Best College Football Bars in Washington DC by School (2026)
Where every fan base watches in DC, Arlington and the Maryland suburbs, plus the best all-around sports bars for a full Saturday of games

Run a business in this guide, or want yours added? Get in touch.
A good college football bar is about more than finding a television. Some Saturdays you want a room full of people who know the fight song. Other Saturdays you want three games within sight, something decent to eat and a seat you can keep through the afternoon.
DC has both. Alumni groups gather everywhere from Adams Morgan pubs to the big Navy Yard sports bars, and a handful of places like Franklin Hall and Penn Quarter Sports Tavern make a strong case for settling in without committing to any one school's crowd.
This guide starts with a summary of every school and its bar, then goes conference by conference, then covers the best all-around bars for a mixed group. Virginia and Maryland locations are labeled throughout, so an Arlington watch party doesn't get mistaken for a bar in the District. Everything here was checked against alumni chapter listings, venue pages and local reporting in October 2026.

The SEC has the deepest bench of alumni bars in the city, with most of the conference claiming a room somewhere between Navy Yard and Dupont.
Alabama Crimson Tide Bars in Washington, DC

Maryland Terrapins Bars in Washington, DC
No confirmed 2026 home. This is the school most people will search for, so here's the honest answer: the DC Terps' longtime game-watch bar, Lou's City Bar, closed in 2025 and isn't coming back, and the alumni network hasn't published a replacement for football. Metrobar in NoMa hosted selected Terps games in past seasons. Check the DC Terps page or social accounts for the game you want, or default to one of the all-around bars below.

Best All-Around College Football Bars in Washington, DC
You don't need an alumni wristband to enjoy a Saturday of games. These are the places we'd start with for broad viewing, with the important differences spelled out.
Franklin Hall
Best for: Committing to a full afternoon of games
1348 Florida Avenue NW, U Street area
Franklin Hall is our first recommendation for a proper college football Saturday: a beer hall, plenty of screens and a viewing plan that doesn't depend on persuading a bartender to change the channel at halftime.
The venue posts its Saturday game assignments and keeps them fixed, so find your screen before you choose a seat. Georgia's chapter watches here, but the bar schedules major games across the whole slate.
Know before going: Saturdays and Sundays are 21+, so this isn't the family choice.

Franklin Hall
1348 Florida Ave NW, Washington, DC 20009, USA
Committing to a full afternoon of games
Tom's Watch Bar
Best for: A mixed group with several games to follow
1250 Half Street SE, Navy Yard
Tom's makes sense when the main requirement is an abundance of screens. The Navy Yard location is a big, purpose-built sports bar with a published game schedule, which is worth a look before you coordinate a group.
Minnesota and North Carolina alumni book events here, but you don't need to be part of either to settle in.
Know before going: Check the schedule for your exact matchup and ask about a reservation with a sightline.

Tom's Watch Bar
1250 Half St SE Retail Suite 106, Washington, DC 20003, USA
A mixed group with several games to follow
Penn Quarter Sports Tavern
Best for: A central, no-fuss sports bar afternoon
639 Indiana Avenue NW, Penn Quarter
PQST is the easy answer when people are coming from different parts of the city. Two bars, an outdoor patio, a dedicated sports schedule and the Archives Metro a block away.
Texas fans have the clearest claim here through the Texas Exes, and Boston College books selected games.
Know before going: On a big Texas Saturday, ask which screens are open for your game rather than assuming the whole bar is neutral.

Walter's Sports Bar
Best for: A screen-heavy Navy Yard afternoon with outdoor seating
10 N Street SE, Navy Yard
Walter's is a conventional sports bar in the best sense: more than 30 screens inside and out, and a "games we're showing today" section on its website. Florida State's club lists it as a sponsor bar.
Start with the published lineup, then sort out seating.
Know before going: Confirm whether your game gets sound. A big screen count doesn't mean every matchup gets equal treatment.

Sports & Social
Best for: A lively group outing built around one giant screen
1314 U Street NW, U Street
The 25-foot media wall is the main attraction. Sports & Social suits a group that wants the game to feel like an event, and its calendar already lists the Thanksgiving, rivalry-week and bowl games.
Nebraska's alumni group gives the room its college football identity. The menu is wings, sandwiches and pizza.
Know before going: The calendar also covers other sports and special events, so for a major Saturday ask which game gets the big screen and the sound.

Astro Beer Hall
Best for: A downtown meeting point with several alumni groups in the mix
1306 G Street NW, Downtown
Astro works when your group wants somewhere downtown without insisting on a single-school room. Two levels, televisions, pool and darts, and enough food for a long visit.
Colorado's chapter watches every game here; UCLA and Oklahoma fans have used it in recent seasons.
Know before going: There's a second Astro Beer Hall in Shirlington, Virginia, and that one is Clemson's. They aren't interchangeable.

The Midlands
Best for: Outdoor football with the Michigan crowd
3333 Georgia Avenue NW, Park View
The Midlands is the pick for people who'd rather spend a fall afternoon in a beer garden. The bar calls itself home to the Wolverines, with indoor and outdoor screens, game sound and a family- and dog-friendly setup.
For a mixed-team group, the question is whether your game fits around the Michigan watch.
Know before going: No tables are held on Michigan game days, so arrive early if you want to sit together.

The Brig
Best for: A beer-garden Saturday on the Capitol Hill side of town
1007 8th Street SE, Barracks Row
A strong alternative to the bigger indoor rooms: outdoor seating, draft beer and an enclosed, heated setup once the weather turns. LSU is the college affiliation to know.
The Brig describes itself as dog- and kid-friendly.
Know before going: It closes early in the week during the cold months, and for a non-LSU game, ask about screens around the LSU schedule.

Ivy and Coney
Best for: A neighborhood bar with a clear identity
1537 7th Street NW, Shaw
Ivy and Coney isn't trying to be all things to all fans. Its Chicago-and-Detroit roots are the appeal, alongside the Michigan partnership, Detroit-style pizza and Midwestern bar food.
We'd choose it for a smaller group rather than as a meeting point for a party supporting six different schools.
Know before going: 21+.

Mission Navy Yard
Best for: Football as part of a bigger group day out
1221 Van Street SE, Navy Yard
Mission is the recommendation for a group that wants football, food and a livelier social scene in one plan. Its football page lists 21 televisions and names Iowa and Texas A&M as its official schools.
Know before going: Keep the two Missions straight. Navy Yard is the Iowa and A&M bar; Dupont is where Houston, SMU and Arizona fans gather.

Irish Channel
Best for: A Chinatown pub with three alumni groups and the sound on
500 H Street NW, Chinatown
A traditional pub that has quietly become one of the busiest college bars downtown: Oregon, Pitt and Colorado State all run their DC watches here.
Good for a game you care about when the big Navy Yard rooms feel like too much.
Know before going: On a Saturday with more than one of its schools playing, the rooms get split, so ask where your game is.

Public Bar Live
Best for: A sports afternoon that turns into a night out
1214 18th Street NW, Dupont Circle
Multiple floors and more than 40 screens make Public Bar Live another option when the priority is broad viewing rather than one alumni group.
Its programming also includes live music and weekend nightlife, so it's the choice for a social Saturday that keeps going, not uninterrupted commentary through a late West Coast finish.
Know before going: Check the event schedule and ask which room your game will be in.

Crystal City Sports Pub (Arlington, VA)
Best for: Starting early or joining one of several established fan groups
529 23rd Street South, Arlington, Virginia
Crystal City Sports Pub deserves a place in a DC-area guide as long as the location is clear. It opens at 8 a.m., and Ohio State, Florida State and Navy all use it as an official room this season.
If you're staying in Crystal City or meeting friends in Northern Virginia, it can be a better plan than crossing into the District just because the guide title says "Washington."
Know before going: Pick the relevant alumni event or ask about your game's viewing area before settling in.

How to Choose the Right College Football Bar in DC
Decide whether you want your team's crowd or the whole slate
For one game you care deeply about, start with the alumni listing. For an afternoon following several matchups, start with the all-around bars. The best room for singing a fight song isn't always the best room for keeping an eye on an unrelated game in the opposite corner.
Ask about sound, not just screens
The question that matters is: "Will you have this exact game, and will the sound be on?" Local fans distinguish sharply between seeing a game on a screen and being able to follow it with commentary. That difference matters most for smaller matchups and at bars balancing college football with other Saturday programming.
Build in time before kickoff
Arrive 45 to 60 minutes early for an organized watch, and more for a big rivalry or a large group. Before anyone orders, make sure the screen you can see is assigned to the game you came for.
Treat a late kickoff as its own plan
For a late West Coast game, ask whether the bar will show it through the finish, whether the kitchen stays open and whether another event will change the room's setup. "Open late" and "showing your game until the end" aren't the same thing.
Check the exact branch
The easiest mistakes involve the right name and the wrong location: Mission Dupont versus Mission Navy Yard, Astro Downtown versus Astro Shirlington, Whitlow's on U Street versus Whitlow's at The Wharf, Proper 21 K Street versus another Proper 21. Use the address on the alumni announcement.
