Best Christmas Bars and Holiday Pop-Ups in Chicago for 2026
From ornament-filled neighborhood pubs to all-out Christmas parties, 22 places to build a holiday night around.

A good Christmas bar gives you a reason to stay after the photos. Maybe that's a warm holiday drink, a table full of friends, a proper pub dinner, or a dance floor where everyone has committed to the ridiculous sweater. Chicago has room for all of those nights, and picking the right one matters more than finding the bar with the most ornaments.
This guide pulls together the city's long-running Christmas traditions and its more elaborate seasonal pop-ups. Start with the quick picks, then settle on a neighborhood and a pace for the evening. One place you're excited about, with time to settle in, usually beats trying to hit five crowded bars in a night.
A note for early planners: we updated this guide in late October 2026. Several venues have announced the coming season and others are still getting ready. Dates are included wherever this year's plans are clear. The longtime holiday pubs are grouped together, and pop-ups still waiting on their 2026 details have their own section. We'll continue to update this guide as more venues announce their plans.

Chicago Christmas Bars: The Classics
These are year-round bars and restaurants with real holiday traditions behind them. Butch McGuire's has already posted its seasonal guidance, and Club Lucky has announced its November 14 decorating day. Everywhere else, the tradition itself is the draw; 2026 menus and decoration dates are still to come.

Butch McGuire's
20 W Division St, Chicago, IL 60610, USA
Ornaments and lights cover every surface, model trains circle overhead, and the whole room feels like it was built for a holiday gathering. Butch's has been doing this for decades, which is why it's the first name most Chicagoans give you, and the trains' sponsors support Mercy Home for Boys & Girls. Decorations go up the first week of November; come for lunch or an early drink if you want time to take it all in. The signature order is the chocolate-and-peppermint Christmas In Your Mouth; the current Christmas on the Rocks version runs $15. Plan your visit: December is first come, first served, with complete parties required and roughly 90 minutes at dining tables during peak times. For a family meal, come at lunchtime. The bar is 21+ after 8 p.m. and opens every day, including Christmas.

Chief O'Neill's
3471 N Elston Ave, Chicago, IL 60618, USA
Snowflakes, ornaments, wreaths and lights spread across the room and overhead, turning an already welcoming Irish pub into somewhere that feels properly festive, with a fireplace at the center. This is the pick when you want the decorations and a full dinner to carry equal weight: fish and chips or shepherd's pie fit the setting, and a reservation gives the night a little structure. Plan your visit: Reserve ahead for dinner, especially during the holidays. Open Wednesday through Sunday, closed Monday and Tuesday. Watch the events calendar for music dates.

Miller's Pub
134 S Wabash Ave, Chicago, IL 60603, USA
Dark wood, stained glass, booths and holiday decorations give Miller's an old-Chicago warmth that makes a downtown Christmas outing feel complete, whether you're coming from a show, State Street shopping or the Art Institute. The drink to know is the Tom & Jerry, a warm holiday tradition made with spiced egg-and-sugar batter, rum and brandy. Order one once seasonal service begins. Plan your visit: Book a dining table if you want a meal at a specific time. The regular bar schedule runs to 2 a.m.; holiday-day hours and the seasonal drink menu may differ.

Club Lucky
1824 W Wabansia Ave, Chicago, IL 60622, USA
Handmade snowflakes hang from the ceiling, garlands frame the room, and wreaths, ornaments and lights fill out the rest. Club Lucky pairs a cocktail lounge you can build an evening around with an Italian restaurant that gives everyone a reason to stay for dinner. Martini drinkers start at the bar, where seasonal versions join the holiday lineup. Snow Flake Day, the announced decorating day, is November 14, 2026. Plan your visit: Reserve dining tables through Resy, and arrive with your full party. Closed on December 24 and 25, so plan this one for another night in the season.

Simon's Tavern
5210 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60640, USA
At Simon's, the holiday drink is reason enough to make the trip. This Swedish-rooted Andersonville tavern has long been tied to glögg, the warm spiced wine served with a spice cookie that turns a cold-weather bar stop into something to look forward to. The rest of the evening is the point too: a familiar tavern, a jukebox, and one of Chicago's better shopping streets right outside. Weekends get lively, so an afternoon or weekday visit is the smarter choice. Plan your visit: Bring cash. For glögg, follow the tavern's seasonal opening announcement. Pairs naturally with dinner at Lady Gregory's up the street.

Lady Gregory's
5260 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60640, USA
Lady Gregory's is where an Andersonville holiday outing gets its dinner reservation. The Irish pub setting, seasonal decorations and full food menu make it easy to gather friends around a table and let the evening unfold, and locals keep bringing it up when the question is where to eat as well as drink. Plan your visit: Reserve a dining table, especially for a group. An early dinner leaves time for glögg at Simon's Tavern afterward.

The Duck Inn
2701 S Eleanor St, Chicago, IL 60608, USA
The corner tavern and dining room already lend themselves to a cozy dinner, and Christmas adds an enthusiastic layer of decorations and music on top. The holiday cocktail history is the other reason to keep it on the list: the bar has served an especially rich Tom & Jerry made with duck eggs and milk tea, finished with a torched-sugar top, and that's the seasonal favorite to look for when the new menu lands. Plan your visit: Book dinner through Resy. Make this the main stop of the night, with time for a cocktail before your food. Holiday-day openings may differ from the regular schedule.
Chicago Christmas Pop-Ups Announced for 2026
These seasonal venues have confirmed a 2026 return. Santa Baby and The Christmas Inn have published a season range, Elf'd Up has named its opening day, and Noche Buena has announced November with the finer details on the way.

Santa Baby
3505 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60657, USA
Multiple rooms and levels, oversized holiday displays, elaborate drinks and photo spots at every turn: Santa Baby is the one for when the decorations are the main event. The food leans in too, with pizza, burgers, festive shakes and shareable bites. Table reservations run 90 minutes for up to six guests; bigger groups should look at a cabana or private event. A separate standing-room ticket covers the patio and partially enclosed rooftop. What a reservation costs: $10 per person plus a 2% OpenTable fee, of which $8.05 is refunded on arrival and $1.95 kept as a booking fee. On select December dates a separate $5 cover applies to guests 12 and older, reservation or not. Separate table bookings don't guarantee seats together. Plan your visit: November 20, 2026 – January 3, 2027. Under-21 guests welcome before 8 p.m. with a parent or legal guardian; December 12 is 21+ all day for TBOX. Cashless. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day hours are noon – 8 p.m., with a limited food menu.

Elf'd Up at Stretch Bar & Grill
3485 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60657, USA
If your group can quote Elf start to finish, the decision is already made. Stretch's seasonal transformation is built around the movie, with themed cocktails, holiday food and a lively bar atmosphere, and it's the kind of casual catch-up that turns into a Christmas night out without anyone planning it. There's no cover and entry is first come, first served, so arriving early gives you more flexibility. Plan your visit: Opens November 7, 2026; full holiday schedule still to come. Under-21 guests allowed before 6 p.m. Monday – Thursday and before 2 p.m. Friday – Sunday. Ordinary tables are walk-in only; private parties are booked separately.

The Christmas Inn at Hubbard Inn
110 W Hubbard St, Chicago, IL 60654, USA
Hubbard Inn gives a group more than one way to spend the evening together. The 2026 Christmas Inn plans pair seasonal food and cocktails with music bingo, wine tastings, cocktail-making classes, themed brunches and ornament decorating. Pick an activity you actually want to do, then let the drinks and decorations fill in around it. A handy option for an after-work gathering or any holiday get-together where somebody has to make a plan. Plan your visit: November 13, 2026 – January 10, 2027. The detailed calendar, menus and event prices are still to follow; dining reservations and individual events may book differently.
Noche Buena: Latin holiday flavors and music
Noche Buena gives the holiday-bar circuit a personality all its own. Coquito, ponche, Chocolate Abuelita, tamales and Latin holiday music are the heart of it, with a celebration inspired by Christmas gatherings across Latin America. Put it near the top of your list if the food and the soundtrack matter as much as the decorations.
The organizers have announced a November 2026 return and are taking signups for both Wrigleyville and River North. Exact dates, addresses, age rules, menu prices and ticket options are still to come; the current signup is for announcements only. We'll add it to the map once the ticket release names a location.
More Chicago Holiday Pop-Ups Worth Watching
These pop-ups have earned a spot on the holiday shortlist, but their full 2026 plans weren't available when we checked. The descriptions below draw on past editions and explain why each one is worth keeping an eye on. Check the venue links for new announcements before building your evening around a particular theme or menu.

River North Pole at Three Dots and a Dash
435 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60654, USA
River North Pole drops winter decorations into Three Dots' tropical setting, and the mix gives the room a character you won't find at the usual Christmas pub. Earlier editions paired playful holiday mugs with seasonal cocktails and warm drinks, which is why it belongs near the top of any cocktail-first shortlist. The bar is already advertising the pop-up's return in November. Plan your visit: November return advertised; full 2026 schedule and holiday menu still to come. Use the main bar's reservation link, and remember the entrance is in the alley.

A Very Dandy Holiday at The Dandy Crown
694 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60642, USA
Previous Christmas editions at The Dandy Crown combined elaborate decorations with seasonal drinks, including alcohol-free options, which makes it a useful pick for friends with different drinking habits. It's a holiday outing built around a cocktail bar rather than a party. The all-season patio is enclosed and heated in winter and welcomes dogs. Plan your visit: 2026 holiday dates and menu still to come. The regular venue takes reservations through Tock and is cashless.

Reindeer Room at Tack Room
1807 S Allport St, Chicago, IL 60608, USA
Tack Room is for people who'd rather give the evening a soundtrack. This intimate piano lounge and cabaret is tucked into Thalia Hall, and its past Reindeer Room seasons layered festive decorations and holiday drinks onto that setting. The bar serves cocktails and small bites from Mariscos San Pedro, and the venue opens on programmed nights with separate Saturday hours. Plan your visit: 2026 Reindeer Room dates still to come. Check Tack Room's music calendar when choosing your evening.

Frosty's Christmas Bar
809 W Evergreen Ave, Chicago, IL 60642, USA
Four bars across three levels, two dance floors and decorations in every direction give Frosty's the scale of a Christmas party you can wander through. Life-size nutcrackers, holiday music and seasonal cocktails keep the theme going as the night picks up. This is the one for a birthday, a reunion, or the friends who are already planning their festive outfits; the party is the point, so handle dinner somewhere else first. Plan your visit: Frosty's is 21+. Join the official waitlist for the new season's dates and ticket options.

Christmas Club at Country Club
3462 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60657, USA
In previous seasons, Country Club filled multiple rooms with decorations while DJs worked holiday songs into the party soundtrack. It suited a group of friends who wanted Christmas music, a busy bar and nothing to plan, either as a stop on a Wrigleyville evening or a longer celebration in one place. Plan your visit: 2026 dates still to come. Free entry in previous seasons.

8 Crazy Nights at The Graystone Tavern
3441 N Sheffield Ave, Chicago, IL 60657, USA
8 Crazy Nights gives Wrigleyville's holiday season a celebration of its own. This is a Hanukkah pop-up, with blue-and-white lights, themed cocktails and a tavern atmosphere that suits catching up with friends. Past seasons have put latkes and matzo ball soup alongside the playful drinks, so the food gets a real role. Make this the main stop if Hanukkah is the holiday you're celebrating together. Plan your visit: 2026 dates and menu still to come.

Sugar Plum Parlour at The Albion Manor
1480 W Webster Ave, Chicago, IL 60614, USA
The Albion Manor's upstairs cocktail room is a promising setting for a festive date. The previous Sugar Plum Parlour edition dressed the space for Christmas and built the evening around seasonal drinks, with special events on selected nights. It's a different scale of outing from the big multi-floor party venues. Plan for the stairs; the venue says outright that they're required. Plan your visit: 2026 dates still to come. Reservations were encouraged last season.

Holiday Honky Tonk at Big Star Wrigleyville
3640 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60613, USA
Big Star's 2025 Holiday Honky Tonk gave Christmas some Nashville flair, with pink accents, glittery decorations and a soundtrack that mixed holiday favorites with country. The seasonal menu ran to brisket nachos, walking tacos and a prickly-pear Rhinestone Rita. It made sense for a group that wanted dinner as part of the outing, with enough personality to turn the meal into an occasion. Plan your visit: 2026 theme and dates still to come.

Mistletoe at Mordecai
3632 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60613, USA
Mordecai's 2025 Mistletoe transformation brought Christmas decorations and a seasonal food-and-drink menu into the first-floor dining room. It worked for couples and smaller groups near Wrigley Field who wanted to start with dinner and leave room for one more cocktail, and it pairs naturally with a wander around Gallagher Way when the holiday market is running. Plan your visit: 2026 dates still to come.

Jingle Junkie at Roadhouse 66
3478 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60657, USA
Earlier Jingle Junkie seasons gave Roadhouse 66 a ski-lodge makeover, complete with a covered, heated patio, a fireplace and a chairlift setup for photos. On a cold Chicago night it's somewhere to shed a few layers, find a warm drink and linger with friends. A December 2025 visit by City Cast Chicago singled out the mulled wine and the jazzy Christmas soundtrack. Plan your visit: 2026 dates still to come. Free entry in previous seasons.

Smoke Daddy's Winter Wonderland
3636 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60613, USA
Smoke Daddy's 2025 holiday transformation took its cue from Christmas at home in the 1950s. Tinsel, glowing red-and-green decorations and fireside seating gave the barbecue restaurant a nostalgic setting for dinner and drinks, and the season included family activities, holiday movie trivia and a Santa brunch, which made it worth considering for outings that crossed generations. Plan your visit: 2026 theme and events still to come.
A Few Good Ways to Plan the Evening
The full Wrigleyville Christmas outing. Start at Christkindlmarket Wrigleyville at Gallagher Way, then pick Santa Baby for a reserved table or Elf'd Up for a walk-in stop. The market runs November 20 – December 31, 2026, with free admission, and is closed Christmas Day. Keep the rest of the night loose after your main bar; a second stop is more fun when nobody's rushing through the first.
An Andersonville evening. Book dinner at Lady Gregory's, then walk a little farther south on Clark to Simon's for glögg once its winter season is underway. The two are a compact pairing, and a good one if your group would rather have a long conversation than a packed schedule.
A classic downtown stop. Make Miller's Pub the drinks or dinner stop after your downtown holiday plans. Give Butch McGuire's its own evening if you want its decorations and crowd their proper time. You don't need to cross the city twice to make the night feel complete.
Dinner is the occasion. Reserve Club Lucky, Chief O'Neill's or The Duck Inn and let dinner be the plan. All three work for visiting parents, a couple, or friends who want a festive night with a real meal.
Before You Book
Put December 12 on your calendar for a reason. TBOX takes over Wrigleyville on Saturday, December 12, 2026. If a huge costume bar crawl is your idea of a great day, plan around it. If you're organizing a family visit or hoping for a slower meal, pick another date. Santa Baby is 21+ all day during TBOX and limits access during the crawl to its ticket holders.
Choose the booking that fits the evening. A table reservation, standing-room admission and a drinks package can describe very different experiences at the same venue. Decide first whether your group needs seats and a meal, then compare the total charge, time limit and inclusions for that option. Santa Baby's table deposit, select-date cover and standing-room tickets are three separate products.
For a bigger group, book as a group. If staying together is the priority, use the venue's group-dining, cabana or private-event option. Several individual reservations are a poor stand-in for one plan, especially where rooms and floors are booked separately.
Let timing do some of the work. An early visit or a weekday gives you more time to look around and a better shot at sitting down. Butch McGuire's and Elf'd Up both encourage early visits. If you're bringing kids, make the venue's actual age cutoff part of the plan; a family-friendly afternoon can turn into an adults-only evening.
