Christmas Village is staying open past Christmas for the first time this year, with two extra days on December 26–27. It's still the market to start with, but Philadelphia's holiday season goes well beyond LOVE Park, and our Christmas bars guide covers where to drink once the stalls close.
This guide covers the big City Hall markets, the one-day maker fairs worth planning around, two winter villages and the best day trips, from Peddler's Village to Bethlehem. Many of the smaller markets run for just a day or a weekend, so the dates matter.

Christmas Markets in Philadelphia
Start with the two big markets at City Hall, which sit a short walk apart. After that, the maker and neighborhood markets are in date order, since most run for just a day or a weekend. The last three are for a night out: Cherry Street Pier's one-night art market, then RiverRink and Franklin Square, which are for skating and lights, not gift shopping (our Philadelphia ice skating guide and Christmas lights guide cover both in full).

Christmas Village in Philadelphia
1500 John F Kennedy Blvd, Philadelphia, PA 19102, USA
This is the one most people picture: wooden stalls, ornaments, something hot in your hand and City Hall lit up behind it all. More than 120 vendors spread across LOVE Park and City Hall, with German food, a towering Christmas pyramid, a Ferris wheel and a double-decker carousel. Weeknights are much better for browsing. Come on a weekend night if you're after the crowd. German American Weekend is December 5–6, and Family Weekend is December 12–13. Details: Preview November 21–22; open November 26–December 27. Closed November 23–25 and December 25. Sunday–Thursday noon–8 p.m.; Friday–Saturday noon–9 p.m. Thanksgiving 9 a.m.–5 p.m.; Christmas Eve noon–5 p.m. Free entry.

Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market
1 S 15th St, Philadelphia, PA 19102, USA
If the gifts matter more than the scenery, start here. More than 40 makers from Philadelphia and the surrounding region sell art, jewelry, home goods and food from white booths at Dilworth Park, on the west side of City Hall. It opens more than a week before Christmas Village and stays open through New Year's Day, and the ice rink is right there if you want to make a night of it. Details: November 13–January 1. Closed December 25. Sunday–Thursday noon–8 p.m.; Friday–Saturday noon–9 p.m. Christmas Eve until 5 p.m. Free entry.

Miracle on American Street
1800 N American St, Philadelphia, PA 19122, USA
NextFab's makerspace turns into a holiday market for one Saturday, with more than 80 local vendors selling jewelry, clothing, home goods and food. The new Maker Magic zone adds live demos and make-and-take projects, and the shops and studios in the same building are worth a look too. Details: Saturday, November 21, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.

Holiday Art Star Craft Bazaar
1001 N Delaware Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19125, USA
Art Star brings 80 handmade vendors indoors at Rivers Casino, which makes it the best bad-weather market in the city. You'll find ceramics, prints, jewelry and plenty of small-batch gifts, plus make-and-take projects and breakfast and lunch from Cedar Point. Come for the last hour if you want to get in free and you're only after one or two things. Details: November 28–29, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. $3; free from 4–5 p.m. Kids 12 and under free. Free parking. Use the North Entrance and take the elevators to the second floor.

Handmade Holidays at Bartram's Garden
5400 Lindbergh Blvd., Philadelphia, PA 19143, USA
This is a short, neighborly market at North America's oldest botanical garden, with local artists and makers set up for a few hours on a Saturday. It's small enough to do in an hour and a nice change from the Center City crowds. Dress for the weather, since it runs rain or shine. Details: Saturday, December 5, noon–3 p.m. Free entry.

Latvian Society Winter Holiday Market
531 N 7th St, Philadelphia, PA 19123, USA
The Latvian Society has been running this market since the 1960s, and it still feels like a community party. Come for handmade crafts, Latvian baking and a drink in the society's retro pub. The raffle's drawn at 4:30 p.m., and a social evening with live music from The Lugers follows the market. Details: Saturday, December 5, noon–5 p.m.

Lucia & Christmas Market
1900 Pattison Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19145, USA
The American Swedish Historical Museum sets up a heated tent for Swedish deli favorites, baked goods, decorations and gifts, then holds Lucia performances in the Grand Hall. Plan your visit around one of the two shows and shop before or after. If you want the deli items, order forms are due by December 2. Details: December 5–6, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Lucia performances at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. $10 Saturday and $12 Sunday; members $8; ages 5–12 $5; under 5 free.

Punk Rock Flea Market
22 S 23rd St, Philadelphia, PA 19103, USA
Not every good gift comes from a wooden stall. The holiday edition fills the 23rd Street Armory with records, vintage clothing, art, crafts and old punk junk, and it's the best place on this list to shop for someone who's hard to shop for. Friday is the night market. One admission gets you in all three days. Details: December 11–13. Friday 4–10 p.m.; Saturday–Sunday 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Kids 12 and under free with a paying adult.

St. Eric's Fair at Old Swedes' Church
916 S Swanson St, Philadelphia, PA 19147, USA
This Scandinavian Christmas bazaar runs alongside the 89th Lucia Fest at Gloria Dei, a church built by Swedish settlers more than 300 years ago. You'll find imported goods, food and drink, with the candlelit pageant as the main event. It's a different event from the museum market a week earlier, so you can do both. Details: December 12–13. Lucia Fest performances are ticketed.

Artist & Artisans Market at Cherry Street Pier
121 N Christopher Columbus Blvd, Philadelphia, PA 19106, USA
A one-night art market by the river, with local creative work in a covered pier a short walk from RiverRink. Pair the two for an easy waterfront evening. Details: Friday, December 4, 4–9 p.m. Free entry.

Independence Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest
101 S Christopher Columbus Blvd, Philadelphia, PA 19106, USA
The rink is the draw, but the cabins, firepits, food and river views keep people around long after they've taken off their skates. It's free to walk in, so it works for a group where only half of you want to skate. The holiday tree lighting is Sunday, November 29, at 6 p.m. Reserve skating or a cabin ahead if your plans depend on it. Details: November 27–February 28. Monday–Thursday 1–11 p.m.; Friday 1 p.m.–1 a.m.; Saturday 11 a.m.–1 a.m.; Sunday 11 a.m.–11 p.m. Open 11 a.m.–1 a.m. daily December 19–January 2, except December 24–25 (1–8:30 p.m.) and New Year's Eve (10 a.m.–2 p.m.). Free entry; skating, rentals, games and food cost extra.

Holidays in Franklin Square
200 N 6th St, Philadelphia, PA 19106, USA
Franklin Square is the easy pick if you've got kids who've had enough of shopping. The free Electrical Spectacle light show runs every 30 minutes from 5 p.m., and mini golf, Frosty's Fireside Lodge and other paid extras fill out the evening. It's a good stop after an afternoon in Center City or Old City. Details: November 19–January 3. Closed Thanksgiving, December 25 and January 1. 10 a.m.–9 p.m.; closes at 8 p.m. December 24 and 31. Free entry; activities and food cost extra.

Christmas Market Day Trips From Philadelphia
Pick one area for the day. Most of these are a drive from Center City, and they don't combine well in a single afternoon.

Peddler's Village
100 Peddlers Village, Lahaska, PA 18931, USA
This isn't a pop-up market. It's a year-round village of 60-plus shops that goes all out for the holidays, with a million lights and a gingerbread display of more than 100 entries. Get there in daylight, shop, have dinner and stay for the lights after dark. Go on a weekday if you can, since gingerbread lines get long on weekends. Grand Illumination is Friday, November 20, at 6:15 p.m. Details: Lights November 20–January 18. Gingerbread display November 20–January 9. November 23–December 30, shops open Monday–Saturday 10 a.m.–9 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.–7 p.m. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day; closes at 4 p.m. December 24 and 31. Free entry and parking.

Kennett Square Holiday Village Market
401 Birch St, Kennett Square, PA 19348, USA
The Creamery hosts this artisan market over the first two weekends of December, with food, drinks and family activities between the vendor stalls. The lineup changes, so a second weekend won't feel like a repeat. Skip the Creamery lot, which is saved for accessible parking and drop-offs. Park in the free Linden Street garage and take the free shuttle. Details: December 5–6 and 12–13, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Free entry.

Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem
711 E 1st St, Bethlehem, PA 18015, USA
This is the one to drive for. It's a big German-inspired market on the SteelStacks campus, with rows of artisan vendors, seasonal food and the old steel furnaces as a backdrop. It's only open on select days, so check your date before you go. Friday admission is free from 5–8 p.m., and it's cashless at the gate and for ArtsQuest food and drinks. Details: November 13–15, 20–22 and 27–29; December 3–6, 10–13 and 17–20. Thursday and Sunday 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 10 a.m.–8 p.m. $14 Thursday–Friday; $16.50 Saturday–Sunday. Ages 5 and under free. Free parking.

Christmas City Village
564 Main St, Bethlehem, PA 18018, USA
Across the river in the historic district, these free wooden huts fill the Sun Inn Courtyard on weekends. It's much smaller than Christkindlmarkt, and that's the appeal: browse for a bit, then wander Main Street and find dinner. The two work well as one Bethlehem day, but you'll need to drive between them. Details: Fridays–Sundays, November 20–December 20, 11 a.m.–7 p.m. Free entry.
West Chester Christkindlmarkt
W Gay St & N Church St, West Chester, PA 19380, USA
For one Saturday, more than 100 local and handmade vendors take over downtown West Chester, with streets closed to cars. The nice part is what's around it: you can shop, then walk straight to lunch, coffee or an early dinner. Plan on $20 to park in the borough garages and lots that day. Details: Saturday, December 12, 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Free entry. Gay Street from Darlington to Matlack, and Church Street from Chestnut to Courthouse Alley.

MainLineFreunde German Christmas Market
400 Franklin Ave, Phoenixville, PA 19460, USA
Despite the name, this one's in Phoenixville. It's a compact German market with artisans, warm food and drinks, music and kids' crafts, and it's an easy way to start the season before Thanksgiving. Details: Saturday, November 21, noon–6 p.m. $5 ages 21 and over; under 21 free. Free parking.

Historic Trappe Weihnachtsmarkt
201 W Main St, Collegeville, PA 19426, USA
This small market is all about Pennsylvania German craft: redware, ornaments, feather trees and springerle cookies. Go on the Saturday of Candlelight Tours, December 5, when the market stays open until 9 p.m. and the free tours run from 3–9 p.m. (they also run Sunday, December 6, from noon–4 p.m.). Details: November 27–29 and December 4–6. Friday–Saturday 10 a.m.–4 p.m.; Sunday noon–4 p.m.; December 5 until 9 p.m. In the Education Center behind the Muhlenberg House.

Oaks Christmas Market
100 Station Ave, Oaks, PA 19456, USA
This is the practical one. More than 100 crafters and vendors fill a hall at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, with free admission and free parking. It won't win any prizes for atmosphere, but it's a good call for a focused shopping trip or a wet weekend. Sunday's an early finish. Details: December 5–6. Saturday 9 a.m.–6 p.m.; Sunday 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Free entry and parking. Hall C.
Planning Tips
- Take transit to City Hall. Regional Rail to Suburban Station and the subway or trolley to 15th Street or City Hall all put you steps from both markets.
- Go early or midweek. Christmas Village is much easier to shop on a weekday. Save weekend nights for the lights and the crowd.
- Check the days, not just the dates. Bethlehem, Kennett Square and Trappe aren't open every day between their first and last dates.
One day at City Hall: Start at Made in Philadelphia with your gift list, then cross over to Christmas Village as it gets dark. Have a real dinner nearby, and add skating at Dilworth Park if your group actually wants to skate (see our ice skating guide for prices and Christmas hours).
One day in Bethlehem: The two markets overlap Fridays through Sundays from November 20 to December 20. Spend the day at Christkindlmarkt, then head to the Sun Inn Courtyard before the huts close at 7 p.m. On a Friday, flip it: do downtown first, then get into SteelStacks free from 5–8 p.m.
