The best fish and chips in London aren't all in the West End. Some of the city's best plates come from a cash-only counter in Leyton, a wood-paneled dining room in Muswell Hill and a takeaway on Brockley Road. It's worth knowing which kind of meal you want before you pick one.

For a classic sit-down plate, start with Golden Hind or The Seashell. Go to Toff's if you're happy to travel for it, and to Michael's, Ken's or Brockley's Rock if you'd rather eat out of the paper. Use the map to find what's closest to you.
