Mandarin Oriental, Lago di Como is a five-star lakeside resort in Blevio on the eastern shore of Lake Como. Unlike a private villa whose main product is the event rental, this is a 75-key hotel spread across nine buildings, with in-house catering, event planning support, restaurants, a spa, boat access and several wedding settings inside one operating resort. The reception spaces range from the 50-seat Greenhouse to Villa del Lago, which is currently listed for seated dinners of up to 120 guests.

The wedding pricing is more fragmented than the hospitality experience. The Amphitheatre starts at €5,500 plus 22% VAT for a two-hour service; the Greenhouse starts at €12,000 plus VAT; exclusive use of L'ARIA starts at €30,000 plus VAT; and Villa del Lago is quoted individually with a minimum-stay condition. Catering, accommodation, décor and production sit outside those headline space fees unless the final proposal states otherwise.

Guest count changes the venue quite a bit. Around 40 to 50 guests, the Greenhouse provides a fully enclosed dinner room that matches the scale of the wedding. At 60 to 80, L'ARIA is the natural next step. At 100 to 120, Villa del Lago becomes central, and the event starts to depend much more heavily on a tailored quote and a fully worked wet-weather plan.

Mandarin Oriental makes the most sense for couples who want Lake Como to feel easy for guests, not just beautiful for a few hours.

The biggest advantage is infrastructure. A meaningful share of the wedding can stay in the same resort, food and beverage are handled in-house, cars and boats can be arranged through the hotel, and the day can move between ceremony, dinner and guest rooms without building a temporary hospitality operation around a standalone villa. The 75-key inventory is a much deeper accommodation base than most private wedding estates on the lake.

Our preferred scale is roughly 40 to 80 guests. At 50, the Greenhouse is especially useful: it is fully enclosed, seats 50 for dinner, holds 80 in ceremony format and 100 standing, and is designated for civil weddings. For a smaller destination wedding, the backup plan can still feel like a deliberate part of the venue rather than an emergency ballroom.

At 60 to 80 guests, L'ARIA is the more interesting reception option. It is listed for up to 80 seated or standing in the existing setup, with exclusive use from €30,000 plus VAT, and combines a glass-walled dining room with a lake-view terrace. The remaining question is how the 80-person event layout works in bad weather once service space, entertainment and dancing are added.

The 120-person headline capacity is a different proposition. The Amphitheatre can take 120 for the ceremony and Villa del Lago is currently listed for a 120-person seated dinner, but the villa carries a stay requirement and does not come with a published fully covered 120-person banquet plan. At this size, the Villa del Lago commercial terms and wet-weather design are part of the booking decision itself.

There are two other tradeoffs. Reserving an event space does not mean the whole resort is private, and other hotel guests may pass through the Amphitheatre area to reach their rooms. The party also runs on a hotel-style clock: dance music ends at 11 p.m., with soft lounge music only until midnight. Couples who want a sealed-off private estate or a late-night dance party will find other Lake Como venues easier to fit.

For the right wedding, though, the proposition is strong: legally binding civil-ceremony options, serious guest-room inventory, in-house hospitality and reception spaces that scale from an intimate enclosed dinner to a 120-person lakeside event. We would choose it for that hotel infrastructure and the 40- to 80-person experience, not simply for the largest capacity number on the page.

Published 2027 event-space fees

For 2027, the Amphitheatre, Greenhouse and L'ARIA have published starting fees, while Villa del Lago is quote-only. Offers are tailored to the final guest count and period of interest, so the figures below are starting points rather than a flat seasonal tariff.

What a representative venue line looks like

For 50 guests, an Amphitheatre ceremony followed by dinner in the Greenhouse starts at €17,500 before VAT, or €21,350 with the published 22% VAT added. This is an illustration of two separately priced spaces, not a compulsory package.

For 80 guests, an Amphitheatre ceremony followed by exclusive use of L'ARIA starts at €35,500 before VAT, or €43,310 including the published 22% VAT. Food and beverage still sit on top.

At 120 guests, only part of the venue line can be calculated. The Amphitheatre starts at €6,710 including published VAT, while Villa del Lago requires a separate event quote and a stay. The 120-person economics therefore need their own proposal rather than a per-person extrapolation from the smaller setups.

What is included, and what sits on top

The public pricing is space-led rather than package-led. The rates establish the cost of the named event area, while catering, décor and production are handled separately unless the proposal bundles them. For the Amphitheatre, the final quote should also spell out what the published two-hour service includes.

Catering is in-house and customizable, with plated dinner, standing cocktails, Italian-style aperitivo and brunch among the published formats. There are no public wedding menu prices, beverage packages or minimum spends, so food and drink need their own commercial line in the proposal.

Flowers and decorations are expressly outside the rental fee. Staff meals, transportation, hair and make-up, a bridal-party breakfast and fireworks can also be quoted separately. For a realistic total, planning, photography and video, entertainment, rentals, lighting, sound, stationery and any weather infrastructure should remain separate budget lines unless the contract explicitly includes them.

The 50- and 80-person ranges include the wedding-day event-space fees with their published VAT, wedding food and drink, planning, flowers, photo and video, production, music, local transport, a ceremony/beauty/stationery allowance, two lighter hosted meals and a 10% contingency on the non-venue allowances. They exclude guest hotel rooms, flights and personal wedding spending.

They also exclude any separate private-room rental for the welcome event or farewell meal, Villa del Lago accommodation, a full-resort buyout, a marquee, fireworks and any tax or service charge that an actual supplier quote adds on top of the working gross allowance.

The wedding food-and-drink allowance is €360-€600 per guest for the principal wedding service and bar. The welcome-and-farewell allowance is €120-€220 per guest across both gatherings combined, before any private-room hire.

For 50 guests, the same calculation starts with €21,350 of published venue-space fees including VAT and produces a calculated total of €98,900-€169,850, published here as approximately €100,000-€170,000. The full arithmetic is in the handoff.

The fixed event-space floor matters. A 50-person wedding still starts with €21,350 in the illustrative ceremony-and-dinner venue line before food is served. At 80, that line rises to €43,310 because L'ARIA replaces the Greenhouse. Guest count changes the economic structure, not just the catering quantity.

Mandarin Oriental does not have one useful wedding-capacity number. Each space has a different ceremony, cocktail or dinner limit, and the relevant number depends on how the day moves from one setting to another.

How we would use the property by guest count

For 30-50 guests, the simplest flow is an Amphitheatre ceremony, aperitivo, then dinner in the Greenhouse. A documented 30-person wedding has used that sequence, and the Greenhouse also keeps the wet-weather plan comparatively compact.

For 60-80 guests, the Amphitheatre followed by L'ARIA is the natural published step up. L'ARIA was redesigned for the 2026 season, so the current 80-person setup should be planned from the new floor plan rather than older event imagery.

For 81-120 guests, Villa del Lago becomes central if the reception needs the published 120-person seated capacity. That changes both the commercial structure and the weather plan because the event fee is quote-only and a stay applies.

The weather plan is most straightforward at 50 guests and becomes progressively more dependent on the chosen layout as the wedding grows.

For the ceremony, the Greenhouse is for 80 and the Amphitheatre for 120 outdoors. Above 80, there is no comparably clear enclosed civil-ceremony backup available. The hotel has function rooms, but the current table does not establish them as wedding ceremony rooms at that scale.

For cocktails, the Greenhouse holds 100 standing and Bellagio plus Comacina is published for 120 standing. Those rooms can help absorb a wet-weather running order, but standing capacity is not the same thing as a seated dinner solution.

For dancing, the room plan matters because time is limited. A 50-seat Greenhouse dinner or an 80-seat L'ARIA setup may need tables, a bar, band or DJ equipment and service stations in the same footprint, while dance music ends at 11 p.m. The smoother plan is one that does not spend a large part of that window on a major room reset.

Our read: 50 guests has the strongest confirmed fully enclosed dinner fallback. At 60-80, the plan can be equally convincing if L'ARIA's full guest count fits indoors. At 100-120, a scaled covered layout should be part of the proposal before the venue is treated as weather-secure at that size.

Staying at the resort

The resort offers 75 guestrooms, suites and private villas across nine buildings. That is a major practical advantage for a destination wedding, but the key count is not the same thing as a published sleeping capacity. 

For a 50- to 80-person wedding, the first accommodation scenario to price is keeping most of the group at the resort. If enough inventory is available on sensible group terms, that can remove a large amount of shuttle complexity. At 120 guests, the 75 keys may still house much of the wedding, but the actual room allocation and occupancy mix need to come from the group contract.

Villa del Lago is the accommodation to price earliest when it is also the reception venue. It has three bedrooms, a private dock and a minimum-stay condition, so the event and lodging economics are linked.

For preparations, the Penthouse Suite, Villa della Rocca and Panoramic Terrace Suite with Private Pool are also natural candidates and are priced on request. A bridal-party breakfast can be arranged, with timing and guest-count limits depending on the reserved suite.

Where overflow guests should stay

If the resort block does not cover the full guest list, we would concentrate overflow guests in Como rather than scatter them around both arms of the lake. Como gives guests restaurants, rail access and a straightforward road transfer to Blevio. The hotel places central Como at about a 10-minute drive, although group loading and event traffic can lengthen that.

• Hilton Lake Como: 170 guest rooms and established group-room infrastructure. Useful if you need one large block rather than several small hotels
• Sheraton Lake Como Hotel: 135 rooms and suites near Cernobbio. Another large-block option with resort facilities, though guests stay on the opposite side of Como from Blevio

Room counts do not establish wedding-date availability. The most efficient overflow plan is one or two concentrated blocks with pre-arranged transport.

Catering and bar

Wedding food is handled in-house. The culinary team offers customized plated dinners, standing cocktails, Italian-style aperitivo, brunch and other formats. The commercial structure is proposal-based: there is no current public wedding menu price, beverage package, minimum spend, corkage rule or late-night food tariff. At this level, the food-and-beverage line can rival the room hire, so it should be priced at the same time as the event spaces.

Wedding catering is led by Chef Massimiliano Blasone, who also directs L'ARIA. If L'ARIA is the reception venue, the proposal should make clear what the €30,000 exclusive-use fee covers and whether a separate food-and-beverage minimum applies.

Outside vendors

This is a managed hotel-vendor environment rather than an open-vendor villa. Every supplier requires hotel approval, and the property also works with Mandarin Oriental certified suppliers. Outside hair and make-up providers may be involved when names and access times are supplied in advance, while public-area photo and video requires prior notice to the Events Team.

That structure is workable, but it should shape the order in which suppliers are booked. The useful distinction is which categories are mandatory through the hotel, which are preferred, and which are freely chosen subject to approval.

Décor, effects and production

Flowers and decorations are extra, and their design plus setup and dismantling times need hotel approval. Real flames are forbidden under the current property policy. Fireworks are allowed when arranged in advance through the approved process, and staff meals are available at additional cost.

For larger productions, the final event plan also needs to cover power, sound, load-in, vehicle staging and breakdown. Those details become more important if an 80- to 120-person weather plan introduces additional temporary infrastructure.

Music: plan around 11 p.m.

The music policy is unusually clear: dance music is permitted until 11 p.m. From 11 p.m. to midnight, only soft lounge music is allowed, and SIAE rights apply. No music permission after midnight is published.

For a couple who wants a long dinner, speeches, cake and a real dance floor, the evening needs to be designed backward from 11 p.m. An earlier dinner or tighter formalities can buy meaningful dance time. If late-night dancing is central to the wedding, this cutoff is a genuine venue tradeoff rather than a small scheduling detail.

Legally binding civil ceremony

Yes. The Amphitheatre is licensed for civil wedding ceremonies and holds up to 120 in ceremony format. The Greenhouse is also designated for civil ceremonies, with a current ceremony capacity of 80.

The venue authorization solves the location question, not the couple-specific paperwork. The Comune di Blevio's demographic office handles local civil-status and marriage records. International couples should obtain the current document list, registrar availability, municipal fees, translation or interpreter requirements and filing timeline for their nationalities.

Symbolic ceremony

The Amphitheatre is expressly offered for symbolic ceremonies as well as civil weddings. Other spaces may be possible through a tailored proposal, but the current material does not publish ceremony capacities for every lawn, dock or terrace.

Religious ceremony

No on-site chapel or dedicated religious ceremony venue is available. Couples planning a religious wedding should treat the ceremony as a separate arrangement unless the hotel and the relevant religious authority approve an on-site format.

The resort map shows how dispersed the property is: L'ARIA, the Greenhouse, the dock, main reception, meeting rooms, multiple accommodation buildings and Villa del Lago sit in different parts of the botanical park. For a multi-space wedding, guest movement is part of the event design, especially in rain.

Blevio is one of the easier Lake Como locations for guests arriving through Milan. The resort sits just outside Como on the eastern shore rather than deep in the central lake.

Road times are planning guides rather than guarantees. Lake traffic, Milan traffic, baggage collection and group loading can move them materially.

Arriving by boat

Boat transport is a practical part of the venue. The hotel can arrange boats on request, and Villa del Lago has its own private dock, so a private arrival or short lake transfer can be built into the weekend.

Public Navigazione Laghi schedules are seasonal and serve the lake's public stops. A public ferry should not be treated as a substitute for a contracted private boat to the hotel or villa dock, and any water transfer benefits from a road alternative in bad weather.

Do guests need a car?

Guests staying at Mandarin Oriental generally should not need one if airport or station transfers are organized. Guests based in central Como can also use scheduled wedding shuttles. The more complicated setup is scattering guests across Cernobbio, central-lake towns and Blevio, which creates multiple road and boat movements.

For a large shuttle program, vehicle size, loading, turning and waiting arrangements should be part of the transport plan before contracts are finalized.

Our first choices would be June and early September, with May a strong option for a smaller wedding that is genuinely comfortable using the Greenhouse as the dinner backup. Lake Como stays green because it receives meaningful rainfall through the warm season, so summer should not be treated as a dry-weather guarantee.

These Como-area 1991-2020 figures are regional climate normals, not a forecast for the resort or a promise about a particular wedding week.

May: comfortable daytime temperatures and spring gardens, with meaningful rain risk. It suits a smaller wedding particularly well because the Greenhouse can be the planned dinner room rather than an emergency move.

June: our strongest all-around pick. Warm, long evenings suit the Amphitheatre and lakefront spaces without the peak midsummer heat, while a proper weather plan is still necessary.

July and August: best if warm-weather lake time is part of the weekend, but afternoons can be hot. A later ceremony, shade, water and cooling make a material difference to guest comfort, and leisure demand around the lake is intense.

Early September: an excellent balance of warm days and more comfortable evenings. It is still a major wedding period, so room blocks and transport should be secured early.

October: cooler and more weather-dependent. There is no published high-, low- or shoulder-season wedding tariff, so the actual event proposal matters more than assumptions about shoulder-season savings.

A resort wedding works best when the hotel is the guest hub rather than one stop among several Lake Como venues. One efficient version is arrivals and a relaxed on-property welcome gathering, the wedding the next day, then brunch, spa time or a private boat outing before departure. Private spaces and hosted meals still need their own quote.

The advantage is operational: restaurants, wellness, lake access, guest rooms and transportation support already sit in one place. For 50 to 80 guests, that can be more valuable than moving everyone between a villa, a separate hotel, a welcome restaurant and an outside boat dock.

Lake Como makes it easy to over-program a destination weekend. If the wedding day already moves through several settings, one well-run boat afternoon is usually more enjoyable than turning the itinerary into a series of transfers.

Villa d'Este: stronger indoor banquet scale within another luxury hotel

Villa d'Este in Cernobbio is the clearest comparison when you want a classic Lake Como hotel but need larger published indoor banquet infrastructure. Its Impero Room publishes a 210-person banquet capacity, while other event rooms cover smaller formats. Mandarin Oriental is more compelling for the Blevio resort layout and the intimate Greenhouse / L'ARIA progression; Villa d'Este is the comparison when a large indoor reception is non-negotiable.

Villa Erba: much larger event capacity, but not a hotel wedding hub

Villa Erba in Cernobbio solves a different problem. Its historic villa can accommodate up to 450 seated across the ground floor, making it far stronger for a large production-heavy celebration. The tradeoff is hospitality structure: guest accommodation needs to be built around nearby hotels rather than sitting inside the same resort operation.

Grand Hotel Victoria: another resort-led wedding, farther up the lake

Grand Hotel Victoria in Menaggio is worth comparing when you like the idea of a hotel wedding but prefer the central-lake / western-shore setting. Its official wedding offering supports ceremonies, indoor banquet rooms and guest accommodation within the resort. The tradeoff is location: it is farther from Milan and Como, so airport transfers and guest movements work differently from Blevio.

These alternatives solve different Mandarin Oriental questions. Villa d'Este gives you more published indoor banquet scale, Villa Erba gives you much more event capacity, and Grand Hotel Victoria keeps the resort model but moves the weekend deeper into the lake.
