Best Bars in Chicago for Large Groups (2026)
Birthday drinks for 25, an office happy hour for 40, or a reunion that keeps getting bigger: the Chicago bars that make getting everyone together easier.

Finding a bar for four is easy. Finding one for 25 is a different problem. Most of the time you don't need to buy out a bar: you need a few tables, somewhere to put a cake, and a way for everyone to buy their own drinks. Other nights call for a private back room, a proper cocktail reservation, or an activity that gets people talking.
This guide is organized around those plans. Start with the shortlist, choose the right group size, then find the kind of bar that suits the night. Each entry says how you get the space and the one thing to know before inviting everyone. Booking policies were checked in October 2026. Group sizes are what each bar really works for, not guaranteed walk-in seating, and package prices usually exclude tax and gratuity.

Choose a bar by group size
For 10 to 15 people: Start with Midwest Coast, Franklin Tap, or a standard reservation at Guinness Open Gate. Sparrow is the cocktail choice if you're happy to arrange a reserved section.
For 20 to 30 people: Emporium, Kaiser Tiger, Revolution's Kedzie taproom, Pilot Project, Beermiscuous and Ten Cat are the most useful starting points. Each has a booking option that doesn't mean taking over the whole venue.
For 30 to 50 people: Look at Haymarket, Pilot Project, Simone's, Royal Palms or Sluggers. Decide whether you need privacy or just an agreed place for everyone to gather.
For 50 or more: Easy Bar, Sheffield's, Benchmark, Three Dots and a Dash and Old Crow Smokehouse have larger bookable spaces. At this size, compare dedicated rooms and party terms rather than relying on ordinary table reservations.
Best Big Pubs and Casual Party Bars in Chicago
Start here for a birthday, reunion or drinks-and-food night where the group matters more than an elaborate plan. Several of these sell per-person wristband packages, so guests pay their own way and nobody has to put a card down for the whole night.

Kaiser Tiger
1415 W Randolph St, Chicago, IL 60607, USA
Randolph Street beer hall with one of the biggest beer gardens in the West Loop, plus bocce in summer and curling in winter. For 10 to 20, email ahead for a table. Past 20 it becomes an event booking, and the Banquette, a raised semi-private space off the main bar, fits 15 to 20 seated or 20 to 30 standing. The beer garden can't be reserved on its own.

Haymarket Pub & Brewery
737 W Randolph St, Chicago, IL 60661, USA
Big West Loop brewpub that's set up for groups. Up to 40 can reserve half of The Tavern, which has its own pool table and darts. There's no room fee, but there is a food and drink minimum that depends on the date, and drink packages start at $36 a person for two hours. The other half of the room may host another party.

Sheffield's Wine & Beer Garden
3258 N Sheffield Ave, Chicago, IL 60657, USA
Lakeview bar with four bars, three party rooms and a shaded beer garden, so a group of 20 to 50 can have its own corner without a buyout. Packages run two or three hours, and the minimum depends on the date. Say whether you want the garden when you book. It fills up after Cubs games.

Benchmark
1510 N Wells St, Chicago, IL 60610, USA
Two-floor Old Town sports bar with semi-private lounges for 20, 30 or 35 people standing, plus a second floor with its own bar and a retractable roof for up to 150. Book through the events team. Loud and lively, built for a party rather than a quiet catch-up.

Simone's
960 W 18th St, Chicago, IL 60608, USA
Pilsen bar with an Art Lab room for 75 or more that has its own bar and sound system, so you can bring a DJ or a playlist. Group reservations start at 15 and private parties at 25. They never charge a room fee, and private parties have a $900 minimum. Saturday nights have a cover.

Lincoln Tap Room
3010 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL 60657, USA
The budget pick for a Lakeview birthday. There's no charge for the party area, and guests buy wristbands: from $20 a person for two hours of drafts, well drinks and wine, up to a full open bar for four hours. $5 off Sunday through Thursday, and prices go up $5 on January 1, 2027. Pool and darts in the back.

Easy Bar
1944 W Division St, Chicago, IL 60622, USA
Division Street bar with a big back room for 30 to 70 and a daily half-price happy hour. Smaller groups can reserve front tables for free. A private back-room party runs three hours between 7 and 11pm with no room fee, with either a $50 or $60 open bar or a $1,000 cash-bar minimum. No kitchen, so bring or order food.
Chicago Bars With Free Reservations or No Minimum Spend
These are the options to check before committing everyone to a package. The distinction matters: a free table hold, a free private room and a no-minimum reservation aren't the same thing. Downtown, Franklin Tap also has no minimum for groups under 25; it's in the after-work section below.

Emporium Arcade Bar
2363 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647, USA
Arcade bar with pinball, skee-ball and pool, and the clearest free-table policy in the city: Chicago groups of 35 or fewer can reserve tables at no charge with no minimum tab, and everyone pays for their own drinks. Bring or order in food. Be on time, since they can release the tables if you're more than 10 minutes late. Same policy at the Wicker Park and Fulton Market locations. 21 and over.

Ten Cat Tavern
3931 N Ashland Ave, Chicago, IL 60613, USA
Lakeview neighborhood bar with a fireplace back room, the Century Room, that you can book for free: no room fee, no drink minimum, and you can bring any food you like. It suits 20 to 30 and opens onto the beer garden, which stays open to everyone. 21 and over, and the music comes from the jukebox. Book early, the room is popular.

Long Room Chicago
1612 W Irving Park Rd Ste 1, Chicago, IL 60613, USA
Irving Park Road bar with a back room that's free to reserve. There's a 15-person minimum and it holds about 20 comfortably, though they regularly host groups of 30 to 50 using it as a home base. The latest start time is 8:30pm, so it works best for an earlier birthday.

The Owl
2521 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647, USA
Logan Square bar where reserving regular tables costs nothing and carries no minimum. The private back room needs at least 30 people and either a $50 or $60 open bar for three hours or a $1,000 cash-bar minimum. No kitchen, so bring food. DJs start at 10pm on weekends, so book earlier if you want to talk.

aliveOne
2683 N Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60614, USA
Lincoln Park bar that reserves regular tables with no fee and no minimum. For a bigger birthday, the back room has its own bar, with a 30-person minimum and either a $50 or $60 open bar for three hours or a $1,000 cash-bar minimum. Bring or order in food, and you can stay after the party wraps.

Midwest Coast Brewing Company
2137 W Walnut St, Chicago, IL 60612, USA
Brewery near the United Center with no minimum spend for groups of 20 or fewer, and outside food is welcome since there's no kitchen. Everyone can run their own tab. There's also a private room for 40. Beer, cider and seltzer, not a cocktail bar.
Best Cocktail Bars in Chicago for Large Groups
For this kind of night, prioritize a reserved section and the quality of the setting over finding the largest possible room.

Sparrow
12 W Elm St, Chicago, IL 60610, USA
Gold Coast cocktail bar with an Art Deco room, for a group that wants proper drinks rather than a beer hall. Group sections are booked through its private events team, so reach out ahead and ask about deposits and food. Not a walk-in for 20.

Three Dots and a Dash
435 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60654, USA
River North tiki bar down an alley, built for celebrations. Semi-private areas hold 16, 30 or 60, and the bar package is $60 a person for two hours, covering drinks $20 and under with no shots. Book it as a planned night. Thirty people wandering in won't work.

The Dandy Crown
694 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60642, USA
River West cocktail bar with a fireplace lounge downstairs and a second floor with another full bar and a rooftop deck. It books semi-private and private events from 10 to 150, so a group of 10 to 30 can get a section without buying out the place. Dog-friendly patio.
Best Breweries, Beer Gardens and Beer Bars in Chicago for Large Groups
The beer-focused choices, from informal shared taprooms to separate rooms. Don't assume a big brewery holds tables without a reservation: several don't take regular reservations at all and send groups through an event form instead.

Guinness Open Gate Brewery – West Loop
901 W Kinzie St, Chicago, IL 60607, USA
Big brewery and restaurant in the Fulton River District. Groups of 18 or fewer book a normal reservation, and 19 or more use the large-group form. Walk-ins are taken all day. A safe pick for 10 to 30 who want beer and a real menu.

Pilot Project Brewing - Logan Square
2140 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647, USA
Logan Square brewery with one of the clearest large-group policies around. Up to 20 book normally, and 21 to 60 can reserve a section of the taproom or patio up to 60 days ahead. A card holds the booking, cancelling within 48 hours costs $100, and 20% gratuity goes on every check.

Revolution Brewing - Brewery & Taproom
3340 N Kedzie Ave, Chicago, IL 60618, USA
Revolution's brewery taproom in Avondale holds 270 at 10-person tables. About ten can usually walk in, and for 20 or more, email ahead. You can bring food in. Make sure the invite says Kedzie, since the old Milwaukee Avenue brewpub closed in 2024. Closed Monday and Tuesday.

Begyle Brewing
1800 W Cuyler Ave, Chicago, IL 60613, USA
Ravenswood brewery with a laid-back taproom that takes group reservations. It's a shared public room, not a private party space, so it fits a relaxed birthday rather than one with speeches. Ask about current terms when you book.

Dovetail Brewery
1800 W Belle Plaine Ave, Chicago, IL 60613, USA
Ravenswood brewery pouring traditional European-style beers, with a roomy taproom and an upstairs Barrel Loft. For a casual group, the taproom is the easy option. If you want a private party, ask first whether they're currently booking private events.

Half Acre Beer Co
2050 W Balmoral Ave, Chicago, IL 60625, USA
Half Acre's big taproom and beer garden in Bowmanville, with a full kitchen. It doesn't take regular reservations, so groups of 10 or more go through the event form, with options up to about 40. The Western Patio isn't available on Saturdays, and the garden closes in bad weather. Kids welcome with an adult.

Beermiscuous
2812 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL 60657, USA
Lakeview craft beer cafe with two bookable spaces: the Cellar holds 30 for $100 and the back cafe holds 40 for $200, each for three hours. Both payments are deposits that go toward the host tab, and 20% gratuity is added to that tab. Bigger setups for 50 or 60 are available.

Off Color Brewing Taproom The Mousetrap
1460 N Kingsbury St, Chicago, IL 60642, USA
Off Color's taproom by the river, with patios and no kitchen, so bring or order in food. They don't take reservations, though they can sometimes hold space Monday to Wednesday. Weekends are first come, first served, so it's best for 10 to 15 on an off-peak day.

Marz Community Brewing Company
3630 S Iron St, Chicago, IL 60609, USA
Marz's taproom in McKinley Park, a South Side alternative to the usual North Side brewery run, with trivia, bingo and game nights. There are no regular reservations, so groups of 10 or more book through its Host an Event form. Life on Marz in Logan Square is a separate place.
Best Bars for Work Groups and After-Work Drinks Downtown
For an office gathering, start with the payment arrangement: one company tab, individual purchases, or a package. That decision narrows the room.

Franklin Tap
325 S Franklin St, Chicago, IL 60606, USA
Loop beer bar with food and no minimum spend for groups under 25. For casual, non-company get-togethers there's a cash-bar option so everyone pays their own way. Bigger groups, up to 150, book through the events team.

D4 Irish Pub & Cafe
345 East Ohio Street, Entrance on, E Grand Ave, Chicago, IL 60611, USA
Streeterville pub with a Library Lounge that seats 25, for a group that wants to sit down and eat. There's no room rental fee, though there may be a food and drink minimum. Packages need 20 or more, and smaller groups order from the regular menu.

Timothy O'Toole's Pub Chicago
622 N Fairbanks Ct, Chicago, IL 60611, USA
Big Streeterville sports pub two blocks off Michigan Avenue, used for office parties and game watches. Larger groups book through the events team. For a game, ask about screens and sound when you book.
Best Chicago Bars With Games for Large Groups
Choose a timed activity when you want everyone playing together, and an arcade when the group would rather drift between games and conversation. For an arcade night without a minimum tab, Emporium's free tables (above) are the alternative.

Flight Club Chicago
111 W Wacker Dr, Chicago, IL 60601, USA
Social darts in the Loop, an easy way to get a mixed group playing together. Book online for up to 12, and 13 or more go through the events team. 21 and over after 6pm, and all day Saturday.

SPIN Chicago
344 N State St, Chicago, IL 60654, USA
Ping-pong bar in River North. Weekend packages for 4 to 20 include two hours of play, food and your own section, with beer and wine from $50 a person, and they open 30 days ahead. Larger parties go through the events team.

Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club
1750 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647, USA
Huge shuffleboard club in Bucktown with food trucks and a rooftop. Parties scale by size, so 21 to 30 guests get two courts and two cabanas. Courts are $50 an hour each, and drinks are a separate per-person hourly package, from $20 for beer and wine. 21 and over.

Headquarters Beercade
213 W Institute Pl, Chicago, IL 60610, USA
Two floors of free vintage arcade games in River North. The Window Lounge holds up to 65 with seating for about 18, so it suits 20 to 50 who'd rather circulate than sit. Food and drink packages are available, and 18% gratuity is added for parties of three or more.
Best Rooftop and Outdoor Bars in Chicago for Large Groups
Choose the outdoor space because it improves the party, but make the weather plan part of the booking.

Recess
838 W Kinzie St, Chicago, IL 60642, USA
River West bar with one of the biggest patios in the city, frozen drinks, games and a party crowd. Groups of 11 or more book through its private events option instead of grabbing separate tables. City Hall next door is a different venue.

Park & Field
3509 W Fullerton Ave, Chicago, IL 60647, USA
Logan Square bar with a huge patio, bocce, fire pits and about 200 seats. Several areas suit groups of 20 or more, so ask which space fits and what the food and drink terms are. Good for an afternoon that turns into an evening.

Central Park Bar
2924 N Central Park Ave, Chicago, IL 60618, USA
Avondale bar with a heated, enclosed outdoor bar in winter. Two high-tops there are a free home base with no reservation needed. A semi-private section takes a $1,000 bar minimum or 20 drink-package wristbands, and the fully private enclosure is for 50 or more. Half-price happy hour weekdays 4 to 7.

Offshore Rooftop
1000 E Grand Ave, Chicago, IL 60611, USA
Huge rooftop at the end of Navy Pier with lake and skyline views and a kitchen. Groups of 14 or more go through private dining, so plan it ahead. Check availability before sending everyone out, since private events sometimes close it.
Best Wrigleyville Bars for Large Groups
Wrigleyville has some of the biggest rooms on the North Side, but game days change everything: bars fill up, and some won't book private events when the Cubs are home. Plan around the schedule and expect a younger crowd. Sheffield's, in the first section, is a few blocks south.

Sluggers World Class Sports Bar and Grill & Dueling Pianos
3540 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60657, USA
Wrigleyville bar with batting cages, arcade games and dueling pianos, plus five party rooms. Parties start at 25, with two-hour packages before and after Cubs games and three-hour ones otherwise. Expect a young, rowdy crowd on game days.

Old Crow Smokehouse - Wrigleyville
3506 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60657, USA
Barbecue bar on Clark with a rooftop for 120 and a North Room with a retractable roof for up to 400. Private events need a deposit of about half the minimum, and they don't book events on Cubs home game or concert days.

Small Cheval
1119 W Waveland Ave, Chicago, IL 60613, USA
Burger bar steps from Wrigley with semi-private and private spaces for 12 to 200. Minimums depend on the day and time, and you need to book at least 72 hours ahead. Sheffield's, a few blocks south, is the other big-group option nearby.
What to Know Before Bringing a Large Group to a Chicago Bar
Ask for a gathering area before asking for a private event. Say whether you need a few tables, a semi-private section or a closed room. At aliveOne and The Owl, for example, non-private seating has no fee or minimum, while private parties come with a headcount guarantee and a package or spend.
Give a realistic attendance range. “Twenty expected, possibly thirty, arriving between 7 and 8” is more useful than “birthday party.” Decide whether the host can cover a minimum if fewer people come.
Separate a room fee from a minimum spend. A bar can charge no rental fee and still require the group to spend an agreed amount on food and drinks. Haymarket and Pilot Project both work this way, and at Haymarket a shortfall is billed as a room fee. Ask what counts toward the minimum and what gets added afterward.
Decide who's paying before you book. Individual tabs, a host tab with a cap, wristbands or a package. Wristband parties are common in Chicago: at Lincoln Tap Room they start at $20 a person for two hours, while Easy Bar, The Owl and aliveOne run $50 or $60 open bars for three hours with a 30-person minimum. Don't assume the bar can split one big bill into twenty payments at the end.
Be specific about seats, food and accessibility. “Holds thirty” might mean standing room, not thirty chairs. Say whether everyone needs a seat, whether you're bringing food, and whether anyone needs step-free access.
Give the invitation an accurate start time. A table hold isn't always protected all night. Emporium can cancel a free reservation when the group is more than ten minutes late, so someone should arrive on time to claim the space.
Check the calendar. Cubs home games, concerts and December weekends fill bars fast, and Old Crow Smokehouse won't book private events on Cubs home game or concert days.
