for anyone who cares most about the view from the room. The 2026 Home for the Holidays offer runs November 20 through January 5, 2027, with a decorated 7.5-foot tree in a suite. Tea, carolers and Santa appearances round out the season, each booked and priced on its own. The 75-foot indoor lap pool is a real plus in winter, and views vary by room, so book the one you want.

The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park
50 Central Park S, New York, NY 10019, USA
The Ritz-Carlton on Central Park South is for picturing Christmas morning in a beautiful room, then a walk in the park and a long, slow meal. Choose it when privacy and the room matter more than a big lobby display. Its Home for the Holiday experience brings an in-room tree with an FAO Schwarz ornament and a holiday puzzle, and a more elaborate Rockefeller Center package is available too. Neither lists 2026 dates yet, so check availability with the hotel before planning around them. Parkview rooms and Club Lounge access are booked as their own categories.
Christmas hotels near Bryant Park and Midtown South
The best area for being in the middle of everything, with Winter Village on the doorstep and some of the most concrete 2026 family packages in the city.

The Langham, New York, Fifth Avenue
400 5th Ave, New York, NY 10018, USA
The Langham is one of the first places we'd look for a family Christmas that needs breathing room. The Family Room is 840 square feet and takes up to five guests, with an extra bed on request, while the Family Room with Kitchen is 700 square feet for four, handy if a few meals in would make the trip easier. The 2026 Storybook Suite comes with a Christmas tree, books, children's robes and a hot cocoa kit. Carolers and hot chocolate are out front on December 4–5, 11–12 and 18–19, with kids' activities on selected dates. The look is contemporary rather than grand-hotel, and you're right between the Empire State Building and Bryant Park.

Park Terrace Hotel
18 W 40th St, New York, NY 10018, USA
Park Terrace sits right on Bryant Park, which makes Winter Village part of the rhythm of the day. Step out in the morning, drop off the shopping at lunch, head back out for dinner, and no outing turns into an expedition. It has a festive streak of its own, too. Last year's Golden Kaleidoscope tree filled the lobby with warm gold light, with decorations carried into BRANCH; this year's design hasn't been revealed. Park Terrace and The Bryant Park Hotel are separate hotels on the same block, so double-check which one you're booking.

The Bryant Park Hotel
40 W 40th St, New York, NY 10018, USA
Book The Bryant Park Hotel when the view out the window matters as much as the lobby. It faces the park, so Winter Village is right there morning, afternoon and evening. The outlook is something you can actually book: the Deluxe Parkview King sleeps two, and the Parkview Deluxe Guestroom with Two Beds has two queens for up to four. A standard city-view room won't give you the same experience.

LUMA Hotel Times Square
120 W 41st St, New York, NY 10036, USA
LUMA handles the practical side of a family Christmas well. Its Urban rooms come with two kings or two queens for up to four guests, and while they're compact at 226–275 square feet, the bed setup does the job. There's no amenity fee. The 2026 Merry Christmas in Manhattan package includes a Festa Di Natale dinner at AperiBar on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, plus a keepsake delivered on Christmas Day by Alina, the hotel's robot butler. Your stay has to include December 24 or 25 and be booked at least three days ahead. Bryant Park and Broadway are both close by.

Refinery Hotel
63 W 38th St, New York, NY 10018, USA
Refinery is the clearest choice if you want Christmas waiting for you upstairs. Its Winter Spectacular package, offered for December 2026, delivers a fresh Christmas tree with decorations to your room, along with seasonal room service like hot chocolate, cookies and milk. There's a two-night minimum, which makes it a natural fit for a holiday weekend or a Christmas staycation. Spend the afternoon around Bryant Park, then come back to cocoa and a tree of your own.

Library Hotel
299 Madison Aveneue, E 41st St, New York, NY 10017, USA
Library Hotel is a cozy Midtown base between outings rather than a big Christmas production. The Reading Room is open to guests around the clock with books, coffee, tea and snacks, which makes it a nice place to land after a cold afternoon. Factor in the daily resort fee when comparing rates.
Christmas hotels downtown and in Brooklyn
For a holiday trip that isn't centered on Fifth Avenue. Plan the big Midtown sights as one proper outing rather than several quick trips.

The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel
123 Nassau St, New York, NY 10038, USA
The Beekman is the downtown hotel with the most character. The nine-story atrium and vintage furnishings make for a dramatic setting, and The Bar Room is a natural place to end the night, which is why it works so well for couples. Past Christmases have brought a tree and festive dining into that atrium, though this year's program hasn't been announced. Base yourself here for Lower Manhattan and treat the trip uptown for the big displays as an outing of its own. Families can ask about connecting rooms.

The Wall Street Hotel
88 Wall St, New York, NY 10005, USA
The Wall Street Hotel is the one to know if you like the idea of a decorated suite but want to stay downtown. It's built a holiday identity around festive rooms, treats and an intimate setting, with La Marchande and the lounge giving you somewhere to settle in downstairs. Recent seasons have brought suites with decorated trees, gingerbread cookie kits, candy-cane hunts and afternoon hot chocolate from a trolley. Dates for this year's packages haven't been posted yet.

The Greenwich Hotel
377 Greenwich St, New York, NY 10013, USA
For a private, fireside winter stay, The Greenwich Hotel is hard to beat. The Drawing Room, Courtyard and Colonnade are for registered guests only, which is exactly why it feels so calm. Not staying? Locanda Verde is the way in.

1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge
60 Furman St, Brooklyn, NY 11201, USA
1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge is for a holiday built around waterfront walks, Manhattan views and time in Brooklyn. It's a different Christmas from the Fifth Avenue circuit, and it works best when that's the whole point. Barbuto Brooklyn is serving a Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve and a Christmas Day supper with seasonal specials, so the celebration can happen downstairs. Bridge and skyline views come with specific room categories, and there are two-bed and connecting options for families. Allow time for trips into Midtown.

The William Vale
111 N 12th St, Brooklyn, NY 11249, USA
The William Vale is for a Williamsburg Christmas with a rooftop evening in it. Westlight's Winter Village brings private chalets and a Sky Lodge to the roof, but this winter's dates haven't been announced, so hold off if the chalets are the reason you'd book.
Where to stay in NYC for Christmas: choosing a neighborhood
First Christmas trip: Midtown. Start around Fifth Avenue or Bryant Park. Lotte, The Peninsula, The Plaza, St. Regis, the Waldorf and Baccarat put the northern Midtown sights on your doorstep, while Park Terrace, The Bryant Park Hotel, LUMA, Refinery and The Langham work well if Bryant Park and a mix of Midtown plans are the focus. On a short trip, less time getting back to the hotel means more time out.
A quieter base: the Upper East Side and Columbus Circle. The Upper East Side suits trips built around museums, Madison Avenue and Central Park. The Carlyle and The Mark are farther uptown, while The Pierre and Loews Regency are closer to the park's southern end. Mandarin Oriental is the pick for Columbus Circle and Lincoln Center. A quieter street doesn't guarantee a quiet room, so ask about placement if noise matters.
Downtown and Brooklyn. The Beekman, The Wall Street Hotel and The Greenwich Hotel make sense when you want real time downtown. 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge is for the waterfront, and The William Vale is for Williamsburg. Brooklyn Heights and Williamsburg are very different bases, and neither is just a cheaper version of Midtown.
Visiting a Christmas hotel without staying overnight
You don't need a room to enjoy a festive hotel. Booking tea, a meal or a show turns a quick look through the door into part of the holiday. For the bars, see our guide to the best NYC hotel lobby bars at Christmas.
| Hotel | How to visit |
|---|---|
| The Plaza | Book Palm Court tea or another holiday experience; this is its last season before the closure. Indoor access is restricted over the holidays, but the exterior decorations are open to everyone. |
| Lotte New York Palace | The courtyard tree is an easy Midtown stop. Check the hotel's holiday page for visiting arrangements; Letters to Santa is for overnight guests. |
| Waldorf Astoria New York | Festive tea at Yoshoku or a holiday meal at Lex Yard. |
| The Carlyle | Reserve a Café Carlyle show and factor in the food and beverage requirement. |
| The Beekman | Reserve at The Bar Room or the restaurant to take in the atrium. |
| 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge | Barbuto's Christmas Eve and Christmas Day meals are a good excuse to visit the waterfront. |
The Greenwich Hotel is the exception: its Drawing Room is for guests only, so book Locanda Verde instead.
How to plan a Christmas hotel stay in NYC
Pick dates around what you want to see. Rockefeller Center lights its tree on December 2, 2026, so if the lit tree is a must, book from December 3 on. November can still feel festive, but hotel decorations, markets and events don't all start on the same day: The Plaza decorates from November 11, Lotte from November 23.
Search with everyone in the room. Enter every adult and child, with ages, before comparing rates. A family of five needs a room or connecting setup that explicitly allows five. The Langham's Family Room takes five and LUMA's Urban rooms take four, which is a good reminder that "family room" means different things at different hotels.
Decide how much Christmas you want upstairs. An in-room tree can make the trip, but it almost always comes with a specific package or suite rather than a standard room. Lotte, The Plaza, the Waldorf, The Langham, Mandarin Oriental and Refinery all have 2026 versions. Weigh the package against the regular rate and how much time you'll actually spend in the room.
Book the special evening, not just the room. A room reservation doesn't include Christmas dinner, afternoon tea, a rooftop chalet or a cabaret seat. Reserve the experience separately and check its cancellation terms. At The Plaza, dining opens 90 days ahead for overnight guests and 60 days ahead for everyone else.
Book the room category, not the photo. Park views, bridge views, kitchens, lounge access and connecting rooms are all specific categories. Book the one that delivers what you care about; a photo of the hotel's best suite won't tell you what your room looks like.
Compare the full price. Compare totals for your actual dates and party size, including taxes, mandatory fees and extra beds, then add the meals and experiences you want. If a grand-hotel quote is too much, price LUMA, Refinery, Park Terrace and The Bryant Park Hotel before giving up on a central stay, though none of them is cheap in December.
