The best graduation meal isn't always the fanciest one. It's the one your new Marine actually wants, at a table where everyone can sit together, order something good and finally catch up.
For some families that means pizza and an easy afternoon. For others it's seafood on the harbor, a private room for the extended family or the steak dinner everyone's been talking about for weeks. Every pick here makes sense for a graduation visit to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.
The geography works in your favor. MCRD sits right beside Liberty Station and San Diego International Airport, Harbor Island and Point Loma are just across the way, and Old Town and Little Italy are a short drive further. Plan on a car or rideshare for everything except Bay View.

Family Day vs. Graduation Day: Plan Before You Book
Family Day (usually Thursday). Your Marine gets liberty from 10:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., but it's on-base only, so an off-base lunch that day won't work. Bay View's buffet, below, is the sit-down option. Once liberty ends, the evening is yours, which makes Thursday a good night for the dressier dinner the adults want.
Graduation day (usually Friday). The ceremony runs from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and a 12:30 or 1 p.m. lunch booking leaves time for photos and goodbyes. Give the restaurant your full headcount, kids included, and book a private room or group menu for a big family rather than counting on a walk-in.
Check your date and bring ID. A few graduations fall on other days, such as the Tuesday, November 24, 2026 graduation over Thanksgiving, so confirm yours on the depot's public event schedule. Adults 18 and over need a REAL ID or another approved ID, such as a passport, to get on base.

Bay View Restaurant
Neville Rd, San Diego, CA 92140, USA
The Liberty Lunch buffet on the depot, with hot entrées, salads and dessert. Drill instructors are invited too, so it's a good chance to say thanks. Details: Family Day, 10:45 a.m.–2 p.m. $22.95 ages 12+, $16.95 ages 5–11, under 5 free, gratuity included. Reserve for 10 or more.
Restaurants Near the Depot: Liberty Station and Point Loma
The closest, easiest lunches after the ceremony: Liberty Station's restaurants and lawns sit right next to MCRD, and Point Loma's pubs and fish counters are just west. Most are casual, and several are walk-in, so they suit families who are flexible on timing.

Officine Buona Forchetta
2865 Sims Rd, San Diego, CA 92106, USA
Neapolitan pizza, pasta, patios and a kids' play area make this the easy call when the table spans three generations. Details: Call ahead for parties over 15.

Solare Ristorante
2820 Roosevelt Rd, San Diego, CA 92106, USA
The dressier Italian option, with fresh pasta and a deep wine list. Best for a smaller, adult-heavy family; ask about private dining for bigger groups. Details: Lunch until 3 p.m.; dinner from 4:30 p.m.

Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens
2816 Historic Decatur Rd Unit 116, San Diego, CA 92106, USA
Set in the old training center's Navy mess hall, with sprawling gardens that give a big family room to spread out. It's all ages, with a full menu beyond the beer. Details: Use the group request form for larger parties.

Corvette Diner
2965 Historic Decatur Rd, San Diego, CA 92106, USA
Burgers, shakes and an arcade keep younger siblings happy. It's loud and festive, not the spot for a long heart-to-heart. Details: Walk-in only; party packages are booked separately.

Liberty Public Market
2820 Historic Decatur Rd, San Diego, CA 92106, USA
A food hall where everyone picks their own vendor and the adults can grab a drink. Treat it as a flexible stop, not a place to seat a big group together. Details: Vendor hours vary.

Dirty Birds
2970 Truxtun Rd #9, San Diego, CA 92106, USA
Wings, TVs and a patio for the Marine who wants a game on, not a toast. Go during the day if younger family members are coming. Details: Bills carry a 4% surcharge on top of the tip.

Mitch's Seafood
1403 Scott St, San Diego, CA 92106, USA
Fish tacos and local seafood on the working waterfront, about as casual as it gets. Great for a small, flexible family. Details: No reservations, and a takeout order doesn't hold you a seat.

Harbor Town Pub
1125 Rosecrans St, San Diego, CA 92106, USA
A relaxed neighborhood pub for burgers, wings and unwinding. Check the age policy if you're staying into the evening. Details: Use the party inquiry for groups.

Phil's BBQ, Point Loma
3750 Sports Arena Blvd, San Diego, CA 92110, USA
Sometimes ribs are exactly what the new Marine has been craving for 13 weeks. Come for the food, not a private room. Details: Regular seating may not fit a big group together.
