The best way to do Broadway isn't to visit the most bars. It's to find a few you actually want to stay in.
For traditional country, start with Robert's Western World and Layla's. For rooftop river views, head to Acme Feed & Seed. For a celebrity bar that still puts country music first, try AJ's Good Time Bar. For a proper meal before the evening gets louder, look at Friends in Low Places, Chief's, or The Twelve Thirty Club.
This guide covers the honky-tonks and bars of Lower Broadway, plus three nearby spots worth a short detour. Entries are grouped by the kind of night they suit, not ranked, so you can choose between a country band, a rooftop party, a real meal, and a night of singing along.

Best classic honky-tonks on Lower Broadway
These are the rooms that made Lower Broadway famous: live country bands, no standard cover, and a stage you can stand a few feet from. Start here if the music is the point.

Robert's Western World
416 Broadway # B, Nashville, TN 37203, USA
Our first recommendation for anyone who wants to understand why Broadway became a destination. The bands play traditional country, and the room is about the music, not the number of floors. Order the Recession Special: a fried bologna sandwich, chips, a Moon Pie, and a cold PBR for a few dollars. Plan it: make this an anchor stop, tip the musicians, and stay for a full set.

Layla's Honky Tonk
418 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37203, USA
Country, Americana, bluegrass, western music, and rockabilly give Layla's a rootsier identity than the all-purpose party bars. License plates overhead add character without competing with the stage. Plan it: free admission; tip the band.

Tootsie's Orchid Lounge
422 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37203, USA
The purple building has been a honky-tonk since 1960, and its back door sits across a narrow alley from the Ryman. That made it the hangout for Opry performers and songwriters, Willie Nelson among them. Three stages mean the night changes floor by floor, but give the downstairs room a set before heading up. Plan it: no standard cover; seating is first come, first served.

Legends Corner
428 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37203, USA
Walls lined with album covers and a steady run of live country bands. It pairs naturally with Robert's and Layla's for a night built around the stage. Plan it: best for standing near the band; it's not a spot for a long sit-down conversation.

The Stage on Broadway
412 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37203, USA
A main stage, second floor, and rooftop put The Stage somewhere between the traditional rooms and the big party buildings. It suits a group where some people want to watch a band and others want to keep moving. Plan it: walk the floors before you settle in.

AJ's Good Time Bar
421 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37203, USA
Alan Jackson's four-floor bar keeps country music front and center, with karaoke and a rooftop up top. Of all the celebrity-branded spots, it has the clearest musical identity. Plan it: third-floor karaoke starts at 6 p.m.

Nudie's Honky Tonk
409 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37203, USA
Nudie Cohn's rhinestone stage costumes, a customized Cadillac, and a bar inlaid with silver dollars give this place its own personality. Live bands play downstairs and DJs take over the rooftop. Plan it: look around the ground floor first; the memorabilia is the point.

Bootleggers Inn
207 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37201, USA
A two-floor moonshine bar with a long list of flavors, tasting flights, live music every day, and line dancing upstairs. A smaller, looser stop between the big multi-floor buildings. Plan it: order a flight to try a few flavors, and check the dancing schedule.

Best Broadway bars for dinner, rooftops, and shows
When dinner, a view, or a ticketed show is the plan, these are the buildings that handle it well. Most take reservations, and two of them, Bell Bottoms Up and This Bar, sit a block or two off Broadway.

Acme Feed & Seed
101 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37201, USA
Our strongest all-round pick: a full menu, live music downstairs, and a rooftop looking out over the Cumberland River. The music runs broader than traditional country, which helps when the group's tastes don't line up. Plan it: pair a downstairs set with rooftop time.

Eric Church's Chief's
200 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37201, USA
Eric Church's six-story building at Second Avenue opens with a poster-covered tavern stage, with the Friendly Shadows dueling-piano bar on the second floor. Above that sits the Neon Steeple, a two-level concert room with church pews, and Rodney Scott's Whole Hog BBQ handles the food. Plan it: Neon Steeple shows are ticketed, so check the calendar before you go.

Friends in Low Places
411 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37203, USA
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood's place serves Southern-leaning food with live music below and the Oasis rooftop above. Book it when the group wants to eat together first and keep the night going in the same building. Plan it: book dinner separately from rooftop or VIP plans; the venue is cashless.

Ole Red
300 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37201, USA
Blake Shelton's venue pairs a full restaurant with a live band and the Lookout rooftop. Go when the music is meant to be part of dinner, not a stop afterward. Plan it: dining is walk-in, not reservation-based.

The Twelve Thirty Club
550 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37203, USA
The First Level, the Supper Club, and the rooftop each offer a different version of a night out. This is the dressed-up pick, a short walk up Broadway from the honky-tonk core. Plan it: reserve the specific room you want; the spaces aren't interchangeable.

Miranda Lambert's Casa Rosa
308 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37201, USA
Miranda Lambert's spot pairs Tex-Mex with a pink-forward room, live music, and a rooftop. It's a natural fit for birthday dinners and bachelorette groups. Plan it: reserve dinner when the table matters; rooftop and VIP arrangements are separate.

Luke's 32 Bridge
301 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37201, USA
Luke Bryan's multi-level bar mixes live bands, rooftop space, and easygoing bar-and-grill food. Pick it when the group wants modern country and plenty of room to move between floors. Plan it: book a table if dinner is part of the plan; reservations are available.

Lainey Wilson's Bell Bottoms Up
120 3rd Ave S, Nashville, TN 37201, USA
Lainey Wilson's three-story spot just off Broadway leans into her Louisiana roots, with Cajun-inspired cooking and the Bayou Keys dueling pianos. Come for dinner and a singalong instead of another cover-band set. Plan it: dining reservations are limited; check the piano schedule.

Morgan Wallen's This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen
107 4th Ave N, Nashville, TN 37219, USA
Morgan Wallen's multi-floor bar, a short walk off Broadway, serves Tennessee-inspired food with live music and a rooftop. Go if you're a fan; if not, the honky-tonks on Broadway itself are the better use of your night. Plan it: dining reservations are limited, so book ahead if you want a table.
Best Broadway party bars for big groups
The multi-floor buildings are made for groups: several stages, rooftops, VIP tables, and room for everyone to split up and find each other again. Category 10, a block off Broadway, adds line-dancing lessons to the mix.

Dierks Bentley's Whiskey Row
400 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37203, USA
Dierks Bentley's bar is a full-scale party building with live music, a kitchen, a rooftop, and VIP tables. Bring the birthday or bachelor group here; it's built for celebrations. Plan it: look into a VIP table if the group needs guaranteed space.

Honky Tonk Central
329 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37201, USA
Three floors, three bars, and three stages make Honky Tonk Central easy to figure out: follow the best-sounding band and stay as long as the group is having fun. Plan it: groups that need guaranteed space should arrange a reservation or VIP experience.

Jason Aldean's Kitchen + Rooftop Bar
307 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37201, USA
Several levels of live music, DJs, rooftop space, and VIP tables make this one of the street's biggest party buildings. Come with a group that wants volume and a late night. Plan it: decide whether you need dinner seating, a VIP table, or general admission.

JBJ's Nashville
405 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37203, USA
Jon Bon Jovi's bar brings music memorabilia, several stages, and two rooftops. Good for the friend who's had enough country for one night. Plan it: the Steel Horse Lounge takes select reservations.

Jelly Roll's Goodnight Nashville
209 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37201, USA
Jelly Roll's tattoo-themed building has a honky-tonk floor, Bunnie's nightclub, and a rooftop billed as the highest in Music City. It lets the night shift from live band to DJ without leaving the building. Plan it: start with the band downstairs and save the rooftop for later in the night.

Posty's
305 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37201, USA
Post Malone's bar mixes live music, food, a rooftop, and basement karaoke. Come ready to sing; this is a stop where the crowd is part of the show. Plan it: karaoke runs Thursday through Sunday.

Kane Brown's on Broadway
312 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37201, USA
A main floor, a mezzanine, the Dusk Lounge, and the Dusk Rooftop make this one of the street's newer multi-level buildings. Worth it for Kane Brown fans or anyone who's already done the classics. Plan it: choose the room and reservation that match the night you want.

Category 10
120 2nd Ave N, Nashville, TN 37201, USA
Luke Combs' bar, a block off Broadway, has Hurricane Hall with scheduled line-dancing lessons, plus a honky-tonk room, the Still whiskey lounge, and the Eye rooftop. It's the best pick for a group that wants an activity, not just a bar. Plan it: check free lesson times; standard table reservations aren't available.
Three ways to plan a night on Broadway
Traditional country: Robert's → Layla's → AJ's. All three sit within a few doors of each other. Give Robert's and Layla's enough time for real sets, then cross the street to AJ's for karaoke or a change of scene. Stay put if a band is excellent.
First visit: Tootsie's → Robert's → Acme. The famous purple honky-tonk, our traditional-country favorite, and a rooftop over the river, without three similar celebrity buildings in a row.
Bachelorette night: Casa Rosa → Category 10 → Whiskey Row. (For the full weekend, see our Nashville bachelorette party guide.) Tex-Mex dinner, a line-dancing lesson, then a 21+ party to finish. Check Category 10's lesson times before you set the dinner reservation.
What to know before heading to Broadway
Free entry doesn't mean a free night. Many bars have no standard music cover, but food, drinks, band tips, ticketed shows, and VIP areas all add up. Carry a card and some cash for the musicians; a few venues are cashless.
Book dinner when dinner matters. Friends in Low Places, Casa Rosa, Luke's, and The Twelve Thirty Club all take dinner reservations. A dinner booking usually doesn't cover rooftop or VIP access.
Age policies vary. A bar that welcomes families at lunch might turn 21+ anywhere from 6 to 10 p.m., and some rooftops stay 21+ all day. The table above has each venue's rule; confirm the day and floor before you go.
Eat before, not after. Most honky-tonk kitchens close long before the bar does, and Robert's fried bologna is the exception rather than the rule. Hattie B's and Prince's both have counters at Fifth + Broadway (see our Nashville hot chicken guide), and when the night runs late, our late-night food guide lists when each kitchen actually stops. If Broadway isn't your scene, our Nashville bars for your 30s guide covers the neighborhoods instead.
