Holiday Markets Worth Shopping
For handmade gifts, go to the maker markets. For a festive night with a little shopping, Lawrenceville's Christkindl market is the one to plan around. These five are the best for gift buying, and our guide to Atlanta's Christmas markets covers the full calendar.

Indie Craft Winter Experience
665 Marietta St NW, Atlanta, GA 30313, USA
Atlanta's longest-running artist market is the one to pick if you're really there to shop. It's indoors at LOOP, with independent makers, artists and vintage sellers under one roof, so you can cover ceramics, jewelry and prints in one trip. Do a full lap before you buy anything big. Details: Dec 5–6, 11 a.m.–5 p.m., LOOP, 665 Marietta St NW. Advance tickets from $5 plus fees, $10 at the door. Parking is $5. Saturday 10 a.m. entry is VIP only.

Piedmont Handmade Holiday Market
1071 Piedmont Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30309
Up to 250 artists and crafters set up in Piedmont Park the weekend after Thanksgiving, from painters and photographers to jewelers and glass blowers. It's outdoors, so dress for it, and it lands right on Small Business Saturday if you want to make a day of shopping local. Details: Nov 28–29, Sat 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Sun 11 a.m.–5 p.m., Piedmont Park, 1071 Piedmont Ave NE. Free entry.

Spruill Gallery Holiday Art Fair
4681 Ashford Dunwoody Rd, Dunwoody, GA 30338
Everything here's made by Georgia artists, more than 100 of them, and the fair fills Spruill's gallery for almost six weeks. That long run makes it the easy handmade option if you can't do a market weekend. Free events include Santa photos on Nov 15, a wine tasting on Dec 9 and Mistletoe & Margaritas on Dec 18. Details: Nov 13–Dec 23, 4681 Ashford Dunwoody Rd, Dunwoody. Opening night Nov 13, 5–9 p.m. November hours are Tue–Sat 10 a.m.–6 p.m. and Sun noon–5 p.m., closed Mondays and Thanksgiving.

Buckhead Handmade Holiday Market
259 Buckhead Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30305, USA
About 100 artists set up outdoors around Buckhead Avenue for a free weekend of art, jewelry and crafts. It's a browse, not a German-style Christmas market, and Buckhead Village's shops are right there when you want a second stop. Details: Dec 5–6, Sat 11 a.m.–6 p.m., Sun 11 a.m.–5 p.m., Buckhead Ave at Buckhead Village. Free entry, rain or shine.

Atlanta Christkindl Market: Lawrenceville
210 Luckie St, Lawrenceville, GA 30046, USA
The metro's German-style market is more of a night out than a shopping mission. Expect a 112-foot Ferris wheel, Santa photos, Käthe Wohlfahrt ornaments and plenty of food, with gift stalls in between. Make it the evening's plan, because it's not a quick detour from Buckhead. Details: Nov 20–Dec 24, Lawrenceville Lawn, 210 Luckie St, Lawrenceville. Wed–Thu 3–9 p.m., Fri–Sun 11 a.m.–9 p.m., plus Nov 23–25 and Dec 21–23, 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Closed Thanksgiving. Dec 24, 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Free entry, with free parking at 75 Langley Dr.

Ponce City Market Shops
Ponce is the one stop that can handle a whole list, and the food hall sorts out lunch. Pick a few shops rather than trying to do every floor. Krog is a walk down the BeltLine's Eastside Trail if you've got time left.

Ponce City Market
675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30308, USA
The old Sears building is our first pick for a mixed holiday list. Local makers, paper goods, toys, books and familiar brands all share one property, so a group with different lists can split up and meet for lunch. Rooftop activities are separate from the shopping. Details: 675 Ponce de Leon Ave NE. Retail hours are Mon–Sat 10 a.m.–9 p.m., Sun 11 a.m.–6 p.m., and individual shops vary.

Citizen Supply
675 Ponce De Leon Avenue Northeast NW208, 675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE NW208, Atlanta, GA 30308, USA
Citizen Supply packs independent clothing, accessory and home brands into one marketplace on Ponce's second floor, so it's a good first stop when you know someone's taste but not the gift. Not everything's made in Atlanta, so ask if that matters. Details: Inside Ponce City Market, second floor.

The Village Retail
675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE Ste 225, Atlanta, GA 30308, USA
A marketplace of Black-owned brands in the Central Food Hall, with clothing, home goods and body care in the same room. It's a good place to find a new favorite brand while you're buying for someone else. The lineup rotates, so what you saw last time may have changed. Details: Inside Ponce City Market, Central Food Hall, second floor.

Glad & Young
675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE 219 Floor 2, Atlanta, GA 30308, USA
This Atlanta studio makes leather bags and accessories in bright colors and playful shapes. It's a great fit for someone who already wears a lot of color. If you're not sure about their bag habits, stick to a smaller accessory. Details: Inside Ponce City Market.

Archer Paper Goods
675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE Unit W119, Atlanta, GA 30308, USA
Archer started right here in 2015 and it's still the place for cards, notebooks, pens and gift wrap. A good notebook handles a small office exchange on its own, and it's the easy last stop for a card to go with whatever you bought elsewhere. Details: Inside Ponce City Market.

Rhen's Nest Toy Shop
675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30308, USA
An Atlanta toy shop known for stocking independent toy makers, so you'll see things the big-box aisles don't carry. Come with the kid's age and what they're into right now, whether that's building, pretending or figuring out how things work. Details: Inside Ponce City Market, second floor.

Posman Books
675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE C-197, Atlanta, GA 30308, USA
A carefully picked selection of adult and children's books, plus toys, games and greeting cards. It's the quickest way to get a book, a game and a card in one stop before lunch. Details: Inside Ponce City Market. Mon–Sat 10 a.m.–9 p.m., Sun 11 a.m.–7 p.m.
Krog, Glenwood Park and Little Five Points Shops
These intown neighborhoods are where the gifts get more personal. They're close to each other but they aren't one walkable strip, so pair the shops that sit together and drive or ride between the rest.

The Merchant
99 Krog St NE a, Atlanta, GA 30307, USA
The Merchant is good for the person you like but don't know well enough to buy clothes for. Its gifts, stationery and home goods give you plenty of room to be generous without guessing a size. Grab a card while you're here. Details: 99 Krog St NE, Krog Street Market.

Xocolatl Chocolate
99 Krog St NE, Atlanta, GA 30307, USA
This Atlanta chocolate maker has an easy answer for someone who doesn't need more stuff. Single-origin and flavored bars, gift sets and drinking chocolate all travel well, and many bars ran about $11 at last check. The Krog shop isn't the factory tasting room, which is by appointment. Details: 99 Krog St NE, Suite S, Krog Street Market.

A Cappella Books
208 Haralson Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30307, USA
Inman Park's independent bookstore is close enough to Krog to add on, and it's the stop for readers who've already got the bestsellers. Give the staff a title or two the person loved and let them take it from there. Details: 208 Haralson Ave NE. Mon–Sat 10 a.m.–7 p.m., Sun noon–6 p.m.

the beehive
475 Bill Kennedy Wy SE Ste C, Atlanta, GA 30316, USA
Our top pick for handmade gifts, now in a new home in Glenwood Park. Clothing, jewelry, home goods, body products and little things for kids cover a long list at several budgets. If you know your budget but not the gift, start here. Details: 475 Bill Kennedy Way SE, Unit C. Mon–Sat 11 a.m.–7 p.m., Sun noon–5 p.m.

The Oakland Store
374 Martin Luther King Jr Dr SE, Atlanta, GA 30312
The shop in Oakland Cemetery's visitor center sells books, candles, toys and souvenirs, so it's a better Atlanta gift than the usual skyline merch. It's good for a longtime local or someone new to town, and the walk through Oakland makes it an outing. Details: 374 Martin Luther King Jr Dr SE. Open daily 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Criminal Records
1154 Euclid Ave NE A, Atlanta, GA 30307, USA
The stop for anyone with a favorite band, artist or comic-book obsession. Vinyl and comics are easy gifts as long as you avoid what they already own, so bring a short list or a photo of their shelf. Details: 1154 Euclid Ave NE, Suite A.

Junkman's Daughter
464 Moreland Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30307, USA
Little Five's giant oddball store is for the person whose favorite present is the one nobody else would've thought of. Clothing, accessories, pop-culture stuff and novelties fill the place. Not all of it is kid-friendly, so browse with care if you're shopping for younger relatives. Details: 464 Moreland Ave NE. Closed Tuesdays. The customer lot is for store visits only.

Virginia Highland Books
1034 N Highland Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30306, USA
A neighborhood bookstore is at its best when your brief is vague, and this one's a good example. Tell the bookseller two titles the person loved and one they didn't, and you'll leave with a real recommendation. Details: 1034 N Highland Ave NE.
Decatur and Avondale Estates Shops
Start on Decatur Square, where HomeGrown, Little Shop of Stories and Wild Oats & Billy Goats are close together and the Decatur MARTA station is right there. Charis, Brave + Kind, Kudzu and Garage Door Studio each take a short drive.

HomeGrown Decatur
412 Church St, Decatur, GA 30030, USA
Our first stop on a Decatur afternoon. Art, handmade jewelry, bath products, small home goods and Southern treats cover a lot of people on one list, and the local angle feels better than a skyline souvenir. Free gift wrapping is a nice bonus. Details: 412 Church St, Decatur.

Little Shop of Stories
133A E Court Square, Decatur, GA 30030
Decatur's children's bookstore is the anchor for any kid on your list. Skip the age printed on the reading list and look for the book that fits the actual child, whether that's funny, comforting or a little strange. There are books for adults too. Details: 133A E Court Square, Decatur.

Wild Oats & Billy Goats
112 E Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur, GA 30030, USA
This colorful gallery sells paintings, pottery, jewelry and objects by local and regional artists. It's the Decatur stop for someone whose home already has some personality. A small ceramic piece is a safer gift than trying to redecorate their living room. Details: 112 E Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur.

Charis Books & More
184 S Candler St, Decatur, GA 30030, USA
This feminist bookstore near Agnes Scott is the place for a gift that says something about what the person cares about. LGBTQ+ literature, essays and children's books are all strong here. Call ahead for a specific title, since an online listing doesn't mean it's on the shelf. Details: 184 S Candler St, Decatur.

Brave + Kind Bookshop
722 W College Ave, Decatur, GA 30030, USA
A thoughtfully stocked shop for young readers, with books that make room for different families, identities and experiences. It's smaller than a big bookstore, which helps when you're looking for one really good picture book. Details: 722 W College Ave, Decatur. Open Tue–Sun.

Kudzu Antiques + Modern
2928 E Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur, GA 30030, USA
Kudzu rewards anyone who likes a hunt. Antiques, vintage pieces and newer home furnishings fill the store, and a small piece of art or a serving dish is much easier to give than furniture. Check the return terms before you pay. Details: 2928 E Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur.

Garage Door Studio
128 N Avondale Rd, Avondale Estates, GA 30002, USA
Jewelry, ceramics, prints, glass and body products from makers fill this Avondale Estates shop. Workshops add another way to give something personal, especially to a friend who'd rather make things than own them. Details: 128 N Avondale Rd, Avondale Estates. Closed Mondays.
Buckhead, Midtown and Westside Shops
This is the side of town for bigger purchases, museum shops and food gifts. Buckhead's malls and Buckhead Village are separate stops, so pick one or two. Lenox and Phipps are both reachable from MARTA.

Lucy's Market
3402 Piedmont Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30305, USA
Lucy's now sits on Piedmont Road, and it's still the pick when presentation matters as much as what's inside. Gourmet food, tabletop pieces, home accessories and gift baskets handle hosts, relatives and clients. Baskets ship nationwide, and you can order ahead for pickup. Details: 3402 Piedmont Rd NE. Mon–Sat 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

Richards Variety Store
2347 Peachtree Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30305, USA
The antidote to taking every gift too seriously. This old-school five-and-dime has toys, games, cards and novelties for stockings and office exchanges, and its mechanical horse has been a fixture since 1958. There's a second store at Ansley Mall. Details: 2347 Peachtree Rd NE, Peachtree Battle Shopping Center. Mon–Sat 11 a.m.–6 p.m., Sun noon–5 p.m.

Buckhead Village District
3035 Peachtree Rd, Atlanta, GA 30305, USA
Pick this over a mall when you want shopping to feel like a day out. The walkable district mixes luxury and specialty stores, including Billy Reid, with places to stop for lunch. It works well for one considered gift, or for a couple choosing something together. Details: 3035 Peachtree Rd NE.

Phipps Plaza
3500 Peachtree Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30326, USA
Phipps is for when you already know the brand and the budget. Hermès, Dior and Cartier make it the city's luxury address, so it's a place to slow down over one significant gift, not to hunt for stocking stuffers. Cartier recommends booking an appointment. Details: 3500 Peachtree Rd NE.

Lenox Square
3393 Peachtree Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30326, USA
Lenox is the efficient choice when your list is full of familiar brands that people have specifically asked for. You won't find an obscure Atlanta-made gift here, but you can finish a lot of a list in one visit. Details: 3393 Peachtree Rd NE. Visitors under 18 need a parent or adult 21 or older after 3 p.m.

Atlanta History Center Museum Shop
130 W Paces Ferry Rd NW, Atlanta, GA 30305, USA
Regional history books lead the way here, with gifts and goods that widen things out beyond the bookshelf. It's a smart stop for a history reader or a new Atlantan, and you don't need museum admission to shop. Details: 130 W Paces Ferry Rd NW. Open Tue–Sun. Free deck parking.

High Museum Shop
1280 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta, GA 30309, USA
Exhibition books, art-inspired accessories and playful design objects make this an easy stop for creative friends. A book on an artist they love is the simple start. You don't need museum admission to shop here. Details: 1280 Peachtree St NE.

Atlantic Station
1380 Atlantic Dr NW, Atlanta, GA 30363, USA
A middle ground between a full mall trip and a neighborhood browse, with familiar stores, local businesses and meals in one open-air district. It's handy for visitors who want shopping and an outing in one place. Details: 1380 Atlantic Dr NW. The deck's first two hours are free, and a free shuttle runs from Arts Center MARTA. Under-18s need a parent or guardian after 3 p.m., and under-21s aren't allowed after 9 p.m.

Star Provisions
1460 Ellsworth Industrial Blvd NW, Atlanta, GA 30318, USA
The Westside's stop for people who'd be thrilled by something delicious or useful in the kitchen. Food, cookware and gifts make for a much better host gift than a bottle in a bag. Save anything chilled for the end of your day. Details: 1460 Ellsworth Industrial Blvd NW. Closed Mondays.

Sid Mashburn & Ann Mashburn
1198 Howell Mill Rd NW, Atlanta, GA 30318
These side-by-side shops are Atlanta's answer to the bigger clothing gift, with a polished point of view for someone who values lasting style. Clothes are personal, so accessories are the easier way in if you don't know their size. Details: 1198 Howell Mill Rd NW, Westside Provisions District. Mon–Sat 10 a.m.–6 p.m., closed Sundays.
Suburban Malls and Day Trips
These work best if you're already nearby or you're planning a day outside the city. Pick one direction and don't try to link them together.

Avalon
400 Avalon Blvd, Alpharetta, GA 30009
A polished open-air shopping day for anyone already north of the city. The broad retail mix and restaurants turn a practical gift list into a slow afternoon, and it deserves its own day rather than being bolted onto Buckhead or Decatur. Skating and Santa visits are booked separately. Details: 400 Avalon Blvd, Alpharetta.

Perimeter Mall
4400 Ashford Dunwoody Rd, Dunwoody, GA 30346
The weather-proof option for north-side shoppers with a list of established brands. It's also close to Spruill Gallery, so during the Holiday Art Fair you can get the practical gifts here and the handmade ones there. Details: 4400 Ashford Dunwoody Rd, Dunwoody.

Personify
5370 Peachtree Rd Ste B, Chamblee, GA 30341, USA
A fun pick for someone who likes color, illustration and a little whimsy in everyday things. Clothing, home goods and smaller gifts make it useful when you know their style but haven't settled on an object. It's the sort of shop where one journal or decorative piece can feel just right. Details: 5370 Peachtree Rd, Suite B, Chamblee. Closed Mondays.

Plaza Fiesta
4166 Buford Hwy NE, Atlanta, GA 30345, USA
Holiday shopping doesn't have to mean the same stores everywhere. This indoor marketplace on Buford Highway brings together businesses serving Atlanta's Latino communities, with clothing, accessories, jewelry and food. Each merchant sets its own policies, so ask about exchanges before you buy. Details: 4166 Buford Hwy NE.

Buford Highway Farmers Market
5600 Buford Hwy NE, Doraville, GA 30340, USA
This is a place to build a gift, not buy a premade one. Pick a cuisine or a favorite meal, choose sealed pantry items and add a note saying why you picked them. Leave anything refrigerated for your last stop. Details: 5600 Buford Hwy NE, Doraville.

The Local Exchange
130 S Park Square NE, Marietta, GA 30060, USA
This modern general store on Marietta Square mixes local foods, art, merchandise and vintage pieces, so it's the anchor for a Marietta trip. A food bundle works well for an out-of-town host or a relative who misses Georgia. Pair it with a stroll around the square. Details: 130 S Park Square NE, Marietta.

The Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta
915 Ridgewalk Pkwy, Woodstock, GA 30188, USA
Worth the drive to Woodstock if your list is heavy on recognizable apparel and footwear brands and you've got sizes in hand. Go with a spending limit, and compare prices before you assume the outlet tag means a deal. Details: 915 Ridgewalk Pkwy, Woodstock.

Ponce to Krog on the BeltLine. Start at Citizen Supply and The Village Retail, then hit Glad & Young, Rhen's Nest and Archer. Have lunch at the food hall, walk the Eastside Trail to Krog, and finish at The Merchant and Xocolatl.
A walkable Decatur afternoon. HomeGrown, Wild Oats & Billy Goats and Little Shop of Stories cover local art, gifts and books around the square. Add Charis or Brave + Kind on the way home, but plan on moving the car.
A Buford Highway gift run. Start at Personify in Chamblee for a colorful non-food gift, then pick Plaza Fiesta for a browse or Buford Highway Farmers Market for an edible bundle. Save the groceries for last, and drive between stops because it's not a walkable corridor.
