Buying a Christmas tree in Chicago can mean a quick walk to the corner lot, a day at a farm with a saw, or paying someone else to deal with the stairs. This guide covers where to buy one: city and suburban lots and garden centers, tree farms near Chicago and delivery services.

Ivy's opens first, on November 16, and most lots follow around Thanksgiving. Where a seller hasn't posted 2026 dates yet, the table says so.

Best Christmas Tree Lots and Garden Centers in Chicago and the Suburbs

Start with whichever of these is closest. Trees get heavy fast, and a 7-foot Fraser can weigh about 50 pounds, so the best lot is often the one nearest your front door. If the tree run turns into a day out, pair it with one of the Chicago Christmas markets. The last three here are in the suburbs, closer than a farm and easier to park at than most city lots.

Gethsemane Garden Center

Gethsemane Garden Center

5739 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60660, USA

Gethsemane started as a family Christmas tree lot in the 1970s and now calls itself the largest garden center in Chicago, so trees are still a big deal here. They come from family farms in North Carolina and Michigan, and hand-decorated wreaths, garland and winter containers are on hand for the rest of the house. It's our all-around city pick. Details: 5739 N Clark St, Andersonville. Trees arrive in November. Delivery to Chicagoland ZIP codes; call 773-769-8217.

Ivy's Christmas Trees

Ivy's Christmas Trees

1013 W Roscoe St, Chicago, IL 60657, USA

Ivy's sells only North Carolina Fraser firs, from tabletop size up to 12 feet, and has been a Lakeview tradition for more than 35 years. Staff tie the tree to your car for free, kids get goodie bags and dogs get treats. It's also the first lot to open here, so it's the easy call if you want your tree up early. Details: 1013 W Roscoe St, Lakeview. Opens Nov 16. Mon-Fri 12-7, Sat 10-7, Sun 10-6, Thanksgiving 10-4, Black Friday 10-8. Online ordering is open, with delivery by zone on set days.

Chicago's Christmas Trees

Chicago's Christmas Trees

2429 W Fullerton Ave, Chicago, IL 60647, USA

Chicago's Christmas Trees has been at this since 1947 and runs the closest thing the city has to a tree-lot network: six lots across the North and West sides, plus Niles. Fullerton is the main lot, and the rest sit on school playgrounds and patios. Expect Fraser and balsam firs and white pines from northern Wisconsin. Pick the closest lot, but go by its own directions, since a playground doesn't park like Fullerton. Details: Usually open Thanksgiving to about Dec 22, 10-8 daily. Logan Square: 2429 W Fullerton Ave. Lincoln Square: Daily Bar & Grill patio, 4560 N Lincoln Ave. Lakeview East: Nettelhorst School, 3252 N Broadway (park on Melrose; the school lot is loading only, outside school hours). Roscoe Village: Jahn School, 3149 N Wolcott Ave. West Town: 415 N Ashland Ave. Near North Side: iO Theater patio, 1501 N Kingsbury St. Niles: 8901 N Milwaukee Ave, next to Binny's.

Farmers Market Garden Center

Farmers Market Garden Center

4110 N Elston Ave, Chicago, IL 60618, USA

Farmers Market keeps it simple: all Fraser firs from small North Carolina family farms, cut within 48 hours of shipping. Staff re-cut the trunk, bundle the tree and load it or tie it to your car for free, which is about as painless as a pickup gets. It's the first stop for Irving Park and the Northwest Side. Details: 4110 N Elston Ave, Irving Park. 2026 arrival date to come; call 773-539-1200. Delivery on select days by arrangement.

Adams & Son & Daughter Gardens

Adams & Son & Daughter Gardens

1057 N California Ave, Chicago, IL 60622, USA

Adams is better known for hard-to-find houseplants than for trees, and that's the fun of it: you can leave with a Christmas tree and a plant you didn't know you wanted. It's a family-run neighborhood shop, so come for an easy local stop rather than the biggest lot in town. Parking takes some patience. Details: 1057 N California Ave, Humboldt Park. 2026 arrival date, sizes and prices to come; call 773-235-0991.

Tallgrass Garden by Christy Webber

Tallgrass Garden by Christy Webber

2833 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL 60622, USA

Tallgrass is the new name for Christy Webber Farm & Garden, and its winter lot is as much about greenery as the tree. Alongside fresh-cut trees you'll find wreaths, garland, swags and loose greens, so it's the pick if you like building your own porch pots or window boxes. Details: 2833 W Chicago Ave, Humboldt Park. 2026 arrival date to come; call 312-829-8200.

Sprout Home

Sprout Home

745 N Damen Ave, Chicago, IL 60622, USA

Sprout is the design-minded tree stop. You choose a hand-selected Fraser fir in person at the garden shop, which suits anyone after a particular shape for a particular room. It's also easy to turn the trip into plant shopping. Details: 745 N Damen Ave, Ukrainian Village (the garden shop, not the floral shop across the street). 2026 arrival date to come; ask about delivery when you buy.

Superior Evergreens

Superior Evergreens

7950 W Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL 60634, USA

Superior is the lot to know if you've got high ceilings. It's been selling Upper Michigan trees for more than 40 years, in sizes from 2 feet right up to 20, and it can deliver what you pick. It's also a good reason for the Far Northwest Side to skip the drive east to the busier North Side lots. Details: 7950 W Belmont Ave, Dunning. Usually open daily from Thanksgiving Day through Christmas Eve, 9-8. Call 906-295-0821.

Meinke Garden Center

Meinke Garden Center

5803 W Touhy Ave, Niles, IL 60714, USA

Meinke is a practical stop for Niles and the Northwest Side, with trees, poinsettias and fresh greens for winter planters under one roof. It's the choice if you want room to browse without committing to a farm trip, especially if you're already on Touhy. Details: 5803 W Touhy Ave, Niles. 2026 arrival date and sizes to come; call 847-647-9455.

Chalet Home + Garden

Chalet Home + Garden

3132 Lake Ave, Wilmette, IL 60091, USA

Chalet has the widest range of firs in this guide. Fraser, balsam and Canaan sit alongside concolor, noble and Nordmann, which has a milder scent if strong pine bothers you. You can book a 15-minute shopping consultation, and the holiday decorations make it an easy North Shore stop. Details: 3132 Lake Ave, Wilmette. Delivery, setup and removal are available. 2026 tree arrival date to come.

Sandhill Christmas Trees

Sandhill Christmas Trees

1117 Chicago Ave, Oak Park, IL 60302, USA

Sandhill is a Wisconsin grower that brings its trees to its own Oak Park lot, along with wreaths, garland and stands. It's the familiar outdoor-lot routine, without the drive into farm country, for Oak Park and the West Side. Details: 1117 Chicago Ave, Oak Park, a block east of Harlem. 2026 opening date to come; call 708-202-9388.

Christmas Tree Farms Near Chicago

These run from closest to farthest, with drive times from downtown. Abbey, Richardson, Ben's and Conifera let you cut your own, and Puckerville and Anderson are for pre-cut trees. Daylight goes fast in December, so aim to get there well before dusk, and wear boots.

Puckerville Farms

Puckerville Farms

13332 S Bell Rd, Lemont, IL 60439, USA

Puckerville gives you the farm stop without the saw: pre-cut Fraser firs, wreaths, garland and decorations on a family farm in Lemont. It works well if the kids like the idea of a farm but nobody wants to cut anything down. Details: 13332 S Bell Rd, Lemont, about 45 minutes away. Usually open late November to Dec 23, 10-7, until the trees sell out. Call 708-508-0906.

Abbey Farms

Abbey Farms

2855 Hart Rd, Aurora, IL 60502, USA

Abbey is our pick for a first farm trip. It's a nonprofit farm owned by the Benedictine monks of Marmion Abbey, dating back to 1949, and you can head into the fields or choose a pre-cut fir up to 13 feet if the kids run out of patience. The Emporium sells gifts and greenery, Wednesday through Sunday, 10-5. Details: 2855 Hart Rd, Aurora, about 50 minutes away. Nov 21-Dec 23, 10-7, closed Thanksgiving. Free reservations are required on designated dates, one per car, with a 30-minute arrival window. Last vehicle into the fields is 5 p.m. Bow saws take a $10 refundable deposit, and cards are accepted. 2026 tree prices to come. Leashed dogs are welcome, except on hay rides.

Anderson Tree Farm

Anderson Tree Farm

508 W Route 126, Plainfield, IL 60544, USA

Anderson is a southwest-suburban stop for a pre-cut tree, with shaking and wrapping, free hot chocolate and popcorn, and farm animals to visit. It also sells living, balled-and-burlapped evergreens, which are a different purchase with their own care and planting needs. Call first if you're hoping to cut your own. Details: 508 W Route 126, Plainfield, about an hour away. 2026 dates and prices to come; call 815-436-2140.

Richardson Christmas Tree Farm

Richardson Christmas Tree Farm

9407 Richardson Rd, Spring Grove, IL 60081, USA

Richardson is the big day out, and it has the simplest pricing around: $98 for any tree you cut, whatever the height. Pre-cut trees wait in a lit area if the fields don't have your size, and the barns have wreaths, garland, donuts, fudge and gifts. Come early, because it gets harder to see the trees once the sun's down. Details: 9407 Richardson Rd, Spring Grove (not the Adventure Farm address on English Prairie Rd), about 1 hour 30 minutes away. Nov 27-Dec 20, 9-6. Cut your own is $98 plus tax, and pre-cut runs $98-$350 plus tax. Cash, checks and cards are accepted. Leashed dogs are welcome.

Ben's Christmas Tree Farm

7719 Ryan Rd, Harvard, IL 60033, USA

Ben's is our pick for proper cut-your-own, and the only Certified Naturally Grown Christmas tree farm in the Midwest. Its trees, including more than 10,000 Fraser firs, are grown without herbicides or pesticides. Saws, twine and wagon rides into the fields are free, and staff bring your tree back, shake it and bale it. Santa and horse-drawn wagons are typically there from 10 to 3. Details: 7719 Ryan Rd, Harvard, about 1 hour 45 minutes away. Opens Nov 27; open days are on the farm's calendar. Firs and spruces are $15 per foot and pines $8, with a 6.5-foot minimum ($98 and $52). Cash and checks are accepted, and cards carry a small fee.

Conifera Tree Farm

Conifera Tree Farm

5810 Schultz Rd, Harvard, IL 60033, USA

Conifera is a small, 20-acre farm and one of the few that opens before Thanksgiving. You can cut a tagged tree in the 5-9 foot range or choose a pre-cut Fraser or balsam fir from 6 to 14 feet, grown on its Wisconsin partner farms. Shaking and baling are free, and the wreath shop is worth a look. Details: 5810 Schultz Rd, Harvard, about 1 hour 45 minutes away. Open Nov 21-22, Nov 27-29, Dec 5-6 and Dec 12-13, 9-4, plus Dec 19-20 if supply lasts. Pre-cut firs are $12-$17 per foot. Call 630-779-6249.

Christmas Tree Delivery in Chicago

No car, a walk-up or a tree too big to carry? Delivery usually beats borrowing a car and buying straps. Get the stand sorted before the tree arrives, and tell the service about stairs and any building rules when you book. Gethsemane, Ivy's, Superior, Farmers Market and Chalet deliver too, if you'd rather choose from a lot.

City Tree Delivery. City Tree has been delivering Chicago trees since 2009, and it's our pick if you don't have a car. Choose a Fraser or balsam fir and a date online, and delivery's free with the tree. Frasers start around $130 for 4-5 feet, and a popular 7-8 foot tree runs about $220-$240. A stand isn't included, but you can buy or rent one. Setup is $34.95, and removal starts at $44.95 if you book before Christmas.

Details: Chicago and 20-plus suburbs, including the South Side. Deliveries run Nov 21-Dec 19, with none on Thanksgiving or the day before. Removals run Dec 27-Jan 9. Call or text 312-GRN-XMAS.

TreeSanta. TreeSanta is the one to price against City Tree. It delivers Fraser firs with the delivery built into the tree price, can set the tree up if you ask, and also sells stands, lights, tree skirts and ornaments. It handles removal and recycling too. Compare the same height with the same services, then go with whoever has your date.

Details: Chicago-area delivery zones are mapped on its site, with 2026 slots to come. It's based at 4042 S Michigan Ave, but that isn't a walk-in lot, so pickup needs arranging. Call 312-371-5500.

On the South Side, delivery is the simplest route for now: City Tree covers the area and TreeSanta is based in Bronzeville. Beverly's Christmas Trees at the Castle sale is the neighborhood option to watch, and 2026 dates haven't been posted yet.

Official pages: City Tree Delivery, TreeSanta, Christmas Trees at the Castle.

Before You Buy a Christmas Tree in Chicago

The height, the species and how much help you want set the price, so compare like with like. These are posted 2026 examples for a tree around 7 feet.

OptionTreePrice
Conifera7-foot pre-cut fir$84-$119
RichardsonCut your own, any height$98 plus tax
Ben's7-foot fir you cut$105
City Tree Delivery7-8 foot Fraser, delivered$220-$240, plus setup and removal if you want them

Measure first. Leave room for the stand and topper, measure the width of the spot, and check the narrowest door or stairwell on the way in. A broad 7-foot tree can be harder to fit than a slim 8-footer.

Keep it in water. Get a fresh cut, put the tree in water as soon as you're home, and check the level daily. Plain water is all it needs. Keep it away from radiators and vents, and take it down once it dries out.

Plan for January. Book removal before Christmas if you're using a service, since it usually costs more after. Check whether the price covers carrying the tree out or just getting it to the curb.

Once the tree's up, our guides to Chicago Christmas lights, Christmas bars and festive restaurants have the rest of your December covered.
