A good Thanksgiving order gives you a calmer morning, a table full of food everyone actually wants, and a decent shot at leftovers. Houston gives you plenty of ways to get there: a traditional roast-turkey dinner, a whole bird off a barbecue pit, Cajun fried turkey, or a vegetarian feast that's more interesting than another side of green beans.
These are the Houston orders we'd start with, from dinner for two to a spread for the extended family, plus where to pick up just the turkey, a few sides, or the pie you have no intention of baking. Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, 2026, and the first order deadlines land the week before. Rather someone else do the dishes? Our Houston Thanksgiving restaurants guide covers where to eat out that day.

Tips for ordering Thanksgiving takeout
- Check hot, chilled or mixed. Picking up on Thanksgiving Day doesn't mean dinner is ready to serve. Federal's holiday meal is packed cold, and Pappas and Pinkerton's send hot meat with cold sides. Read the reheating instructions before Thursday so the pans fit and the oven schedule works.
- Size to appetite, not just head count. Treat a package's serving range as a starting point. Near the top of the range, add a side or more meat, and if next-day sandwiches matter, a whole bird beats a breast.
- Confirm the branch and the handoff. Several kitchens run Thanksgiving out of specific locations only. Before paying, check the pickup branch, date and time, and reserve a delivery slot if you need one rather than assuming it's included.
