Philadelphia's best holiday shopping is spread across neighborhoods, which is part of the fun. East Passyunk is the best single street for a mixed list, Old City is the place for local art and design, and Reading Terminal Market and Di Bruno Bros. handle the food gifts.
Pick one area and give it an afternoon rather than crossing the city for a single errand. This guide covers independent gift shops, bookstores, food stops, fashion and the suburban trips worth making. For the full market calendar, see our guide to Philadelphia's Christmas markets. One tip: most clothing is exempt from Pennsylvania sales tax, while most other goods in Philadelphia are taxed at 8%. Updated November 2026.

Holiday Markets Worth Shopping
These four are the markets where the shopping itself justifies the trip. Our Philadelphia Christmas markets guide has the full list.

Christmas Village
1500 Arch St, Philadelphia, PA 19102
Go for the atmosphere as much as the gifts: wooden stalls, ornaments and more than 120 vendors around LOVE Park and City Hall. Vendors are a mix of local and international, so don't assume everything was made here. Details: Nov. 21–22, then Nov. 26–Dec. 27, closed Dec. 25. Sun–Thu noon–8 p.m., Fri–Sat noon–9 p.m.; Thanksgiving 9 a.m.–5 p.m., Christmas Eve noon–5 p.m. Free entry. 1500 Arch St.

Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market
1 S 15th St, Philadelphia, PA 19102, USA
This is the better of the two City Hall markets for local gifts, with handcrafted goods from area designers, artisans and jewelers. It's a short walk from Christmas Village, so do both. Details: Nov. 13–Jan. 1, closed Dec. 25. Sun–Thu noon–8 p.m., Fri–Sat noon–9 p.m.; closes 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Dilworth Park, 1 S 15th St.

Holiday Art Star Craft Bazaar
1001 N Delaware Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19125, USA
Eighty curated craft vendors in one room make this the most efficient handmade-gift stop of the season. It falls on Thanksgiving weekend, so you can finish a good chunk of your list early. Details: Nov. 28–29, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. $3 until 4 p.m., free the last hour, 12 and under free. Free parking. Rivers Casino Event Center, 1001 N Delaware Ave; use the north entrance and take the elevators to the second floor.

Punk Rock Flea Market
22 S 23rd St, Philadelphia, PA 19103, USA
Bring a flexible list. Records, vintage clothing, art and video games fill the 23rd Street Armory, and it's a far better bet than a mall for the person who hates normal presents. Details: Dec. 11–13. Fri 4–10 p.m., Sat–Sun 10 a.m.–5 p.m. One admission covers all three days, and 12 and under are free with a paying adult. 22 S 23rd St.

Details: Daily 11 a.m.–4 p.m., so go early. Independence Visitor Center, 599 Market St. The holiday bazaar is a separate event at Rivers Casino.

Museum for Art in Wood Store
141 N 3rd St, Philadelphia, PA 19106, USA

Shane Confectionery
110 Market St, Philadelphia, PA 19106, USA

South Street Art Mart
530 S 4th St, Philadelphia, PA 19147, USA
The artist-run shop is for the friend whose taste is funny, strange or very specific. Prints, stickers, pins and zines make it especially useful on a small budget. Details: Check the shop's site for hours. 530 S 4th St, not South Street itself.

Moon + Arrow
742 S 4th St, Philadelphia, PA 19147, USA

YOWIE
226 South St, Philadelphia, PA 19147, USA
YOWIE is for the friend with strong opinions about a mug. Ceramics, glassware, objects and jewelry come from independent designers, and you don't need to be staying at the hotel to shop. Details: Tue–Sun 10 a.m.–6 p.m., closed Mondays, and it sometimes closes for holidays. 226 South St.

Head House Books

East Passyunk and Italian Market Shops
East Passyunk Avenue is the best single street in the city for a mixed gift list, with five good shops within about four blocks. Start at South Fellini and walk south, then treat the Italian Market on Ninth Street as a separate stop for cooks and food gifts.

Occasionette
1704 Passyunk Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19148, USA

South Fellini

Fante's Kitchen Shop
1006 S 9th St, Philadelphia, PA 19147, USA

Center City and Rittenhouse Shops
Center City is best for practical errands, food gifts and fashion. Do the stores before the markets, since several close by early evening.

Reading Terminal Market
51 N 12th St, Philadelphia, PA 19107
This is the best rain-proof food-gift stop downtown. Pennsylvania General Store is the place to begin, with PA-made sweets, hand-dipped chocolate pretzels, preserves and gift baskets. Details: Daily 8 a.m.–6 p.m., though merchants set their own hours. 51 N 12th St.

Duross & Langel

The Shops at Liberty Place
1625 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19103, USA

Neighborhood and Suburban Shopping Trips
These are worth building a trip around, but they don't connect easily to each other, so pick one rather than chaining them together. The last four are outside the city and need their own day.

VIX Emporium
5009 Baltimore Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19143, USA
This is the shop that makes a West Philly trip worthwhile. Jewelry, ceramics, art prints and paper goods come from independent makers, mostly in the Philadelphia region. Details: Tue–Fri 11 a.m.–7 p.m., Sat 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Sun noon–4 p.m., closed Mondays. 5009 Baltimore Ave.

The Little Apple
4361 Main St, Philadelphia, PA 19127, USA

Kilian Hardware
8450 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19118, USA

King of Prussia
160 N Gulph Rd, King of Prussia, PA 19406, USA

Peddler's Village
100 Peddlers Village, Lahaska, PA 18931, USA

Philadelphia Premium Outlets
18 Lightcap Rd, Pottstown, PA 19464, USA
Despite the name, this is out in Pottstown, so go only if you know which brands you want. It's an outdoor center, which makes it a very different bad-weather plan from King of Prussia. Details: 10 a.m.–9 p.m. most days Dec. 14–23; 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Christmas Eve. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day; Black Friday 6 a.m.–9 p.m. 18 W Lightcap Rd, Pottstown.
Three Philadelphia Shopping Routes
Pick one and leave time for a meal.
The first-timer's holiday day. Start at Reading Terminal Market for food gifts, add the SEPTA Store on Market Street, then head west to Made in Philadelphia and Christmas Village. Both markets open at noon and are open together Nov. 21–22 and Nov. 26–Dec. 27, except Dec. 25.
The Old City loop. Start at Art Star, which closes at 4 p.m., then walk to the Museum for Art in Wood. Head down Third Street to Philadelphia Independents and OMOI, and finish at Shane Confectionery. Go Wednesday through Sunday, when the museum store is open.
The East Passyunk walk. Start with South Fellini at 1507, then work south past Occasionette at 1704, Nice Things at 1731 and Good Buy Supply at 1737. Finish at Tildie's at 1829. Late in the week is safest, since South Fellini's posted hours run Wednesday through Sunday.
