Sometimes you want a night out where drinks come first and dancing happens naturally, without committing to a full nightclub. These 45 NYC bars have actual dance floors, back rooms, DJs, live bands or late-night crowds that reliably get moving.

Some are casual neighborhood bars that turn up after 10 or 11pm. Others are lounges, live music rooms or bar-club hybrids, and we've called out the ones with more club-like energy so you know what kind of night you're walking into. They're grouped by the night you're after: bars with dance floors, grown-up cocktail spots, live bands, country and line dancing, salsa nights and LGBTQ+ bars.

Best bars with dancing in Manhattan

These are real bars first. You can walk in, get a drink and not dance, but on the right night the back room or the basement fills up. Most of the action is downtown, in the East Village and the Lower East Side, and most of it starts after 10pm from Thursday to Saturday.

Beauty Bar

Beauty Bar

Frequently asked questions

Where can you dance in NYC without going to a nightclub?
Plenty of bars have a back room or basement that turns into a dance floor. Joyface, Beauty Bar, Niagara and Home Sweet Home are the easiest downtown picks, and Union Pool, Mood Ring and Friends and Lovers do the same job in Brooklyn.
What NYC bars have actual dance floors?
Beauty Bar and Niagara both have back rooms set up for dancing, Wiggle Room and Home Sweet Home have basement floors, and Ethyl's on the Upper East Side has a disco floor that fills up Thursday through Saturday.
Where can you dance in NYC in your 30s?
Joyface plays disco and throwbacks and runs an early Saturday party from 5 to 10pm. Ethyl's, Club Room at the Soho Grand, The Seville and Bathtub Gin all draw an older crowd than the East Village basements.
What bars in Brooklyn have dancing?
Union Pool, Mood Ring, Jupiter Disco, Friends and Lovers and Cafe Balearica are the regulars. Shenanigans in Williamsburg, Shania's Max Bet in Gowanus and Matches in Greenpoint are the newest.
Where can you go line dancing or two-stepping in NYC?
Lucinda's in the East Village has a Thursday two-step night with free lessons, Skinny Dennis in Williamsburg runs Tuesday two-step lessons, and Desert 5 Spot has line dancing nights midweek and on Sundays.
What NYC bars have live music and dancing?
The Red Lion on Bleecker Street has cover bands every night, Haswell Green's does the same in Midtown, Groove books funk and soul on MacDougal Street, and Shrine and Silvana in Harlem follow their bands with a DJ.
Is dancing allowed in NYC bars?
Yes. New York City repealed its old Cabaret Law in 2017, and later zoning changes loosened the rules around dancing and live entertainment. In May 2026 the State Liquor Authority also stopped asking about patron dancing on liquor license applications. Individual bars still have to follow zoning and capacity rules, so not every bar can add a dance floor.
