London's best late-night meal might be a salt beef beigel on Brick Lane, roast duck near Leicester Square at 3am, or a full English ordered at an hour when calling it breakfast feels optimistic. The food is out there. The catch is the calendar.

Plenty of places that run until 4am on a Saturday are shut by 11pm on a Tuesday, so we've sorted this guide by the question that actually matters: is it open tonight? Start with the places that never close, then the ones that stay late all week, then the Thursday-to-Saturday crowd.

All 25 Late-Night Spots in London at a Glance

A note on hours: "Food until" and "last orders" are kitchen cutoffs. "Open until" is closing time, so get there earlier. Early hours count with the night before, so a Friday 3am close means 3am on Saturday morning.

24-Hour Food in London

Four places that don't close, from a bagel counter to a dining room 40 floors up. Any of them will feed you at 4am on a Tuesday, though VQ Chelsea switches to takeout on some nights.

Beigel Bake

Beigel Bake

159 Brick Ln, London E1 6SB, UK

Few things make more sense at the end of a night than a warm beigel stuffed with salt beef, mustard and a gherkin. This white-fronted Brick Lane bakery has been at it around the clock for decades, so it works whether you're leaving a club or up before sunrise. There's nowhere to sit. Order, collect and let the beigel be the event. Details: 159 Brick Lane. Open 24 hours, seven days a week. Get the salt beef, or smoked salmon and cream cheese if you want something lighter.

Duck & Waffle

Duck & Waffle

110 Bishopsgate, London EC2N 4AY, UK

The answer when you want more than something wrapped in paper. It's on the 40th floor of 110 Bishopsgate and never closes, so you can have dinner at 3am with the whole city lit up below you. The signature duck and waffle stays on the late menu alongside duck katsu, grilled cheese and a burger. Book it, because an unusual hour doesn't guarantee a table. Details: 110 Bishopsgate, 40th floor. Open 24/7, with the late-night menu running midnight–5:30am. Smart-casual dress code and card only.

Polo Bar

Polo Bar

176 Bishopsgate, London EC2M 4NQ, UK

A 24-hour café right across from Liverpool Street station, serving British food since 1953. Breakfast is the point here: eggs, bacon, pancakes and the kind of plate that makes a long night feel manageable. It's the plainer alternative to Duck & Waffle, just up Bishopsgate, and you can book a table at any hour, which helps if your group has grown since midnight. Details: 176 Bishopsgate. Open 24 hours, except Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Some late bookings take a deposit.

VQ Chelsea

VQ Chelsea

325 Fulham Rd., London SW10 9QL, UK

Full English, burgers and pancakes on Fulham Road at any hour, with 30 years of practice at feeding people who've lost track of time. There's one catch. From 1am to 7am on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings, the dining room shuts and it's takeout and delivery only, so Monday through Wednesday nights you'll be eating on the sidewalk. Details: 325 Fulham Road. Open 24 hours, takeout only 1–7am Tuesday–Thursday. Valid ID required 11pm–6am. Night menu prices apply 11pm–7am, there's a £2.50 cover midnight–6am Friday and Saturday, and alcohol comes with a meal only.

Late-Night Food in London Every Night of the Week

These are the ones to know on a Sunday or Monday, when most of central London has gone to bed. A couple close earlier on Sundays, and the card says so. If you want a game on with your food, our London NFL bars guide covers where to watch.

Café Helen

Café Helen

105A Edgware Rd, Tyburnia, London W2 2HX, UK

The red sign on Edgware Road is still glowing when nearly everything else has gone dark. It's a Lebanese institution for shawarma platters, warm flatbread and labneh, with plenty of seats, shisha outside and a takeout shop next door. It runs to 5am even on a Monday, so it's still serving two hours after Ranoush down the road has closed. Details: 105A Edgware Road. Open until 5am, 6am Friday and Saturday.

Chop Chop

Chop Chop

Hippodrome, Cranbourn Street, London WC2H 7JH, UK

One of the best places in central London to eat a real dinner deep into the night. Chop Chop sits on the lower level of the Hippodrome Casino, and the Four Seasons here is the Chinatown roast duck specialist, not the hotel. Put the duck in the middle of the table and build around it with dim sum. You don't have to gamble, but you do have to bring ID. Details: The Hippodrome, Cranbourn Street. Open 6pm–4am daily, with last orders at 3am for walk-ins and 3:30am with a booking. 18+ with physical photo ID.

Bar Italia

Bar Italia

22 Frith St, London W1D 4RF, UK

On Frith Street since 1949, and still the place Soho ends up. Pulp named a song after it, the neon sign hasn't changed, and the espresso still comes off a Gaggia at the counter. Come for a coffee, a toasted panino and a cannoli while the night winds down. It's not where we'd send you for a full pasta dinner at 3am. Details: 22 Frith Street. Open 7am–4am daily. No bookings.

Old Town 97

Old Town 97

19 Wardour St, London W1D 6PL, UK

Chinatown's dependable late option, in a converted townhouse that turns tables fast. The Cantonese menu is long, but go for the stir-fried duck in black bean sauce or fried udon with shredded duck. It's good for big groups, and it keeps the same hours all week, so it works just as well on a Sunday as a Saturday. It's a canteen, not a date. Details: 19 Wardour Street. Open until 3:30am daily.

Ranoush Juice

Ranoush Juice

43 Edgware Rd, Tyburnia, London W2 2JE, UK

The other Edgware Road address worth knowing, and the easy one. Walk in, order a chicken or lamb shawarma and a fresh juice, and you're done. It takes no reservations, which suits one or two people who just want to eat without turning it into an evening. Details: 43 Edgware Road. Open until 3am daily. Walk-ins only.

MEATliquor W1

MEATliquor W1

37-38 Margaret St, London W1G 0JF, UK

The closest thing central London has to a sure thing. The kitchen runs until 2:30am every single day, including the nights when feeding yourself near Oxford Circus gets surprisingly hard. Expect burgers, fried chicken, loud music and disco balls. There are plant-based burgers too, so it works for a mixed group. Details: 37–38 Margaret Street. Food until 2:30am daily, bar until 3am.

Lanzhou Lamian Noodle Bar

Lanzhou Lamian Noodle Bar

33 Cranbourn St, London WC2H 7AD, UK

Cheap, fast, hand-pulled noodles a couple of minutes from Leicester Square, made where you can watch. The room is basic and nobody's lingering, which is the appeal when all you want is a big bowl of noodles at 2am. Get the beef brisket or roast pork noodle soup, and expect a short line. Details: 33 Cranbourn Street. Open until 5am Friday and Saturday, 2am Monday–Thursday and 10pm Sunday.

The Munch

The Munch

148 Shoreditch High St, London E1 6JE, UK

The sit-down option on Shoreditch High Street, and a big step up from the usual kebab counter. Order a doner or chicken shish, then head upstairs to eat it at a table with bread, hummus and cacik. It's a good stop when you're coming out of a Shoreditch bar and aren't ready for the Brick Lane queue. Details: 148 Shoreditch High Street. Open until 4am Friday and Saturday, 2am other nights.

Nan Hotpot

Nan Hotpot

1 Leicester Pl, London WC2H 7BP, UK

Hot pot makes a great late meal when nobody's ready to go home. Everyone has a job: pick ingredients, work on a dipping sauce, keep adding to the broth. Nan is just off Leicester Square, and the set menu is the move once the group runs out of decisions, with beef, prawns, mushrooms and noodles plus unlimited trips to the sauce station. Details: 1 Leicester Place. Last orders 2am and open until 3am Monday–Saturday. Closes 11pm Sunday. Book for a group, and don't aim to arrive at last orders.

Gökyüzü Green Lanes

Gökyüzü Green Lanes

26-28 Grand Parade, Green Lanes, Harringay Ladder, London N4 1LG, UK

For when "a little something to eat" has turned into a table-wide hunger problem. The original Gökyüzü opened on Green Lanes in 1999, and the grill is still going hard at midnight. Start with meze and fresh bread, then order mixed grills for the table. It's best when the group wants to sit together and eat properly. Details: 26–28 Grand Parade, Green Lanes. Open until 2am daily. Book for a bigger group.

Lebo Lebanese Grill

Lebo Lebanese Grill

173 New Kent Rd, London SE1 4AG, UK

The pick when you're properly hungry and done making decisions. The boneless grilled chicken is the reason for the line, with chips, spicy rice and plenty of sauce turning it into a huge box of food. There's no dining room, so plan on eating it standing up. It's one of the best-value late meals in the city. Details: 173 New Kent Road. Open until 2am daily. Takeout only. Bring cash just in case.

BLOODsports

BLOODsports

27-29 Endell St, London WC2H 9BA, UK

For the group that still has energy. This Covent Garden sports bar has more than 30 screens, pool, darts and pinball, and the kitchen serves MEATliquor favorites like Dead Hippie burgers, Monkey Fingers, Chicago dogs and fried pickles. It's one of the easiest places to take a group after a show, as long as nobody wants a quiet supper. Details: 27–29 Endell Street. Food until 1:30am daily, bar until 2am.

Late-Night Food in London, Thursday to Saturday

These places run late when the city does, so check the day before you go. Several of them are done by 11pm on a Monday, and a couple only stay late on Friday and Saturday.

Noodle & Beer Chinatown

Noodle & Beer Chinatown

27 Wardour St, London W1D 6PR, UK

The place to keep in mind when your appetite has moved past chips and toward something with heat. Blanket noodles in chili oil are the order, and the red basement is the room you want at 1am. It's a tight 42 seats over two floors, which suits a solo meal or two people who aren't done with the night. It describes itself as halal, too. Details: 27 Wardour Street. Open until 4am Thursday–Saturday, 11pm Sunday–Wednesday. Online booking is for two people only; bigger groups walk in.

Balans Soho No.60

Balans Soho No.60

60-62 Old Compton St, London W1D 4UG, UK

A Soho fixture since the early '90s that understands a 3am meal doesn't need to act like dinner. The overnight menu is a full late breakfast: Benedicts, a full English, steak and eggs, pancakes and French toast, plus a good run of vegetarian dishes and a vegan avocado burger. Sit down, regroup and keep talking. The late hours are Thursday through Saturday only now, so don't turn up on a Tuesday. Details: 60–62 Old Compton Street. Open until 4:30am Thursday–Saturday, 12:30am Sunday and 10:30pm Monday–Wednesday.

VQ Bloomsbury

VQ Bloomsbury

111A Great Russell St, London WC1B 3NQ, UK

Chelsea's sibling, three minutes from Tottenham Court Road and with very different hours. It stays open all night Thursday, Friday and Saturday, then closes at midnight Sunday through Wednesday. On the right night it's the easy finish to an evening in Soho or the West End: eggs, burgers, pancakes and a table, with full service at 4am. Details: 111A Great Russell Street. Open 24 hours from Thursday 6:30am to Sunday midnight, and 6:30am–midnight Monday–Wednesday. Valid ID required midnight–6am. Night menu prices apply from 11pm, there's a £2.50 cover midnight–6am Friday and Saturday, and alcohol comes with a meal after 11pm.

Rye Lane Bagels

Rye Lane Bagels

100 Rye Ln, London SE15 4RZ, UK

A cupboard-sized counter a minute from Peckham Rye station, and the right answer to what to eat after a night out around here. Salt beef or smoked salmon and cream cheese are the places to start, and the bagels are built to leave with you. Stock is the limit, because it closes when it sells out. Treat it as a good stop if you're nearby, not a cross-city trip at 3:55am. Details: 100 Rye Lane. Open Friday and Saturday until 4am or sellout. Closes 5pm other days.

Jihwaja

Jihwaja

353 Kennington Ln, London SE11 5QY, UK

A strong reason to stay south of the river. Korean fried chicken and crisp kimchi jeon beat the usual burger-or-kebab decision, and the weekend hours stretch to 3am. The six private karaoke rooms are optional, but they're the reason groups stay. You can eat in them, and a room for up to four starts at £45 an hour in the evening. Details: 353A Kennington Lane. Open until 3am Friday–Saturday, 1am Thursday, 11pm Monday–Wednesday and 10:30pm Sunday. Book karaoke ahead; a 10% weekend charge applies.

Café Boheme

Café Boheme

13 Old Compton St, London W1D 5JQ, UK

The pick when you want a table, a French menu and a bit of ceremony. There's live jazz every day, and the short late-night menu keeps things simple: croque monsieur or madame, moules-frites, a cheeseburger, cheese and charcuterie. A croque and a conversation can be enough. It holds tables back for walk-ins each evening. Details: 13 Old Compton Street. Open until 3am Friday–Saturday, 1am Monday–Thursday and midnight Sunday. Card only. No under-18s after 9:30pm.

Voodoo Ray's Dalston

Voodoo Ray's Dalston

95 Kingsland High St, London E8 2PB, UK

Sometimes the right late meal is something you can hold in one hand. Voodoo Ray's sells giant New York-style slices for around £5, and pepperoni is the straightforward order. The Queen Vegan, with artichokes, olives and sunblush tomatoes, gives plant-based eaters a real option. It's strictly a weekend play, since the 2am close only happens Friday and Saturday. Details: 95 Kingsland High Street. Open until 2am Friday–Saturday, 11pm Thursday and 10pm Sunday–Wednesday.

27 Old Compton Street

27 Old Compton Street

27 Old Compton St, London W1D 5JP, UK

A plate of fresh pasta beats whatever's nearest the station. This Soho pasta bar is built on the Italian tavola calda idea of fast, good food, and the full menu stays on until the kitchen closes, so a late table doesn't mean a cut-down list. Go for the bucatini cacio e pepe or squid-ink lobster ravioli. Book upstairs after a show, or walk in downstairs for a booth. Details: 27 Old Compton Street. Food until 1am Thursday–Saturday, midnight Tuesday–Wednesday and 11pm Sunday–Monday.

Speedboat Bar Soho

Speedboat Bar Soho

30 Rupert St, London W1D 6DL, UK

Bangkok's Chinatown by way of Rupert Street, with pool tournaments, towers of Singha and happy hour from 10pm to close. On Friday and Saturday, a short late menu starts at 11pm with crispy pork with chili and garlic, minced beef with holy basil and wide rice noodles with beef. Finish with the pineapple pie and taro ice cream. This is a just-after-midnight meal, not a 3am rescue. Details: 30 Rupert Street. Late menu from 11pm Friday–Saturday, last food orders 12:15am, closes 1am. Other nights the kitchen stops by 10:45pm.
